Yes, green tea, black tea...its the same tea, only black is more fermented. green is slightly lower in caffeine, and slightly higher in antioxidants. oolong tea is in between green and black. the other "teas" are not tea at all if they are not from the Camellia sinensis plant, so peppermint, chamomile, roobois are herbal "teas". they may also have health benefits but they are not tea. Tea is very good for you, better than coffee (sorry java fans) so drink up! HTHelps!

I agree with this statement.  I love Rooibos but it is classified as an herbal tea.  Still I have read that it has higher antioxidants than green tea.  Since I've been drinking it on a regular basis, I have gotten sick less.  Less colds, etc. I always buy loose teas because I heard that loose tea is better.  I order from Adagio.

Dawn,

The only places that I have found loose tea is in health food stores and they only have a small selection.  I live in a somewhat rural area so loose tea may be more readily available in other areas.

It's not any harder to make loose tea.  There are tea strainers that you can get but I order tea filters.  They basically are little bags that you put your tea in (looks just like a tea bag put it's open at the top) and when it's done steeping you just take it out of the cup and throw it away.  I order them from Adagio and they are $3.95 for 100 filters.  They have them in different sizes.  I buy them in the mug size.

Yes, it definitely tastes better. Teavana has a chart that tells you what temperature the water should be and how long to steep the tea. It varies depending on which tea it is. I don't worry about the temperature too much, since it's difficult to gauge. I just time the steep. I was really surprised at how good these teas are. I'm sure much of it has to do with the tea mixes as well as the quality of the teas. They are not your usual teas.

The first tea I tried that got me hooked is called Rooibos Tropica. The ingredients are listed as Green Rooibos, strawberry and peach pieces, sunflower and blue mallow petals, and lemon and orange peels...yummy.

a couple thoughts.  I drink 3-5 mugs of tea a day.  mostly black with vanilla flavor or just plain.  i could never stomach the green tea - although I have also heard that its better for you...........    maybe i'll try it again and steep it less.

I also buy risi loose tea in little canisters and have an old fashioned tea pot that i put in about 3 tbs loose tea, 3-4 mugs worth of boiling water.  very easy.

Sam103 - sometimes if you steep green tea or white tea too long, it gets bitter.  I've made that mistake plenty of times.   Green tea with mint is really good too especially with a little honey.

BTW Dawn - I'm still looking for that chart I mentioned earlier.  I looked at it a couple of times and now for the love of Mike I can't find it.  But, as soon as I do you'll be the first to know.

I also like to drink vanilla flavored black teas sweetened with agave syrup and a little soymilk.  It's like my dessert, so yummy!
As others have stated green tea can not be steeped for too long or it will taste bitter.  I personally like green tea on ice during the summer.

Thanks for the heads up Jane.  I placed an order thru Adagio on Thursday- ordered an assortment.  Looking forward to trying some ones.  I ordered some green tea, a Rooibos and another- I think maybe something vanilla? ?

So I rec'd my tea's from Adagio and I'm very happy with them all.  I bought Jasmine #12, Rooibos Vanilla, Citron Green and they included a free tea for "Sagiittaruis".  I love them all, they taste and smell wonderful.  I sweetened them up with a little honey but I may not do that anymore- I bet they taste great on their own.

Barb,

I'm glad you like the teas from Adagio.  I drink the Rooibos Vanilla too!  I like Adagio because they ship fast and they offer you points so you can get money off on future orders.  I've never had a problem with them.

Enjoy!

Dawn:  You can probably find loose tea at specialty coffee shops.  Not Starbucks but the smaller privately owned coffee shops.  I am willing to bet you can find them in the Milwaukee area.

Personally, I like my tea completely natural, with no additives.  I like to let it steep for 5 or more minutes to get really strong.

I put honey and lemon on mine. what I do is cut some lemon in small wedges or rounds and simmer it together with the green tea and add honey after I poured it in the cup. Green tea is good in keeping age spots at bay one cup a day is all it takes or so they say.
