Certified instructor description: Latin rhythms — “lots of hips, lots of shoulders, lots of fun.” Well-cued and easy to follow, you’ll burn fat and even tone your abs (with all the hips/abs movements). Born in Brazil and raised in Venezuela, Elise Foss has a loose, natural approach to these routines (“In Brazil, we call this dance, not exercise”). She starts with step-by-step demonstrations of samba, mambo, merengue and cha cha. Then she integrates these moves with cardio classics like pivots, grapevines, hustles and even a little funk. Usually taught add-on style, you get to practice the steps before advancing to the next combo. Upbeat Latin instrumental music. ©2000. DVD has: Narrow screen.

EXCELLENT!
I really love this DVD. You get both Spanish and English workouts. They are two separate workouts, not dubbed. I think the Spanish version is actually better because they are dancing smoother. I love the moves in this workout and I really get my heartrate up. I think this is one of my favorite workouts. - posted by Leeya on 9/24/2005
Wish I hadn't bought this one!
I played this as soon as I got it. I love salsa music and was really looking foward to this dvd. Once I heard the music I had to force myself to actually use it. The music is horrible! I actually think I heard traces of the Mexican Hat dance! Ok, that is Latin, but come on! The moves aren't much fun either. Kathy Smith's Latin Rhythm Workout has great music and is a lot more fun. If the Elise's dance steps weren't so goofy, I could at least play my own music. This is a total waste of money and time! - posted by Marianne on 6/21/2005
Great Energy!
I got this video and Viva!Brazilian Rhtyhm workout as well, and I love them both. The Brazilian Rhtyhm workout is a little bit more intense and I enjoy that ! - posted by Rachel on 4/6/2005
Viva! Latin Rhythm Workout
One reviewer mentioned that this video isn't very Latin. I didn't believe it, but it's true. I am not an exercise guru, but I have lost 30 pounds using Tae Bo and weight training. To get a what I consider a "workout," I had to really exaggerate the movements in this video. Don't be fooled--this is a standard aerobics workout. - posted by Amie on 7/1/2004
FUN and gets you sweaty!!!
I do not like aerobics, but I really needed to do some cardio workout, so I found this, and really, IT IS A GEM! The workout is based on very easy Latin dance steps, so it is much more fun than doing plain floor or step aerobics! And you don't need to be a dancer to use it! It is great fun! Try it! - posted by Susana Echeverria on 4/21/2004
SALSA AEROBICS WORK
I have been using Viva Latin Rhythm, Crunch Cardio Salsa, Step Salsation, and Zumba Advanced (along with a little Taebo Ultimate Abs)for the last 30 days and I must honestly say my torso and waist have definitely slimmed down! I am very pleased with this video as well as all of the other latin-based aerobic videos I use! The results are enough to compensate for any "pet peeves". As well, by alternating them I keep my workouts fun! For those who desire that "hour glass figure" don't be fooled, Latin-based dance aerobics are definitely waist whittlers and add a beautiful, sexy, feminine look and feeling that carries throughout the day. Give it a try! YOU WILL LOVE THE RESULTS! - posted by Kalema on 2/13/2004
Nothing Special
I was excited to get the video after reading all the reviews. Now after doing it, I'm very disappointed. I thought it was slow and boring. The music was monotonous and even though they got regular people to do the exercise rather than professional dancers, it was more of an annoyance since the lady in the back looked bored and uninspired and the girl on the left was all over the place. She didn't even bother to try to do the dance moves. The only girl that was mostly keeping in synch with Elise was the girl on the right. I find that the Zumba videos are definitely more fun and a better workout. - posted by Jenna on 1/17/2004
Dance, dance, dance
This is the most delightful workout tape I have ever done! Elise is a great motivator, and the music makes me want to dance, dance, dance! It is interesting enough, yet not so complex that I had to struggle with learning it. I have some limited dance training, & I learned the steps quickly. Her cueing is excellent. I highly recommend this video. - posted by Joan on 11/30/2003
Excellent!
I was a little unsure about this workout, because I am really uncoordinated and figured I would look/feel stupid, but it quickly became my favorite workout. Elise is an enthusiastic teacher and breaks down the moves so that anybody can follow along. The whole work out feels more like dancing than exercising. - posted by Jenny on 10/1/2003

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
