Certified instructor description: Nearly two hours of innovative step routines taught by three different instructors. You get the variety and excitement of three workout styles in an effective, 100%-fat-burning program. Joan Pitt begins with lots of dancy choreography (without a lot of combo breakdowns or repetition). Dawn Pappas follows with intense/high-impact, athletic routines blended with short recovery intervals. Finally Lori Saitta, a very likeable instructor, ends the cardio with a creative medley of complex patterns that just keep moving along. Very relaxing (and well-deserved) cooldown. Some vocals in the club-style music. ©1998. Comes in a plain white cover. DVD has: Narrow screen.

CIA 9804: All Star, All Step

An all-time classic
I've been doing this video for years and years and never get tired of it. Joan is my favorite, with innovative choreography and fun music - and yes, excellent cueing. Dawn's is a hoot, guaranteed to wake you up and kick your tush to Venus. Lori's is smooth and seamless with some nice intervals worked in. If only they would bring it out on DVD! - posted by Julie on 11/3/2009

It's me Joan Pitt
I appreciate the thoughtful comments. When I was asked to make this video, I was told it was to provide 'instructors' with new, innovative choreography. (By the way, the person who guessed i was older then them was wrong, as I am now in my early 40's). In class, I brought the same level of enthusiam and energy in a 'user friendly way' for all levels. I do not teach now and until now never even came across this feedback. Thanks again and keep on the fitness track. - posted by JP on 4/29/2006
A waste of money!!!
This is the worst step video I have ever used. I have been doing step for at least 7 years and this is the worst cueing ever!!! The second and third segments are ok but my heart rate did not even go up...I would not recomend this video to anyone!!! Do not waste your money!!! - posted by Robyn Blanchette on 4/5/2004
I Agree with Diane
I totally agree with Diane!! The first segment is impossible to follow!! I watched it a few times and now just disregard it. The next two segments are much easier to follow and alot more fun. I'm an advanced stepper and have been doing a few Kathy Smith step tapes but am ready to try something new, any suggestions - posted by Lynn on 3/10/2003
Great Video
This is a great video..once you get used to it. It's very dancy and not cued well at all (in teh 1st segment) but it would be really anoying to have to learn the steps in slow-mo each time you use this tape so I guess it's good just the way it is. It's definatly a challenger and something to work up to. You'll most likely be sore the next day - posted by Denise I on 6/17/2002
Stick with segments 2 and 3
Joan Pitt (segment 1) wins the prize for the worst cuing of any step video I've ever seen. She typically cues you just as she's going into the segment - for instance, she begins an 8-beat sequence, then on beat 1 or 2 says "straddle kick" or whatever it is - there's no time to prepare, no sense of what might be coming next - the only approach is to memorize the entire sequence for next time, or frantically try to catch up. Example - even in the warm-up she suddenly prances and spins around the step, then brightly says "Combination!" Please tell us in advance what's coming, and give us a clue what "combination" you might be talking about!! It's maddening! The best step instructors (Christi Taylor, Cathe Friedrich) consistently give you the next combination about 8 beats ahead, so there's a sort of flow to it. Combine the poor cuing with the sometimes too-fancy camera work (JUST when a new combination is presented, the camera angle switches to above, below, behind or wherever, so you lose your sense of what you're looking at) and the first segment is just way too frustrating. BUT segments 2 and 3 are great - a good workout, better cuing, good instructors. - posted by Diane on 5/2/2002
An Awesome Challenge!
This video is very challenging and maybe even a little frustrating at first, but once you master the moves, it is so much fun! I usually do 1 or 2 of the three segments and then follow up with weights. It's like you get three incredibly advanced workouts on one tape. I would definitely recommend it. - posted by E. This is not for beginners!!!!!
I thought I was good, but this plainly set me back and told me I was a wimp. This kicked my butt. I am still trying to figure out all the steps. They move through them so quickly with only one demonstration, then they are onto the next rotation, add 15 more, then back. It's crazy, definately not for someone between beginner and intermediate. - posted by Suzanne on 6/14/2001
BIG DISAPPOINTMENT
I'm an advanced stepper and a quick study. This does require patience to master. However, it sets you up for injury - several combos are just going to wreck havoc on your knees..one shouldn't have to modify to that extent! Also, trying to learn steps from someone wearing long black pants with black shoes on a black step is like trying to find your way in the dark - there's no contrast - you can't see what she's doing! Poorly thought out! - posted by LISA on 4/23/2001
Frustrating
This tape is very frustrating, the cueing is awful and hard to follow. To much spinning around and turning. These might be good workouts in person, but trying to follow in front of the T.V. leaves a lot to be desired. - posted by Lisa Smith on 3/28/2001

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.
sample time graph
Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

When played on a widescreen TV, this program will show black bars on the left and right sides. On an older 4x3 ratio TV, it will fill the entire screen.
