(legal pooh)

If you have a treadmill, kick up the incline, and speed, as much as you can tolerate. I too have bad knees coming (46 yrs, getting early arthritis...groan), but I found that I can kick up the incline (I've had it to as high as 11) and the speed (walking speed, as high as 3.7), and trust me, you'll sweat some weight off.

I also love Jillian Michaels latest DVDs, as they are total body DVDs, but you can break them up if you need to. Try the {30-day shred}7963^.

Legal-pooh

Re:Frustrated w/inches lost - need weight lost too! Sometimes I even gain weight. This is a rest week for me so I am doing more cardio then back to STS.....

Re:Frustrated w/inches lost - need weight lost too! (Betsi)

Thanks Bumble! I'm not minding THAT much, since I am very happy to be down a pants size already (woooo!!!) it's just a bit annoying to look at the scale and think "what the heck??!" :D

Re:Frustrated w/inches lost - need weight lost too! (Bumble)

Wow Betsi! 1 ½ ” on your waist! That is amazing. The reason we look at the scale– or want to reach a certain weight – is because we want to be the SIZE that goes with that imaginary number. If we’re getting smaller, who cares what happens on the scale?! For myself, I generally find that ½ inch on my waist = about five lbs. If I could get my waist down by 1 ½ ” I certainly wouldn’t mind if the scale didn’t budge! Congratulations!

Re:Frustrated w/inches lost - need weight lost too! (Mrsprincess07)

I am another one that doesn't go by the scale. Inches lost is so much more important bc that is telling you your losing the right stuff; fat.

I lost over 60 inches and 5 jean sizes but only a small little ol' 35 lbs...about double the inches compared to pounds. It's those inches lost that let you fit into smaller clothes...not pounds. I know women that have to lose 20 lbs before dropping a jean size (several inches).

SO is the number on the scale important or fitting into something smaller?

Re:Frustrated w/inches lost - need weight lost too! (Dawn)

Hi LysaDell...like the ladies had said, try not to focus so much on the scale..use a measuring tape to measure your progress. I find that Circuit Training and Interval Training is the best way to lose weight. I love {30 Day Shred}7963^,{10 Day Results}5591^,Cathe {Drill Max}7681^,Jari Love {Ripped 1000}7702^. As we age... we lose muscle so its very important to lift weights. As for the eating part you said that you do well so thats good! I love running! I really enjoy {Treadmill Challengers}7247^,great dvd!

Re:Frustrated w/inches lost - need weight lost too! (Ginny)

Hi everyone....can't say I remember the last time I stepped on a scale. I think it was my GYN visit Dec 08...really and truly. I hate the scale, I think it's not only depressing, it's almost insulting. I go strictly by how my clothes fit, and how I feel.

Re:Frustrated w/inches lost - need weight lost too! (Betsi)

Sorry to say, I have no advice for you (though it sounds like wiser ladies than me had some suggestions) but I just wanted to say that I sure can relate! I've been working out nearly daily for three weeks now and I lost about 4 lbs the first week or so I started exercising, but then abruptly gained 2 lbs back, presumably in muscle. I've been holding more or less steady since then, but over three weeks have lost 1.5 inches off my waist.

Take heart, you may well be gaining muscle and eventually that will bust the plateau and it'll start coming off again. That's what I'm telling myself, too!

Re:Frustrated w/inches lost - need weight lost too! (Charmaine)

Lysa, I agree totally with Flower Child and LRM regarding the inches. Sometimes we get too hung up on the number on the scale. When I lost a lot of weight everybody thought I'd lost waaayyy more than I had because of the inches lost. I had been at that weight and even lower before but had worn a bigger size because I hadn't lost those crucial inches. Basically, inches lost make an awful lot of difference to how you look and how comfortable your clothes fit. I know it is frustrating to have worked so hard then to see 2lb staring back at you but it is still weight lost and I bet because of the inches lost you look as if you've lost an awful lot more:) Please be proud of what you've accomplished so far and try not to put too much pressure on yourself (I know how hard this is) otherwise you risk becoming so stressed out and frustrated that you give up. Remember this is a journey and we're all on it with you so high five yourself and keep going. Definitely try the HIIT and/or some other new workouts as LRM said. Weights will definitely help too, believe it our not!
Good luck:)

Re:Frustrated w/inches lost - need weight lost too! (LRM)

I agree with flower child. Those lost inches = lost FAT. You have probably put on some muscle which is part of why the scale hasn't gottten as low as you want it to. Just keep on going, you're making progress! Try the HIIT, or some other new workouts. Keep your body guessing.

LRM

Re:Frustrated w/inches lost - need weight lost too! (flower child)

Lysa: If you're losing inches, that's awesome. Fat doesn't weigh much, so the inches are very telling as to which direction your body is going.

Never think you're not good enough. Be happy with yourself every day. Just look in the mirror and cay, "I'm a warrior woman, and I'm awesome!"

Re:Frustrated w/inches lost - need weight lost too! (Dulcy)

High intensity can be lower impact[Jari love gives modifications in her dvds ] and you can devise your own- eg do the "football drill" instead of running on/off a step..basically high intensity drills just means move fast- I have a partially torn meniscus in my right knee[thanks Billy Blanks and tae bo!!] so I've had to learn substitutions and what level I can work at for my knee-sometimes seeing a physio to see what is safe for your knees might be a good place to start if you're worried about what you can /can't do-good luck-

Re:Frustrated w/inches lost - need weight lost too!
