Pain from Kettlebell workout?
-
Thursday, October 29, 2009 10:21 AM
This morning I did Kettlebell Way to Perfect Body for the first time ( I have done Lauren Brooks and Gin Miller's kettlebell workouts a few times with no problems, but other than that I am new to Kettlebells.) I didn't feel any pain or discomfort while working out. Then, about three hours later I started feeling a pulling feeling on the right side of my neck going into the shoulder. It's not an awful pain but I am aware of the discomfort now. I have a desk job so nothing strenuous has happened since my workout this morning. Do you think I did something wrong in the workout to cause the pain/discomfort? Thanks in advance!

Hi April! Sounds like you may have pulled a muscle or something. I'd take it easy for a couple days. I doubt you did anything wrong while working out. Maybe just too much too soon, since you say you are fairly new to kettlebells. Be careful with your form! I have Lauren Brooks. How do you like Gin's and Kettlebell Way to Perfect Body? Which one is your favorite? I haven't done much kettlebelling, I just finished CLX, so may start it up again soon! Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks Lilac! I think I will rest this weekend and then start back with some lower body stuff next week. It is still a little tight today but better than yesterday. My favorite is Lauren Brooks. I only used Kettlebell Way to Perfect Body once but I think I will alternate that with Lauren Brooks pretty often. They are set up pretty similar where you have the one minute rests in between. Gin's is OK but I will probably use that one the least.

April, It's possible that you did pull something. How does it feel today? Sometimes I will do isometric kettlebell moves (like the farmers walk) and will get DOMS in my neck/shoulder/trap area. It's not painful it's just there. It doesn't hurt when I'm doing it and it goes away in a hour or two. Check your form and be careful of over the head moves. I always go lighter when I lift overhead.

Hey Jane! Today I feel more of a tightness in that area instead of that pulling feeling I had yesterday. I am going to go through the tutorials again when I use kettlebells next to make sure my form is correct. I probably need to do this a few times to remember all the pointers on good form. Thanks for your advice.

Did you stretch out after the workout. Kettlebell way to your perfect body does not include a stretch. I know Kettlebell Konnection and Ultimate body sculpt and conditioning have cool downs.

megw - I just did a quick stretch at the end. I also did some stretching during the one minute breaks. Do you usually do a full cool down and stretch at the end? Anyway, it is feeling much better today so I will try and workout tomorrow morning.
