Certified instructor description: A very tough, non-stop, fat-burning blast featuring four complete aerobic/anaerobic circuits. For optimum variety and motivation, each circuit is led by one of four different instructors. Each brings her own personality and style to the workout — creative choreography from one; athletic, power moves from the next (one minute it’s fast-paced step-ups with lots of arm motions, next it’s slightly slower, more controlled floor aerobics holding a medicine ball). Smoothly re-edited from other Firm videos, the exercise transitions are flawless. Ends with some intense, yoga-based ab floorwork. Requires 3 to 8 lb. dumbbells; a 2 lb. medicine ball is suggested. ©1999. Note: The DVD lets you customize your own workout by selecting and/or rearranging any of the 17 individual segments on the program. DVD has: Programmable chapters, Narrow screen.

The Firm: Super Cardio

Programmable chapters!
Some of the workouts are hard, but get the job done. The setting and music is cheesy. But the best part by far is that you can choose up to 8 chapters to add variety to your workout. - posted by Melissa on 11/8/2009
Finally a Firm with Chapters!
I've had this workout for years and recently picked up the DVD. If someone thought this too easy, just up the weights. I really consider it a cardio workout anyway. After the thrill of being able to jump from one segment to another (you know, like 90% of most DVDs) I just got mad! Why can't all the Firms be chaptered. - posted by Robin on 10/19/2009
disappointing, but not bad
From the reviews I read here, I thought this would be a fabulous DVD. It wasn't. First of all, it's not an advanced workout, but rather an intermediate level. (I'm a Cathe person, and also love the old Firms, especially Variety Strength and Variety Heart.) Weights are so low as to be ineffective and my heart never really got pumping - though my heels certainly pummeled my neighbors' ceiling! It's not a bad tape, but I doubt I'll get much use out of it. - posted by Abigail on 9/27/2009
Whoa!
I now understand why people claim to like the "older" FIRM videos better than the newer ones. I do the newer ones (starting with the BSS 1 in 2002), and consider myself in decent shape. Holy cow, I couldn't keep up, and I can see why they have the 10 workout guarantee. Once I master this one, I will be adding more of the "older" workouts into my rotation. Yes, this is a dated video, yes there are leotard clad women in the videos, and yes they can resemble the stepford wives; but I am going to look past these issues and look forward to a great workout. - posted by Chris on 8/13/2009
LOVE THIS ONE!
I have all the new Firm cardio workouts and this oldie but goody is so fantastic! Time flew by so fast and because each instructor does various segments and workouts, you don't get bored. You do jump a lot in this one so if you don't like that, then, this one isn't for you. You use the small step of the Fanny Lifter 5lb. weights and a playground ball for various aerobic segments. The music wasn't as bad as people had said and I really enjoyed it. I can't wait to purchase some more of this series in the future! - posted by VIVIAN on 4/11/2009
A Good Hard Workout
I did this DVD recently and boy was it hard. I was sweating buckets 10 minutes into the workout. The workout is dated but I still enjoyed it. - posted by Kenya on 3/21/2009
So hard!
I love The Firm and this is no exception. It really is challenging, advanced exercisors only. You will totally feel like you have had a killer workout, I am dripping with sweat after this one. The variety of cardio is really nice too, hope you can keep up:) - posted by Kelley on 11/19/2008
liked it but
I've been doing the Firm workouts for 20 years and prefer the old classics over the newer Firm videos. This one is fun and challenging, but I'm 49 and found this one to be a little hard on my ankles. - posted by liz on 11/4/2008
Real kickbutt workout!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with some of the other reviews that Body Sculpting Basics and Super Cardio are among the toughest of the original Anna Benson Firms. I keep coming back to them time and time again, love them, and never get tired of them. Oh, and by the way, as for the instructors' personalities, they may not be cutsy and bubbly, but they're just fine! They seriously want you to get a great workout, and they do this exceptionally well. - posted by Myra on 9/30/2008
All-around oldie but goodie
I've had this on VCR for years, and just recently resurrected. I forgot how hard it was, and I consider myself to be in pretty good shape. By the time I get to the third to last section (Jen's high impact running/knee lift/leg kick section), I, too, want to just strangle her and say, "Enough already." I'm grateful that the final two sections (while still beneficial), allow me to breathe. I like that there are 4 different instructors, who each teach 3-6 segments. I like the change. Also, I appreciate the fact that the segments are fairly short (3-6 minutes in length), which doesn't allow me to get bored. Finally, I really like the music, particularly in Dale's section. - posted by Nancy in SC on 8/17/2008

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Programmable chapters
X
At the beginning of your workout, you can select the exact segments you want to play that day. The DVD will then play all those segments in the order you chose.
Narrow screen
X
When played on a widescreen TV, this program will show black bars on the left and right sides. On an older 4x3 ratio TV, it will fill the entire screen.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Step aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The step aerobics segments involve stepping up and down on a platform. The moves range from simple stepping to more choreographed exercises. These segments require a step bench platform. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
