Time graph for The Firm: Sculpted Buns, Hips & Thighs
A tough, extra-motivating video featuring orchestra and jazz-type music and The Firm’s usual movie-quality production. Tracie Long’s precise cuing and constantly-changing moves guarantees a shapely, well-defined body. A short, intense all-floorwork program with lots of tempo and movement variations. These classic routines are precision-targeted to those familiar “trouble spots”: your abs, thighs and buttocks. There’s a “choreographed” feel to this workout — Tracie makes it interesting by constantly alternating the exercises and varying the pace (e.g. fast, slow, pulsed; with and without weights). Requires 8 to 20 lb. dumbbells and 3 to 5 lb. ankle weights. Re-edited from The Firm’s Tortoise and Hare. Formerly titled “Lie Down and Work Out.” ©1996.

The Firm: Sculpted Buns, Hips & Thighs

really liked this
The back of the dvd shows a time graph showing the abs time equal to the lower body time 50/50 so yes, the title is misleading BUT it still is a great tape!It really works the lower body and abs well.I like the older firm sets with the "mansion" as this one has.I find the newer firm dvds look like all the other exercise dvds now.In the past with the music and mansion set they had a uniqueness to them.It is 1/2 hour long .You can add heavier ankle weights to increase the intensity. One of my favorite lower body floor tapes-very easy on the knees[no lunges or squats] - posted by Dulcy on 1/12/2009
Just What I Needed
I just had foot surgery and was looking for an all floor workout. With foot surgery I am looking at 2 months or more for recovery. This tape was perfect. It helped me to stay in shape and continue to feel good. I have many Firm tapes and have never been disappointed. I would love it if I could find floor work with weights for the upper body. - posted by Linda on 12/18/2008
Mistitled but excellent
It is true that it is more abs than legwork, but all the same it is one of the best matwork tapes ever. It combines a variety of really effective exercises for the lower body that can be made more challenging by simply using ankleweights the whole time through. You can relax your back and your mind, while at the same time feeling good because you're nonetheless working out seriously. The routines are very well thought out and flowing one into the other aided by very precise and soothing cueing. In these last years, apart from Pilates, the floorwork segments of the workouts tend to be really short, so it's really refreshing to be able to do 30 whole minutes of excellent matwork. - posted by Chiara on 7/5/2008
Mis-Titled!
I read the reviews saying that this video didn't have sufficient butt and thigh toning to warrant its name, but I thought people were perhaps being harsh. Wish I would've listened! It was MOSTLY abs--maybe ten minutes of butt and thigh toning, which is not what I expected. I was in the market for an all-floor tush toner, a la the *original* Buns of Steel (with Greg Smithey), the best, all-time, all-floor toning hips, thighs and buttocks workout, in my opinion! - posted by Bryn on 6/20/2008
Love it!
I have had this tape for years, and it is one of my all time favorites. It is great for a day when you are burned out on cardio and just want floor exercises. It is definitely more abs than anything else, so the title is a little deceiving, but who can't use extra ab work It works great while trying to mix up your workouts and create "muscle confusion" as The Firm encourages you to do. - posted by Laura on 1/5/2008
Title is deceiving; primarily an abdominal workout
One of many classic Firm tapes that I own, this tape, despite the title, is primarily an abdominal workout. The leg/thigh sections, which are substantial enough, can be made more challenging by using ankle weights (up to 5 lbs.). Incorporates signature Firm pelvic floor exercises and bridge work. If done consistently, you will notice significant improvement in your abdominal area and tightening in the gluteal region. Tracie Long is an excellent instructor; my favorite of all of the Firm instructors. - posted by Joy on 12/29/2007
Long time favorite
I'm amazed that people say this doesn't work your legs. The ab work is great also, like another reviewer said -as soon as your legs can't take anymore you do an ab segment. The music and moves are all to the point and work great. I definetly see results from this video. It is great to rotate from the standing leg exercises in other workouts with the floor ones in this video. I sometimes do the tae bo 8 min workout for a warmup if I feel I need one. Sometimes I just add this to the end of a regular workout and cut the last ab segment out to make it bit shorter. Overall it is an excellent workout and a keeper! Tracy is also one of my favorite instructors. I have several firms. - posted by Jessica on 6/12/2007
DVD Acts Like A Video
Although I bought the DVD, they might as well simply sell the VHS. There are no chapters. You have to sit through (or fast forward) the opening advertisements. The workout is combined - alternating abdominal and leg exercises. All are done from the floor. I bought this DVD because I'm recovering from a knee injury and can't do standing leg exercises. This DVD has a great leg workout for my situation, so I'm glad I have it. However, I thought the abdominal exercises were too easy, so I'll be fast-forwarding through those sections and using this DVD exclusively for leg work. There are better Ab workout DVD's elsewhere. - posted by Eileen on 4/26/2007

A Real Favorite
This is a great workout to add some variety to your rotation. Core (abs), hip and thigh work done on the floor. I always feel this one the next day and I'm an advanced Firmie!! I recommend this one - it's a classic - tried and true. - posted by JM on 11/13/2006
WAS NOT IMPRESSED
I definitely could have done without it! Not only was it boring, but what's with all the ab exercises It doesn't even have "abs" in its' title...which was a big oversight! I don't think it works the lower body enough either. It has no warm up, it went on forever and it was not fun! Even though I am a fan of Tracie Long, I am not a fan of this workout. I thought the BSS3 Hips, Thighs & Abs is WAY more fun and all around a much better workout for the lower body! - posted by MRS on 11/10/2006

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
