Certified instructor description:
Developed in Europe, fitness ball workouts are now in the hottest U.S. clubs. The ball’s soft, flexible surface provides a full range of motion and optimum body position for many toning moves (most that would be impossible on a mat or even a weight bench). You’ll enjoy Kathy’s warm personality and low-key cuing . It’s taught at two levels: she teaches at a begin/inter level, her partner at inter/advan. The routines include crunches, curls, leg raises, thigh squeezes and more. Quiet music and nice stretches. ©1996. (33 min.). DVD has: Spanish subtitle option, Narrow screen.

Easy to follow beginner workout
This is a solid beginner workout, or a tape for someone who has never used a balance ball and just wants to get a 'feel' for it. Short, easy to follow, nothing fancy or exciting. I do it as a add-on workout after doing a tougher tape. Note one thing: Some of the exercises need to be done against a wall. People who live in smaller spaces (like me) who do not have an empty wall will not be able to perform the last 5 minutes of the tape...and the whole workout is only 30 minutes. - posted by Cheryl on 10/31/2006
Beginner Tape
After completing the ball exercise on her Lift weights to lose weight 2 video (which I really liked), I decied to buy the shaper ball workout. I completed this workout a couple of days ago and found that this is a great instructional video for a bigginer on the ball. She took her time and explained every exercise. Sometimes I felt she did more talking than exercising, which made it seem slow. I would recomend this to someone who has never worked on a ball before. Don't get me wrong you feel the exercise and the stretch but it is too slow paced for me. You don't work up a sweat. It would make a good cool down after a good cardio. I wish I would have read the reviews before I bought this tape. - posted by Jennifer on 1/12/2005
Super Boring
This video is REALLY BAD!!! They do not follow the music, they do not keep up with how many repetitions they do, the set stinks (I could have done the video at my own house too!) and what's worse is that the moves are NOT challenging at all. - posted by Gaby Ochoa on 8/2/2004
A Good Beginner Workout
I just did this video for the first time yesterday. No one will mistake this for a heavy workout; it's definitely for after a cardio session. I had all but given up on the ball after trying videos that were too difficult or fast paced (i.e. Karen Voight). Now I know I will go back to the ball again with this video. - posted by Cathy on 6/30/2004
Hey, I like this one!
I like this tape. It's better than the tape that came with my ball, and better than another tape I have (which is so poor I don't remember it!). I like the EFFECT: I can definitely feel every muscle responding, and I even feel like I stand and sit taller since I started. I am recovering from a long illness, and I like the way I can adapt things so that I'm working at my own level. - posted by Pati on 1/22/2004
I Liked It
I am an advanced exerciser, but not very experienced with ball workouts. I like this video because I could actually do the exercises, unlike some other ball workouts (like Charlene Prickett's "Women With Balls") that were nearly impossible for someone new to this type of workout. I'm sure that I will outgrow it, but for a beginning ball workout, this is a good video. - posted by Jennifer on 12/31/2003
A "relaxation" tape.
I recently purchased this video because I like variety and I only have a few programs for my stability ball. This tape was disappointing as far as getting a "good workout" but it can be effective when used after a strenuous workout session with weights. It stretches the spine, and acts generally as a great total body stretch for me. I agree it is not exciting, but since I have it in my "library" I will find the most effective use for it, even it it's only to improve my balance. It has been a challenge to find good workouts for the stability ball. I need to make the most effecient use of my time. - posted by Carol on 12/27/2003
not so bad!
i haven't ever used another ball workout video...but ive been working out on my own with the ball for a while now. i did however like this video...its better than not having any help at all. it taught me some new exersizes and i think its great for begginers. - posted by shannon on 9/11/2003
BORRINGGGGG!
I have every kathy tape, so you know I really like her...BUT, this is the WORST tape in my entire 200 workout video collection! This is the most boring tape and provides nothing in terms of a workout! This should be placed in the secialty section under "elderly." So, unless you are 80, this video is not worth it!! - posted by Jenni McMaster on 8/3/2003
Worst of Kathy Smith
I love Kathy Smith, but this was the worst! I disliked everything about this one. I bought it because I have always enjoyed Kathy's videos and also because it was listed as a staff favorite. However, once I did this one, I was talking to myself in disgust, believing that surely someone at Collage made a big mistake. This is not good! - posted by Tina on 7/16/2003

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
