Time graph for Tamilee's Tighter Assets Cardio Blast

A surprisingly challenging short workout by the 1993 IDEA Instructor of the Year (and the first “Buns of Steel” video star). This program just never slows down — from the fast-paced warm-up right through the extra-intense “cardio blasts” (explosive plyometric hops and jumps). Throughout, there’s a special focus on contracting your abs to build core strength and improve balance. Tamilee consistently cues ahead, so you’ll always know what’s coming. And she uses well-structured progressions so you’ll always have a familiar “base move” to return back to. Quick-tempo music, a bright set and excellent production. DVD includes a “bonus” 10-minute buns workout. ©2002. (35 min.). DVD has: Chapter menus, Music only option.

Tamilee's Tighter Assets Cardio Blast

I loved it
I'm 4'11" and weighed 115 when I started preparing for my first figure competition. I used this workout regularly, and found that I burned 400-450 calories (I use a Polar heart rate monitor). You do get what you put into it, though (I've also burned 300 calories doing it) - you must hold in your stomach, you must squat deeply, you must use bursts of energy when jumping - you have to follow her advice. I like Tamilee a lot because she's not hypey, and she's not out of breath when she talks. I love her voice and I love her confidence. She also knows that you'll be using this workout over and over, so she keeps intro comments to a minimum. There's nothing worse than hearing useless intro info during every workout, as if it were the first time seeing the video. She reminds you of the form of the exercise, and that's about all I want to hear during each workout. The music is good, the cues are good. I think it's the best cardio workout I own. I've found - what works for me is a short, effective cardio workout, great music, good cues and lots of calorie burning - and this is it! - posted by Alisa on 1/29/2009
Agreed - you get out of it what you put in
Agree with other reviewers that you get out of this one what you put into it, but you really can challenge yourself by trying to maintain a high intensity and really flex during the aerobics moves. The music and setting are great. Tamilee has great cuing, moves are easy to learn and follow. By the time one set is getting boring, you're onto the next one. A great quickie workout and I'd highly recommend to anyone who can't get in a 40+ minute cardio session. - posted by Brittany on 1/25/2009
Great Time Saver- Works Cardio, Core & Balance
Great when you need a timesaving cardio workout that is capable of working cardio, core and balance all while standing. I also like the fact that it has an interval training effect with the cardio bursts of activity. Will add to my rotation on days where I dont have 60 min or more to devote to working out. - posted by Nancy on 1/17/2009
Alltime Favorite
I have had this video for YEARS and have tried many others from many other instructors. This one is without a doubt my alltime favorite! It is only 30 minutes but a great workout for this 41 year old. It is true of any exercies video that you get out of it what you put into it. You can make it easier or harder. It has become like an old friend and has produced results for me more than once. - posted by Viv on 12/12/2008
Its all in the effort
I had this dvd for 2 years now and I use it at least twice a week. If you really move your body and lift those arms and legs you will sweat a good amount. Its all abut the energy and effort you put in this dvd. Tammie Lee may be a tad bit showoffy but who cares. Id show off to a bit if my body looked that good at her age. - posted by Dee Dee on 11/11/2008
Boy, is she annoying!
Well, I wanted a short cardio workout, and this sort of works (though it is not that challenging). But I just won't do it again because she is so irritating! there's a bit too much of the "Vanna White", ta-da, look at me, stuff. Sorry, not for me. - posted by Joanna on 6/12/2008
eh.
I felt let down by this one too, because it IS titled inter/advanced and I felt like it was beginner. True that you can make it a little more intense if you alter the moves yourself to jump more and make it more up tempo, but as-is, it's not what I would expect for inter/advanced. I would use this workout as an add-on as well, but it's not even that interesting that it occurs to me to add it on usually. - posted by Amber on 6/8/2008
Good as an add on
I add this on to another hi/lo workout because it is not enough for me- I consider myself advanced but I do like the moves in this workout, especially the plyometrics and the plyo "holds" which really focus on the core. There is also a bonus buns toning workout, I believe it is 10 minutes which is really good! The moves are very easy to follow and I usually keep it at a higher level the whole time instead of slowing down when they do- just to keep my heart rate up. - posted by Mandee on 3/28/2008
You can get out if it what you put into it.
First, I have to comment on the reviews saying that it's not advanced and that it's more for beginners... No, it's not advanced, but it's not tagged as such, so you can really ignore that comment. And, I think this is marked appropriately if you put everything you have into it. I would recommend (as with any video) that you try it more than once... maybe a few times, to get the moves down. Also, I recommend that you pay close attention to Tamilee's instruction and really "tighten" up your muscles when she tells you too... once you have the routine down and really go for it, this video is definitely upper intermediate to Int/Adv level. I recommend it and think it's a lot of fun! - posted by ceth on 2/22/2008
Not much of a challenge.
I can't believe this is listed as inter/advanced! I got it and did it several times but eventually sold it because it wasn't challenging enough. While I'm fit and work out every day, I am not like those of you who do Cathe and are genuinely fitness divas! I have Amy Bento's hi/lo video, and I can only do the easy version (half hour)! This video is fine, but nothing special, fun, or exciting. I would rate it beginner to low intermediate. - posted by Holly on 2/14/2008

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
