Certified instructor description: Combines Kathy’s friendly personality and precise attention to form in a well-crafted, straight-forward program. The title tells the story — this will definitely shape your lower body. You’ll begin the aerobics with lots of up-and-over moves that burn calories as they work your buttocks. Then it slows down just a little to incorporate squats and lunges to tone your thighs. Finally, special complementary floorwork completes the routine with thigh and more buttocks shaping. 1 to 3 lb. ankle weights are suggested for advanced exercisers. ©1993. Kathy Smith's Great Buns & Thighs Step Workout

I can feel it working
Even though this is a basic routine it is a very good work out. It's good even on those days when you only have 15 or 20 minutes to work out. - posted by Leilani on 1/26/2013
A TEN RATING FOR US LOVE THIS WORK OUT
Me and my mom did this workout together it was fun and it really made my legs strong and firmed up my booty. It targets the area I need worked the most I absolutely love it, its great!! I have a VCR tape and have been looking for it on a DVD I finally found it here. We give this a 10 it is the best. - posted by charlotte on 10/20/2012
ok workout
I laughed a lot because I thought the instructor was off beat most of the time. Its an ok workout and I will do it occasionally but it seems kinda dated and like I said, the instructor has no rhythm. I've only done it once and will try it a few more times at least but its not a high energy, wow workout. - posted by Paige on 9/13/2012
Not too complicated!
This is a great step workout that isn't too complicated. My knees aren't the greatest, but I can still do this workout. I worked out with Kathy Smith when I was pregnant and now my eighteen year old daughter also enjoys this workout. Kathy does a great job explaining moves as always. I am so pleased to be able to find these "oldies but goodies" on DVD at Collage Video. - posted by Robin on 8/13/2012
Timeless is a Good Title--That's a Good Thing
Even though this DVD has some years on it, I thought, since I do too, this was one for me. I love Kathy Smith and this is a great step workout. I was looking for more “just aerobic” type workouts and this one fits great into my rotations. Her cuing, as always, is great and I just love the different moves she has in this one, which spices up an old school type workout. - posted by Elaine on 8/4/2012
Love this workout
It's been a long time since I first did this video (on VHS, no less), but recently, I've been working hard to get back in shape. I loved the video then and I love it now. It's toning and cardio all in one, and it's not hard to follow at all - and the moves are pretty basic. It's just hard to do if you're out of shape. But I feel I'm improving each time I do it. I'm glad this is now a DVD - it's a great workout. - posted by Michele on 6/29/2012
love it
this is a great video, i use it at least 3 times a week. this video was easy to follow, great for aerobics and toning all in one, if your short on time this is a good one. love it - posted by kim on 5/10/2012
Awesome!
This is a fun bun & thigh kicking workout. Try if you dare. - posted by Mary on 5/10/2012
Good Solid Workout
Like many other reviewers, I have owned this video for a number of years. I remember as a newbie how very difficult this workout was for me. I am weaker in my lower body, so my thighs were definitely feeling the love. It's not quite so hard now that I am at more of an advanced level, however I do not like complicated step moves so I still include this workout in my regular rotation. - posted by Suzanne on 2/20/2012
Effective & Fun
I'm glad I added this DVD to my Step library. The music is pulsing and motivating, which is important to keep me going. (I'd love to have the soundtrack!) As for the workout, I definitely felt 'the burn' during and after. Kathy's instructions are precise and animated, the movements easy-to-follow, and the intensity can be increased (if necessary!) by raising the step height or adding propulsion. I was truly energized and tighter afterward-this workout is a keeper. :D - posted by Karen on 7/12/2011

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Chapter menus
X
You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
Narrow screen
X
When played on a widescreen TV, this program will show black bars on the left and right sides. On an older 4x3 ratio TV, it will fill the entire screen.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Step aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The step aerobics segments involve stepping up and down on a platform. The moves range from simple stepping to more choreographed exercises. These segments require a step bench platform. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
