The Firm: Super Body Sculpt |
Do-able without the Fanny Lifter |
| I love the Firm workouts but don't like all the extra equipment they market with it. I don't own the FL and don't intend to get one. I work out in my basement which has a very low ceiling and I'm 5'8" so I have to be careful when doing overhead anything, especially if it's on a step. Anyway, I put my step on two risers, turned it perpendicular to the TV and stood behind it so I was working off the short end. This did just fine for all the dips, lunges and pushups. Then I found my kids' stepstool and that was perfect for all of the seated work. So the DVD is completely adaptable to my environment and I applaud that. Stephanie is very low-key, her voice is steady and soothing and it would be nice if she "broke character" and cracked a joke or two, but all in all this was a good solid workout and I'll definitely return to it. - posted by Sue on 10/9/2009 |

    It's a good workout, but probably won't be a favorite |
| I have had this DVD sitting around in my collection since I bought this on the infomercial along with the BSS2 Fanny Lifter Series. Now I will do my best to be fair here. For 40 minutes it's a good workout with weight training-only exercises. The last 10 minutes of the DVD is dedicated to Abs (some will hurt if you have low back problems like me) so 30 minutes is toning-only. Now with that said, I feel that Body Sculpt Blaster w/ Nancy Tucker is a much better workout and much more fun, although Stephanie is a great lead. The difference bwt this one and BSB is that this works upper and lower body separately instead of combining them w/Compound and Isolation movements. I felt my muscles working with this DVD, no doubt, but it just wasn't as much fun as BSB. I have been down-graded to a high-beginner level due to many months off of exercise and I do think this one is rated appropriately. It can easily be made more advanced by adding more weights. True "Advanced" lifters will see this less challenging even with much heavier weights as only 1 set of each exercise is performed except push ups, those are 2. Lower body is tough! There is no true break or stretching in bwt the segments like with the upper body. My legs were toast and I used no weights...again due to being more beginner now. This is a workout that will produce results and will really build up your muscle endurance. You climb the tall box for 1 set, then do Leg press with the Tall box once. Otherwise a couple of lower body exercises are combined. I will continue to use this workout, but I will end up using BSB, Total Sculpt, Hi-Def, ect, more often. I want to get to the point of using 20-25 lbs for my heavy weights and doing that on the fanny lifter will make for a really "lifted" fanny. Would I buy this DVD again, yes...but I would buy other ones again first. I have gotten used to alternating upper and lower body as it gives the muscles and mind a break. SO bwt Cathe and other Firm DVDs, I enjoy those more. It's a good, sweaty workout, but it just wasn't as fun as I would have hoped. Basically I made it though, had my body aching, but walked away unenthused or excited to do it again anytime soon. I have never felt that way about any DVD with Stephanie before. - posted by Julia on 10/5/2009 |

    A Classic |
| You can't go wrong with this one. Beautifully produced, well thought-out, thorough workout, great instructor. Goes slow enough that you can go heavy with the weights. - posted by Barbara U. on 8/26/2009 |

    Good Intermediate Workout |
| I like both lower and upper body workouts. My fanny has been hurting for 2 days now. Stephanie is pleasant to follow along. The only problem I had with the DVD was that it doesn't have a menu option. you can't go to the specific workout you would like to go to. Play is the only option and so you have to fast forward to get to where you want to go (like if it was a VHS tape). - posted by Miriam on 6/10/2009 |

    Good workout |
| I love the whole BSS1 series-but never had this one because I felt it would be too similar to Body Sculpt with Jen Carmen from the infomercial set of three. But I like Stephanie so much as an instructor and this is a 40 min workout that when I saw it recently for a low price I had to get it. I have liking the fanny lifter again after a long hiatus in the corner of my dining area! I have been using a lot of the fanny lifter workouts lately and hve been really liking it. This is a good workout for upper, lower and quick abs! - posted by Tracy on 6/10/2009 |

41 Years Old and I've Owned and Used This for YEARS! |
| I just happened to be searching tonight to see if anyone is still using this DVD and what people are saying about it. I bought the whole The Firm system back when it came with the original fanny lifter, and every time I think it's time to move on to something new, I can't. It's the ONLY DVD and equipment I use - absolutely nothing else, because it's that effective. When it gets too easy, just add some more weight. It's a quick but seriously effective workout.
And if you don't believe what they say about visible results in 10 workouts, do what I did. Take a photo of yourself (camera phone will do) nude from the back, front and sides. Then commit yourself to following your 10 day plan and take new photos. I knew I was feeling stronger, but really seeing it and having visual proof to motivate you is all you're going to need to keep moving.
I'm 5'3" and when I started out, I never thought I'd be curling 5 lb. weights, not to mention 10 lbs., but when you see how good your shoulders look in a t-back shirt in just a few hours a week, and you don't even have to leave your home or look cute in a gym? Please! I wouldn't bother going to a gym even if I were driven in a limousine. This is easy enough for beginners and can satisfy even more advanced users with limited time by just upping the weights.
If you're committed, you can't go wrong with this one. I really can't say enough about this DVD. For the price and what you get, you can't beat it. - posted by Patricia on 2/22/2009 |

    Excellent! |
| Uses light, medium, and heavy weights for total body sculpting. You can increase the challenge by increasing the weight. This workout leaves me feeling strong and energized! - posted by Joy on 1/19/2009 |

    For the uncoordinated |
| I really like The Firm, but I am so uncoordinated. I get really frustrated and quit after a few days. This is my favorite of all of The Firm videos because you don't have to be a super "dancer" to do it. When I don't have a lot of time I do either the upper body section or the lower body. If I do both together I work up a really good sweat. I never do all three in one day. I save the abs for its own day so I am not too tired to do it correctly. Since the abs section is only nine minutes, I usually do it twice. - posted by Dee on 12/6/2008 |

Nice workout, mostly intermediate I thought |
| I agree with the reviewer who thought this workout was mostly intermediate. As an advanced exerciser it was a good workout for a day when I didn't want to really push myself. I did workup a good sweat and it was only 40 minutes long, good for when my time is shorter. I thought the abs section was good as far as it went but was not long enough. (My belly is my trouble area so I really need a tough and long ab workout so I'll just do more ab exercises on my own.) I do mostly like the firm workouts, it is nice they always put a good focus on the beginner showing them what to do so they can use the workout too. I think their best workouts are the dance workouts. Very fun and doable. - posted by Sassy on 7/23/2008 |

A no-nonsens, get the job done sculpting workout! |
| This is a great workout. The exercises for both the upper & lower body are simple, basic, straight forward exercises that work every muscle. You'll definitely feel a burn. Stephanie has great cuing so the workout is easy to follow. It goes at a nice slow pace so you can really heavy up & there are enough reps to fatigue your muscles. The only drawback for me (I think someone also mentioned this)is the only exercise for the chest are push-ups. I like to do pec flies or chest presses to work my chest. So I just sub one of those exercises for the first or second set of push-ups. I feel this workout can challenge you for years to come. As you get stronger--increase the weight. You can't go wrong with this one! - posted by Carol on 7/9/2008 |
