Certified instructor description: A variety of precisely-sequenced routines designed to firm your buttocks and lift your bustline (by building the underlying chest muscles). A fat-burning bonus: the movements are fast-paced enough to raise your heart rate into its aerobic zone. The Firm’s unique “muscle confusion” technique continually intermixes/combines upper and lower-body segments for increased efficiency and lots of interest. Re-edited from recent previous Firm videos, you get three distinct instructors and teaching styles. Requires at least two sets of dumbbells and a step. Optional equipment includes ankle weights, a 14" “Fanny Lifter” or High Step, barbell/body bar and medicine ball. ©1999. DVD has: Narrow screen.

Excellent Sculpting Workout
I just did Bust & Butt last night again and thought it to be an excellent, fast-paced workout. The last time I did the workout, I didn't think it was especially challenging. Last night I increased the weight on some of the exercises and what a BIG difference! I definitely feel tighter and more lifted today. I actually like the fact that the exercises are a bit different and that there is no tall box climb because it's a different kind of workout and my knees need an occasional rest. - posted by Debbie, Houston on 2/6/2007
very good
If you love the Firm, you will love this one. It was tough. My back got sore. - posted by Geneva on 5/4/2006
Couldn't like it
I only did about 1/2 of Bust & Butt - I just couldn't like it...I found the set a little busy and distracting for one, and it's not even that the moves don't work...I can't quite put my finger on it but there was something that didn't sit well with me...I do, however, LOVE my transfirmer and the new series of transfirmer tapes...started doing them in january and still going strong! Maybe I'll try bust & butt again later and see if my feelings change about it. - posted by Heather on 3/16/2006
Total body workout
Don't be fooled by the title, this is a total body workout. More emphasis is put on your chest and glutes, but you still work every major muscle in your body. It's a decent workout, but it's also important to point out that there are no added cardio segments like you will find in other firm workouts. I have had this one for years, and still use it in my rotations. Don't be afraid to heavy up on the weights. - posted by Lulu Belle on 4/15/2005
Least favorite
I have just about every Firm workout tape and have been using them since 1988. This tape is my least favorite. I found the moves boring. I have done this tape probably 3 times and I just don't enjoy it. - posted by Mj on 1/15/2004
Great for toning!
This is a great toning video for all fitness levels. It does what it says. If you do it faithfully, it will tone your bust and butt! Great cuing! It's one of my favorite FIRM videos! - posted by Michelle on 12/2/2003
Does not live up to its name
I had to write this review so others will not waste their money. It does not concentrate on the bust AT ALL. Unless you consider endless push-ups bust work. No pec-flies, no overhead press, just push-ups, push-ups and more push-ups. I think we can all do push-ups without a video. As an overall scuplting tape, its alright, but there are much better Firm tapes available for sculpting, like Maximum Body Shaping, Tough Tape 1 & 2, Super Sculpting, just to name a few. - posted by Andy on 3/13/2003
Fast Paced Strength Training Marathon
I did Bust & Butt today and since it's fresh in my mind, wanted to write a review. This tape lives up to its' name, it works the glutes and pecs thoroughly and in creative, innovative ways. It is quite fast paced, but in my opinion, is not unsafe. You have to know your own limitations as with all exercise videos and perform the moves at your own pace if the video's pace seems to fast for your own comfort. I think it's a great change of pace from the slow, concentrated movements of other Firm's and my Cathe Friedrich tapes, which I also love.Bust and Butt does not contain any of the Firm's famous tallbox (fanny lifter) work, but it more than makes up for it with the varied lower body work, i.e. lunges, dips (some of which are performed off of the short box), plie squats with simultaneous bicep curls and upright rows with a barbell, bridgework with an exercise ball and floorwork over the tallbox with ankle weights. It also contains quite a bit of upper body work that hits every upper body muscle -- lots of pushups (I do them on the floor because it feels very uncomfortable on the box), bicep curls with the barbell, french press with dumbell, upright rows, overhead press, etc. There are several segments that truly kill me -- when Dale does the plie squats at the same time she's doing bicep curls and upright rows...WOW, tough. And then Tamela has a particularly hard segment, bunny lunges while holding the barbell in a frozen bicep curl. These will have your legs trembling if you are using a challenging weight. I would recommend this video for any advanced (or intermediate/advanced) exerciser. One of my favorite Firm's, and it's a fairly short length, but the intensity ensures that no more time is necessary to achieve fantastic results. - posted by Kristine on 8/11/2002
FABULOUS!!
Another of my favorite Firm tapes, and I have them all!! Effective muscle toning and cardio in one!! - posted by Carol on 6/22/2002
Love it!
I am a big fan of all the Firm videos, but I prefer doing those that aren't too "dancey." This one fits the bill! It's a great upper and lower body workout with about 5 minutes of abs in the middle. Especially great are the killer inner thigh plie sets...they give me the leg shakes like nobody's business. The instructors and the music are very good, but I agree with the poster below who commented that the cueing isn't what it should be. I get around that by pausing my VCR, getting myself into position, and starting again. I definitely recommend this one! (PS Also love Susan Harris Body Sculpting Basics and Sendahl Bergman's Aerobic Interval Training.) - posted by Mary Beth on 6/17/2002

Reading a Time Graph

Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
