Qualifications: Danced professionally for over 25 years including engagements as principal ballerina for the Zurich Opernhaus Ballet and Le Grand Theatre de Geneve, Switzerland. Trained by world-famous choreographers George Balanchine, Alvin Ailey, and Martha Graham. Has 25 years experience with Pilates and is certified by the ACSM. Has over 15 years experience as a group fitness leader and personal trainer.
Personal History: At the age of 12, my gym teacher asked if I would like to join their ballet troupe. I said yes and that is when I met another dancer from the famous George Balanchine American School of Ballet. I told my mom I wanted to join that school. That was the beginning of my long-term career as a ballerina. After a successful performing career, dancing with the likes of Rudolf Nureyev and Mikhail Baryshnikov, I decided to share my joy of dance with non-dancers. That led to the creation of the Esprit de Danse Training. Because of several injuries that doctors did not know how to cure, I delved into educating myself on exercise science and physical therapy. I was able to cure myself through fitness and decided then to also incorporate exercise science and physical therapy into my videos and dance fitness program. I moved from New York City to California because of love. I am very happily married to Richard Singer and have an adorable dog named Bogart. Richard and I are planning to adopt a little girl from China to add to our happy home.
Workout Philosophy: It's not simply about moving. It's about moving well. My videos can help you "find it, feel it and move it" with proper alignment, breathing, control, and fluidity. In short order, you'll see that you don't have to be a dancer to look like one!
Sucess Story: When I met Lisa Wen, a member of the Pacific Athletic Club where I have the Esprit de Danse Training Center, she had not been able to dance for over 14 years due to painful knee and back injuries. I used to see Lisa around the club; sometimes, she'd watch my classes and I kept suggesting that my program could help her dance again. She didn't think there was hope for her until one day, in the locker room, I gave her a specific exercise to work on. The next week, she came to me and said that my exercise had helped her knee so much in only one week that she'd decided to try my class after all. After three months of private sessions and classes, Lisa was dancing again with no pain and a big smile on her face. I was so impressed that I asked Lisa to be my co-star in three fitness videos I was about to record.
