Time graph for Altheatized: Funky Dance Aerobics
The music is fast, the attitude is funky, the moves are sexy. Althea brings the energy and excitement of club-style dance moves right into your living room. Rolling your shoulders and shaking your groove thing — you’ll be burnin’ fat and havin’ fun. Features both true club funk steps and funky versions of aerobic classics (e.g. a standard grapevine gets a lot sexier when you include a fluid hip sway and midsection body pump). It’s all remarkably do-able; Althea starts with the basics and then adds the attitude once you’ve gotten a feel for the move. She also intermixes short intensity bursts to make sure your heart rate always stays up. Solid ending floorwork. Vocal club, some techno, music. Not recommended for carpeted floors. ©2001. Altheatized: Funky Dance Aerobics

Difficult to Follow
This work out is pretty good but they never start off slow to show you what you should be doing. I thought it favored one side and wasn't an even work out. It looks like a lot of people enjoyed this work out but I didn't think it went together well. Althea is very motivating and she pumps you up. I felt the best part was the stretching. This is not one of my dance favorites. - posted by Angelia on 2/16/2009
Smile and Laugh Through Your Workout!
I really enjoyed this one, though I'm totally uncoordinated and had to concentrate hard on the choreography. I think the cueing is great, and Althea is very personable and warm. She really seems to be enjoying herself and wants you to have fun, too. Also, the one guy in the DVD cracks me up. His facial expressions are funny, and I really have a great time with this one. Hopefully I'll get a little better at the moves, though! - posted by Jamie on 11/16/2008
Fun and Effective
This is one of my favorite aerobic workouts, because I don't like traditional aerobic routines. My biggest gripe with aerobic workouts is usually the corny music, but this DVD has music that I would dance to outside of a workout (funky/house/club music). Althea's cuing is great, and the moves are challenging enough to not only cause you to work up a sweat, but to keep you coming back to "master" the routine. - posted by Delores on 2/17/2008
The most fun I've ever had!
I'm 38 and have been doing aerobic videos since I did them on vinyl. This is the most fun I have ever had doing a workout! I laughed out loud, I can't even believe how much I sweat, and I had a fabulous time. I highly highly recommend this! - posted by Andrea on 1/30/2008
Fun cardio
I got this workout in hopes of saving money on gas going to the gym during the week by doing my cardio workouts at home, while getting back into shape after several months off. I really enjoyed this workout. Althea's personality, cueing and the choreography make this workout go by quickly. Though the toning section was short, I thought it was pretty effective and, after doing the video for the first time, I had sore quads the next day from the squat section. - posted by cutielocks08 on 8/9/2007
A Great Dance Workout
This workout was wonderful. After working out at Gold's Gym I became really addicted to a cardio dance group exercise class. Unfortunately I can't always make it to the gym when the class is offered. Therefore, I've been searching for a cardio dance video that I can do at home. I have one from the Firm which is ok. After reading the reviews for Altheatized I decided to purchase it. I am so happy that I did. This workout is challenging (you can make it as easy or difficult as you like). I never found myself looking at the time. In fact I was amazed that the time had passed so quickly. The choreography isn't that difficult and she does a good job with cueing. I would definitely recommend this video. - posted by Erica on 6/28/2007
LOVE this one!!!!
Despite having little rhythm, I had so much fun with this workout. It went so fast because it was so fun, and I was totally sweaty and invigorated by the end. - posted by Patty on 6/2/2007
Fun Dancy Workout
I don't bother to rate stuff too often but this workout deserves it. This one is a lot of fun and not boring. If you like dancing, you'll like this. The choreography is great and Althea is a hoot. - posted by April on 5/27/2007

FUN and GREAT WORKOUT!
I've had this DVD now for over a month or so. I consider myself to be advanced with my workouts, and have to say that this is soooo much fun and really gets your heartrate up (if you're advanced, you have to accentuate certain parts of the workout). They are all 'normal' (meaning non-model) looking people on this dvd which makes it kind of neat... and ALTHEA IS AWESOME! She has such positive energy and is extremely motivating!!!! It's one of my FAVORITE workouts!! I only have DANCE workouts and this is awesome! - posted by Josephine on 4/10/2007
Great Workout!
I have been doing dance video workouts for about 2-3 years now and this is my favourite! I love the way she makes it so much fun, the music and the dance moves. It was a novel and challenging work out. She's loads of fun to work with and have a good workout with. Hope she keeps them coming! - posted by Ero on 5/17/2006

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Chapter menus
X
You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
