Certified instructor description: Combines Pilates-inspired movements with classic abdominal toning. You’ll increase the strength and flexibility of your “core” muscles, the muscles that support and stabilize your entire body. Karen’s unique complementary design optimizes safety and effectiveness. For example, a contracting movement is followed by a lengthening motion. Or a back-muscle move is followed by an ab routine (usually integrating the legs and arms to vary the intensity). Lots of modifications, exquisite cuing and quiet instrumental music. ©2000. DVD has: Narrow screen.

Karen Voight's Pilates Core Power Abs & Back

Timeless!
I started this workout when it was on vhs. So glad to have it back! Posture is better after the first workout! Plus you just feel strong. Love it! - posted by Thea on 12/13/2012
Excellent Pilates
I already had this in VHS which would no longer played on my VCR/DVD player I was very disappointed I went on line to search for the DVD & was quite relieved to find it. This is one of the best Pilates tape I have & use. - posted by Marlene on 10/15/2012
needs a better core
great do-able video. felt challenged but not too sore to move the next day. seemed to help with the sciatica. - posted by carrie on 8/2/2012
Great for anyone with back problems
I had a microdiscectomy several years ago and usually wake up with a stiff, sore back. This workout makes my back feel better every time I do it and it does a good job of working my abs. Karen's cueing is great and her attitude is pleasant - I will probably get more of her workouts in the future. I didn't give it 5 stars because I think, like several other reviewers, that it should have a beginner/intermediate rating. - posted by Dawn on 4/21/2011
Low back, Hip and Hip-Flexor Relief AT LAST!
For the past few weeks my lower back has been achy, achy achy. My right hip and hip flexor has been sooo tight too. No matter what kind of stretching/strengthening I've been doing, it's remained the same. UNTIL NOW. My mother gave this DVD to me several months ago. I failed to check it out until now. I'm so glad I finally did! After only ONE time doing this video I have IMMEDIATE BACK PAIN and HIP PAIN RELIEF! Don't get me wrong...everything's a little sore still and will be for a few days (as can be expected when muscles remain tense for lengthy periods of time). I really love this routine! The music is pretty catchy too. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! - posted by Rachael of South Dakota on 3/8/2011
Good Choice!
Was a bit intimidating to watch but once I began this work out I enjoyed it very much. Its the perfect combo of pilates, strengthening, and yoga moves. Good Choice! - posted by Kay on 12/18/2010
Excellent exercise and stretching.
Great core exercising and overall flexibility. - posted by Daniel on 10/28/2010
Effective and enjoyable.
Really like this work-out for your abs and back --not killer, but very effective. Karen is great -- her cueing and instruction on body mechanics are top-notch,and my back definitely feels stronger after I do the work-out. Check out her tips on fitness walking on the DVD also. - posted by Isabel on 10/23/2010
Very enjoyable!
I'm not a big fan of pilates, but I sure enjoy this DVD. It has a good pace and modifications for those of us who need to build up some strength before attempting the "regular" moves. To me, it seems more like a yogilates video than just pilates--maybe that's why I like it so much. Seems to do a good job on the core area. I highly recommend to those who want to strengthen their cores but want something other than the typical ab workouts. Nice change of pace and I like the way Karen teaches this workout. - posted by Tess on 10/15/2010
Good for beginners
Nice job Karen. For those who need an intermediate video, this may not be the one. - posted by Taylor on 10/14/2010

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
