Certified instructor description: Two compact, very upbeat workouts. "Fat Blaster" is an energizing mixture of easier Latin/dancy moves and slightly tougher "cardio challenges." The pulsating live drum music will keep you groovin’; Kendell Hogan’s spirited motivation will keep you movin’. He demos a huge variety of fast-paced, always-changing choreography (e.g. a power jack and lunge series followed by a "spicy" salsa and cha cha medley). Michelle Dozois’ "Step & Sweat" is pure movement - you’ll build a combo one step at a time, then proceed right into a new series. From traditional straddles, chassés and mambos to "heel twists" and "rock the knees" - plus lots of arm patterns - it never slows down. ©2000 & 1997. (66 min.). Note: VHS tape ONLY has the "Fat Blaster" workout; "Step & Sweat" is not included. DVD has:
Narrow screen.

Fun and quick- intermediate for sure
I did the 1st half of the DVD-- Fat Blaster with Kendell Hogan. It was fun, easy to follow and went by very quickly. I sweat some-- not tons, but it is only 30 min after all. Definitely an intermediate workout in terms of choreography. I recommend it for those who want a quick and efficient workout. Kendell is a great instructor-- I love his enthusiasm. A few of the girls in the back are annoying, but I enjoyed the consistent beat from the live drums. - posted by Robyn W on 4/7/2007

A Mixed Bag
I am a beginner, so I would need a lot of coaching. The routines in Fat Blaster were complex but learnable, and Kendall was great. Overall, I will continue to use that routines for light days. However, Step and Sweat is very, very hard to follow. The camera work is very bad. You see more footage of the women's upper bodies from weird angles, but don't see their feet. - posted by B V on 2/2/2007

A Fun Step Workout!
I have had the Fat Blaster tape for years, and I didn't really like it when I first got it. The main reason was because I thought it was hard to follow. Most of my experience with step since then has been with Cathe Friedrich videos. I am a bit out of shape now after 2 pregnancies, so I pulled out this tape. I was amazed, I love it! It is a fun tape. If you have experience with step, it will take about 3 workouts to get the routine down. I don't recommend this for beginners because Kendall Hogan is not the best at cueing moves ahead of time. The last combo also seems really odd to me, it is almost like a cool-down. The drums are different and are motivating to me. I usually do this and then do the upper body portion of Kendall's Total Resculpt DVD. That combined with Cathe's Low Impact Step DVD is whipping me into shape! I recommend this tape for folks with step experience who want a little shorter workout that is not as challenging. - posted by Cathy on 10/26/2006

Someone's going to get hurt...
Take it from the other reviewers, the cueing is terrible--so bad, you could actually break an ankle or twist a knee. My biggest complaint, however, is that once he shows you several moves to a combo and you just about begin to feel confident, he moves on to another combo, never to "take it from the top" or return to a previous combo. I found that to be extremely frustrating. I didn't even get to the second workout--I'm returning this one right away. - posted by Amy on 10/7/2006

Don't Bother
First workout was doable but the second was extremely difficult to follow. Choreography category should be upgraded from moderate to complex. I could not keep up the trainer. I do not recommend this two set DVD. You'd be better off with the fat blaster video only. Don't bother with the step and sweat, escpecially if you are a beginner. I've been stepping for over 10 years, now, and I couldn't keep up. - posted by Lynda on 9/25/2006

A Big NO!
This is the first bad review I have given. I have an extensive DVD step aerobic collection and have been stepping for about 16 years. I do beginner to advanced level intensity and choreography. This tape though I have tried it repeatedly is just lousy. The cuing is awful. I wish I had sent it back when I had the chance. - posted by Kathy on 7/4/2006

Kickback Step
I've had this DVD since 2001, I think. It's the type of step routine that I love to do on my easy day or when I just want to cruise thru my workout. The moves are fun and the choreography is non-threatening. Fat Blaster w/ Kendell is my fav out of the two, but I like Step & Sweat too. Fat Blaster has engaging BGM and Kendell is a fabulous instructor; Michelle is an awesome instructor as well, but Step & Sweat just seems to drag in comparison to Fat Blaster. My husband, who is a percussionist, digs the music in Fat Blater too...it's really cool. Anyway, this is the type of workout that is a "party in the box" so have fun!:-) - posted by redwizard on 5/17/2006

Confusing and Frustrating
Maybe I have two left feet, but this video was not for me. It left me scratching my head and doing my own moves just to get a burn. I guess the promise of a fun, fast, and effective workout got the best of me---Why did I buy this thing - posted by Rose on 2/22/2006

don't buy this!
This video is horrible! The coreography is frustrating, the camrea isn't focused on the feet during the changes. Trying to do this video crushed my confidence and makes me want to break things. - posted by Jennifer on 10/13/2005

Not for me
I ordered this dvd to mix up my step workouts and was disappointed. I am an intermediate to advanced stepper and I found the moves tricky and the cuing to be very poor. I'll stick with Gin Miller and Charlene Prickett. I even prefer Kathy Smith over this one. - posted by Kimberly on 9/24/2005
