Time graph for CIA 9809: Kickbox Express

It’s non-stop intensity — from the opening jump-rope warm-up right through the stamina-building “cardio/sculpt” segment. Janis Saffell’s upbeat personality and just-having-fun classmates are sure to keep you on pace and energized. The aerobics feature a more-choreographed-than-most medley of boxing and kickboxing routines (e.g. “chassé forward, knee, knee, knee,” “half-turn back kick”). The jump rope section ranges from simple hops to more advanced ski hops, straddles and cross-overs. Then it’s “cardio sculpting” — up-tempo versions of squats, knee lifts and leg extensions blended with upper-body punches and jabs. Ends with a well-deserved tai chi cooldown. 1 to 2 lb. dumbbells are optional. ©1998.

love it
I can't believe some reviewers said this wasn't an advanced workout. I've been working out for 25 years and this definetly is a good workout. Even if I skip the middle jumprope section I am dripping with sweat. I actally look forward to this tape, because it is fun too. My hrm said my heart rate was up to over 90 during the workout. - posted by Kelley on 6/30/2006
great calorie burner
I guess I don't understand the neg reviews. Okay, this is my first kickboxing video besides tae bo which doesnt do much for me, but after I got all the moves down, I was dripping with sweat and according to my heart rate monitor, I stayed within 85-92 of my target heart rate which is very good, and it said I burned 444 calories, and that's not doing the jumprope sagment. great workout, and fun. - posted by Kelley on 5/12/2006
didn't work for me
If you like a challenging workout, I do not recommend this one. I have taken kickboxing classes before and this video did not get my heart beating at all. - posted by Crystal on 4/9/2006
Bad choreography
I'm a fan of Janis, I have her Brand New Butt and More workout and it is a killer! But I was disappointed with this one. The choreography is horrible. She'll do three sets on one leg and five on the next - I hate unbalanced workouts. Reps should be the same on each side and the instructor should be keeping track of this. The jump rope sections were tough in terms of cardio but I was disappointed with the kickboxing segments. - posted by Amanda on 11/6/2005
YUCK!
I hate this tape. It is not challenging and I do not like the background, music, routine, or cueing. Wish I would have gotten my money back. - posted by Mindy on 3/19/2005
A fun addition to my collection
This is the first "older" from Janis I tried. It has a bit of a dated feel and I was a bit annoyed by her use of the word awesome over and over(but it was the 90's, right) She does not do that in her newer workouts. That being said, I love the kickboxing portions of this tape. The jumprope sections are okay, but the kickboxing is just plain fun. Janis always keeps things interesting with her choreography and that is a must for me. If a workout doesn't keep me interested, I start watching the clock. Its a keeper and I will continue to purchase her workouts. - posted by Kathy on 8/1/2004
Challenging
I love this tape. I am actually motivated to do this workout cause it is fun. The jump rope isn't my favorite but it sure tones my legs and gets my heart pumping. You will burn a lot of calories during this workout! - posted by Heidisue on 6/11/2004
Great Workout
I think that this tape, done start to finish, is a challenging workout. I have a hard time believing that the jump rope segments would not elevate the average exerciser's heart rate. I would consider myself very fit, and I got a good workout from this tape. I like Janis, she's down to earth and sets a great example. - posted by Kelly W. on 5/24/2004
I agree - Not Challenging Enough
Maybe it was the fact that I also ordered a Cathe Frederich cardio video at the same time, but there is NO WAY they are both at the same level. Cathe is clearly advanced, this video might rate intermediate! Although I liked holding weights during the kickboxing section, I still think Taebo advanced videos are harder (and the moves aren't weighted at all), probably because of their fast pace. The kickboxing section is simply too slow, and although jumping rope is a nice variation not too often seen, you can get similar intensity in other videos much more easily. - posted by Hope Jackson on 5/15/2004
NOT CHALLENGED!!!!!!
I workout for 2 hours or more daily and I found this workout "waaay" too easy. I did like the kickbox conditioning part of the tape. I liked it because there was more legwork. The rest was more upper body and abs, which you can do if your legs are wore out from other more challenging workout tapes. If someone knows of a more challenging kickboxing tape, I would really appreciate it. On a scale of 1-10, I would give this tape a 5.5!! - posted by XTREME on 5/8/2004

Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
