Certified instructor description: Uses a “stretchy” latex band to simulate the resistance of the original “reformer” machine designed by Joseph Pilates (without its size or expense). This program is personally demonstrated one-on-one by Moira Stott-Merrithew (i.e. she does the workout). Focusing on spine stabilization, she begins with an extended warm-up/instruction segment. Then progresses through a blend of both Pilates and more traditional floor exercises. You’ll get a long, lean dancer’s physique as you develop core body strength for everyday activities. Moira is a skilled, veteran instructor who particularly emphasizes form and Pilates technique. Requires a 5-foot Dyna-Band. ©2000. (52 min.). DVD has: Chapter menus, Music only option, Narrow screen.

I Enjoyed It
I found this workout very relaxing and pleasant. The flex band that came with my DVD works very well. This workout is a nice change from traditional weights. The set is bright and pleasant. The time flew by. The only thing that was really challenging for me was holding the band because sometimes I got cramps in my hands and wrists, so they got a real workout too. I recommend this workout for a nice change of pace. - posted by Leeya on 2/19/2006
LOVE the workout HATE the band
I love this DVD...you get a great stretch and tough resistance through your back, arms abs and legs. However, I HATE the band that came with the DVD. After using it about 8 times in 2 weeks, the edges are curled up and so stuck together I don't know if I can ever get it back flat. I have other bands (one from Winsor Pilates, another from Denise Austin) that never had this problem. Has anyone else experienced this Otherwise--this is fabulous. - posted by Rebecca on 7/2/2004
Good for Beginners
This is a nice introduction to Pilates Band Workouts, but if you are a regular exerciser and in even moderately good shape, this will be too easy for you. I would suggest going for the more advanced Stott Band workout instead, and/or Mari Winsor's Advanced Body Sculpting w/the band. Also, the flexi-band included with this tape is very narrow and has a tendency to stick together after you've grasped it for awhile. Winsor's flexi-band is much better quality. This is a nice workout for beginners to Pilates or to exercise in general but you will outgrow it fast! - posted by Sydney Paige on 7/1/2004
ab-fab
must say that this video is top notch. reminds me alot of the ballet lessons I grew up with, Moira reminds me of the teachers I had: quiet, confident, no nonsense. I have had four pregnancies, all c-section, and this is the only exercise that has really shown results. please make more tapes, moira, we need you!! Thanks! - posted by krisD on 6/8/2003
wonderful
I just tried the flex band tape with moira stott last night, and I must say, I really love it...after years of ballet, four pregnancies, and just trying to work in some step aerobics and weights, since I have added pilates to my routine, I am feeling and looking great. Moira reminds me of the ballet instructors I grew up with. Quiet, confident, but no nonsense. two of my friends just had babies, and you would not believe their waist lines ALREADY!! this tape is it, ladies, Moira is just my style. PLEASE keep making more pilates tapes, Moira, we need you!! - posted by krisD on 6/8/2003
Wonderflul
I have to say that this video was amazing in that it hit muscles that I don't use in any other of my fitness videos. I've used weights, pilates and yoga for many years -and am surprised and pleased that at my fitness level, to be getting sore in places I've never been. Just a word to those who don't think that this workout didn't do much for them, they do have a fitness band on her site that is more advanced resistance, and that in itself would maybe lend itself to more difficulty. She also has a level 3 workout that is more advanced which I plan on purchasing at some point in the near future. I worked up a light sweat and felt energized and relaxed afterwards, but also somewhat sore and spent the next day.Surprised at this -the workout is elegant, the music is soothing, and Moria is excellent. - posted by Rebecca Bishop on 4/1/2003
Not Appealing
I bought this tape because I wanted to get use out of my latex stretch band, but the workout did not appeal to me. The instructor constantly demonstrates how NOT to do the exercises, and I found this distracting. Also, the workout was too repetitious to motivate me. I think I would prefer Denise Austen's Flexband Workout, so I might try it. - posted by April on 1/28/2003
Strength through Calm Instruction
This tape does build core strength. The instructor is so calming and precise that I often shut my eyes and make the exercise more meditative. Having practiced yoga for many years, I feel this tape is very effective in improving stength and posture. A great way to unwind yet build strength. - posted by Marge on 8/25/2002

Not quite what I expected
I had high expections for this video and maybe that's more the reason I was disappointed than anything else. I have a Reformer and thought this would be a good travel tape. I could indeed see where the bands took the place of the Reformer springs and straps but I got very little muscle work from it, not in my abs or anywhere else. Correctly grasping the Theraband and executing the exercises precisely is evidently very important and I must've been doing everything wrong because all I felt was a little shoulder fatigue the next day. I'd like to try it a few more times but I just can't make myself do it, the workout didn't engage me enough to want to work up to it, unfortunately. - posted by JoanneN on 2/19/2002

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
