Certified instructor description: Two workouts — first, a non-stop aerobic/anaerobic cardio interval program. Then, an intense muscle-toning segment. Mindy Mylrea, the 1999 IDEA Instructor of the Year, keeps you moving with her athletic style and friendly attitude. Featuring both step and hi/lo sections, the aerobics intermix one-minute recovery phases with ultra-challenging cardio sprints (e.g. further, faster, higher-impact large-muscle movements). The “Pump Party” toning workout continues the interval concept — a series of proven body-sculpting routines structured in more-intense/less-intense sets. Soundtrack includes remakes of hit songs like “Oops, I Did It Again” and “What a Girl Wants.” A body bar is suggested; 5 to 10 lb. dumbbells also work. ©2001. DVD has: Narrow screen.

Love this Workout
I have to say this is one of my favorite workouts. When I really want a killer workout with some challenging moves that will cause my heart rate to skyrocket, I pull this video out. I also use some of the choreography in my aerobic classes and my girls always feel that it pushes them to their maximum heart rate in a good way. I recommend this video for the advanced workout fanatic that wants to be challenged. - posted by Lindsay on 8/20/2008
bad instruction
i have several of mindys tapes collecting dust in my exercise room. yes, she can get your heartrate up, but her cueing is horrendous. she never seems to get any better, despite having put out alot of videos. i never reach for her workouts, even when i am ready for a change from my usual rotations. i would rather go for a run. there is more satisfaction in that, than in mindys stuff. she should stop trying to be a comedian, and take teaching lessons instead. - posted by darlene on 7/14/2008

i have several of mindys tapes collecting dust in my exercise room. yes, she can get your heartrate up, but her cueing is horrendous. she never seems to get any better, despite having put out alot of videos. i kinda feel like a sucker for having bought the third and fourth of her offerings. its like she wants to rake in the money, but she doesn't care about the product she sells. i never reach for her workouts, even when i am ready for a change from my usual rotations. i would rather go for a run. there is more satisfaction in that, than in mindys stuff. she should stop trying to be a comedian, and take teaching lessons instead. - posted by darlene on 7/14/2008

EXTREME
I thought this was the best workout- even better than my entire Cathe Collection. I am thinking about getting a spin cycle and with all the money I spent on Cathe, I could have had one by now... Tossin' em!!! MINDY YOU ROCK!!! - posted by XTREEM on 3/10/2007
Awesome workout, motivating instructor & great music
I wanted a new video to add some pizazz to my rotation and this is it! Mindy is peppy and witty, and the moves in this advanced tape are challenging and interesting. The step portion is great and incorporates moves that mix things up from your basic step routine. I really like how the high/low portion is interesting...this is probably the most interesting high/low segment I've ever done (the ones I've done weren't this challenging) so it's almost a shame it's only 20 minutes long. And then Pump Party, which is a pretty good overall toning segment. This is my first tape with Mindy Mylrea - I like how she is funny and motivating, I also like how I can do the step, high/low or toning portions individually in the mornings before work, when I don't have the time to do the whole tape. This is such a great workout video and a worthwhile purchase! - posted by Sharon D.B. on 1/29/2005
Great music, lots of fun!
This is my first Mindy video and I had so much fun doing it I wanted to rewind and start again (but was too fatigued!) The music and her energy made me want to keep going. Also I was able to catch onto the step moves rather quickly after two or three tries, and this video got my heartrate up much more than The Firm videos I have been doing. However I would not say I ever reached the level "9" intensity that Mindy aims for during the intervals-- so I would say although this video is advanced, it is not killer advanced. Try it! One note however, it's very high impact, so if you have knee problems or are a klutz (like me) be extra careful with the moves, especially the really fast ones. - posted by roadrunner on 2/2/2004
great workout
this is a great workout for advanced steppers mindy is a high energy instructor using the latest core strenght as well as a excellent sound track and good mix in the pump party i highly recommend this tape but not for beginners - posted by jan on 12/3/2003
Good Workout
This is one intense video. I consider myself to be in good shape. The step portion had me sweating like a bull. The floor cardio portion was okay. The strength portion is very good. But a word to the wise. Since some of the moves are very fast, modify them and you will still get a good workout. - posted by KME on 7/20/2003
A Nice Change!
I'd consider myself an advanced exerciser who usually does Cathe and The FIRM. I'm starting to branch out a bit with other advanced tapes and I've heard good things about Mindy. This tape was a nice change for me. It's advanced, but not "killer" advanced. The choreography can be a little tricky at times, but nothing that you can't easily pick up after time.I really like that you can split the workout up into 3 parts. I love to combine the "parts" with other tapes I have.At first, I didn't think I'd be challenged by the Pump Party (toning section), but I was!. It won't build any muscles if you're used to Cathe, but it's great for endurance with a bit of cardio and core work mixed in to it. - posted by Diana on 6/11/2003

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Narrow screen
X
When played on a widescreen TV, this program will show black bars on the left and right sides. On an older 4x3 ratio TV, it will fill the entire screen.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Step aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The step aerobics segments involve stepping up and down on a platform. The moves range from simple stepping to more choreographed exercises. These segments require a step bench platform. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
