Certified instructor description:
Entirely kickboxing focused, it’s a comprehensive medley of intense aerobics, kickbox-specific muscle toning and extended stretches. You’ll achieve the endurance, strength, stability, balance (and mental toughness) of this booming fitness phenomenon. The cardio segment alternates jump-rope intervals with a series of fast-paced jabs, punches, shuffles and high kicks. The toning section features very challenging, very concentrated routines to shape your shoulders, upper back, buttocks and legs. Throughout, Keli’s cuing is excellent — she always tells you what you’re doing and why. Keli uses several rubber exercise devices; what’s actually required are 1 to 2 lb. dumbbells and a step (for the toning); a regular Dyna-Band and a jump rope would also be helpful. ©1999. A Total Disappointment
I've had this video for a while. It isn't new but the techniques of kickboxing don't change much. This was my first kboxing video and was anxious to get to it. Unfortunately, I could never bring myself to enjoy this video. First of all, I was totally turned off my the headwear and outfit she had on. I chuckled when another reviewer thought she was ready to commit a burglary. The warm up was not a warm up but a series of bouncing and jumping rope!!! I didn't care for her presentation or moves and never got my heart rate up. Every kickboxing tape subsequent to this has been better. - posted by Sue Ellen on 6/29/2003
Why is it called kickbutt cardio combat
Was she getting ready to do a burglary - what's with the outfit Anyway, the production was terrible, there is hardly any kicking and she is boring as well. I was looking for an advanced kickboxing video and THIS IS NOT IT. - posted by Sylvie on 3/27/2003
Great Video
I thought this video was awesome. I used to go to a kickboxing class, and bought a Tae Bo video when I moved, but it just wasn't the same. This video was just right- not too dancy but an awesome workout. You can do the jump rope sections without a rope if you don't have space. The set and camera work isn't the best, but you feel so good when you finish that it doesn't matter. - posted by Kristin on 10/17/2002
needs less jumprope!
I love Keli, but this tape has way too much jumproping going on- it's tedious. And the bellhops and ski jumps kill my knees.I jog in place during the jumprope segments- which seems to work ok- but if you want kickboxing, you may want to try a different tape! - posted by karen on 9/9/2002
Needs more kickboxing & less jumprope
Keli is a favorite of mine, but I was disappointed in the emphasis on all the hopping and jump rope- it's monotonous and the ski jumps and bell hops really mess with my knees. I end up jogging in place through the jump rope sections, which seems to work ok.As far as a kickboxing tape, though, Kathi Smith's is a better choice. - posted by karen on 9/7/2002

Disappointment
I was looking forward to this tape to teach sports moves to my students and learn kickboxing myself from a professional. The classes I attended as a student were far more valuable. Keli's warm up consisted of jump rope techniques!! That was the bigges turn-off. I had to do my own warm up. As I proceeded, I couldn't get my heart rate up and lost interest. I never even made it to the toning part. I also found it boring and didn't care for her get-up. What was with the cap on her head? CIA highly recommended this tape, but they were off on this one. - posted by Susan on 6/10/2002
Didn't Like it
I thought it was just me. CIA was really promoting this tape and when it came in the mail, I couldnt wait to try it. The first disappointment was the warm-up. She was bouncing and jumping rope. Also, I didn't get my heart rate up like the other reviewer. I thought her outfit was off-putting, looked manly. I was hoping to learn some good moves, but didn't get much out of this video. - posted by Anna on 6/10/2002
Let-Down
I was looking forward to this work-out to perhaps teach my aerobics students something new. I had never taught kickboxing before and wanted to learn good form and technique. I was totally disappointed. Her warm-up consisted of jump roping and bouncing. I had trouble geting past those. I didn't really work up a sweat and didn't learn much. I didn't care for her presentation or the "look" of the video. - posted by Rita on 9/2/2001
Great!!
This is a great video!! I also use light weights when I do the punching sequences. (Really burns the shoulders!!) It definately get your heart rate up!! I do this video 3-4x per week!! Definately recommend it!! - posted by Rebecca on 6/4/2001

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Narrow screen
X
When played on a widescreen TV, this program will show black bars on the left and right sides. On an older 4x3 ratio TV, it will fill the entire screen.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Aerobics & Toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
