Qualifications: Certified by ACE, AFAA, and the American Aerobic Association International/International Sports Medicine Association (AAAI/ISMA). Has 25 years in the martial arts and boxing and 14 years in the fitness industry. Holds black belts in karate, tae kwon do, and kung fu.
Personal History: My interests developed from three of my childhood interests. First, my father was a Golden Gloves champion. When I went to the gym as a young girl to watch him train, I dreamed of becoming a boxer myself. Second, Kelly from 'Charlie's Angels' was a karate expert (which was my first style and black belt). Third, Bruce Lee was always my childhood hero.
Workout Philosophy: To integrate the best teachings of the martial arts with innovative exercise, providing all people with a balanced and safe form of cross-training.
Sucess Story: Mary, from Chicago, is a woman who has faced several health challenges. As a young woman, she was kicked in the face by a horse and lost one of her eyes. She came to me with a desire to learn how to box. Other than learning how to punch, she really wanted to develop the skill to hit the speedbag for an endless amount of time. She used to watch me hit the bag and she could see the relaxation it gave it me. However, with only one eye - the other was glass - she had highly-limited depth perception and her coordination level was affected. We met three times a week for two years; she learned the speed bag and hit it with great proficiency (and could hold her own on the heavy bag as well).
