Certified instructor description:
Blends the energy and excitement of hip hop with the sensuality and fluidity of Latin dance. Gloria Quinlan makes it all easy-to-follow with clear hand/verbal cuing and a very non-intimidating attitude (“feel the rhythm; now put your own personality into these moves”). By moving on the downbeat and using “lite hip hop” instrumental music, this workout feels more like a dance party than a standard eight-count aerobics class. Includes some hops, twists and turns that may be difficult on carpeted floors (but one exerciser always shows an easier, lower-impact option). ©2003. DVD has: Chapter menus, Narrow screen.

Tru 2 Form Urban Heat Hip Hop

Yes and No
I bought this DVD as a 2-CD set. This is the earlier one that Gloria made. There is also one in my set from a couple years later called Urban Beat, that I don't believe is on CollageVideo.com. Anyway, Gloria is a really great instructor. The way she explains everything makes it very clear what to do and how to do it. This is a very good thing, because the previous posters were right about the camera angles. It is the worst camerawork I've ever seen. They keep shooting the background dancers' faces right as Gloria introduces new moves or at any crucial moment. Also, these are bar none the worst backup dancers I've ever seen. I literally busted out laughing the first time I watched it. That being said, I'm glad I bought it because it really is fun and I like the moves and music. You have to work at it to make it aerobically-challenging though. She breaks everything down so you really know how to do the moves, but it also causes the heart rate to drop. FYI - on HER OTHER hip-hop dvd (Urban Beat) the camerawork is better, and so are the background dancers. They also put all the moves into a routine at the end. This dvd doesn't. That didn't bother me though, because I actually like the moves better on this first one. - posted by Cary on 6/16/2007

Fun
I felt I needed to vidicate this DVD after the bashing the previous reviews had given. The "boring 10-15 second" screen shots only last for a split second, and if you keep your groove going during them, you do work up a sweat. I didn't find the camera angles wierd, or anything confusing, it just takes doing a few times to get it. It is worth the money, and she is a good instructor. I am a certified fitness instructor. - posted by Lori on 6/29/2006
Camera doesn't focus on feet
This video is hard to follow because of the camera's annoying habit of focusing on the face of one of the dancers instead of on the instructor's feet. Otherwise it would be a fun workout. - posted by Carol on 3/30/2006
It's not heart-pumping, it's just frustrating. Don't bother.
This workout is no workout at all. The 35 minutes is broken up into about 5 segments, each approximately 5 minutes long. After each segment there's a good 10 to 15 seconds where the only thing happening is a static screen shot. I never keep moving long enough to keep my heart rate up or to even break a sweat. And just when you get into the groove of the movements, she stops and moves on (making you wait that 15 seconds for the screen shot first). Even worse, she never puts all the moves together into one routine. I love the moves but I hate the way this DVD is put together. It makes no sense whatsover to keep stopping the workout for an inane screen shot and to never tie the moves together. Consider this: this gal wears a sweater through the whole thing. How hard can she be working Her outfit is so baggy you can barely see the details of what she's doing with her body. One last comment: sometimes the camera frustratingly focuses on the wrong body parts when she's instructing. She might be talking about what your shoulders should be doing and the camera is on their feet!If you want an exercise in frustration, buy this tape; otherwise skip it. Tru2Form (producers of the DVD) take note. - posted by Susan on 6/10/2004
Great for Dance Moves, Not so Great for Workout
I think this is a fun video for anyone who likes to dance. It gets more fun as you do it because you learn the steps. I only have one problem and that is that I did not feel very worked out after this video. I usually do this video before another video as an extended warm-up. - posted by Brittany Davidson on 4/21/2004
Thank you
I just love this video!! it is alot of fun and it really makes exercising so easy because you feel like you aren't exercising until its over and your dripping with sweat. Gloria is the BOMB!!! - posted by Arthur Hiley on 12/2/2003
Really Fun!
This is an extremely fun workout!! This would be great for days you aren't in the mood for a strenous workout. I agree that it is begin/inter level. I agree that this is truly a dance workout. Don't look for any traditional aerobic moves because you won't find them. It's purely dance from warm-up to cool down. I HIGHLY recommend this to someone who wants a fun all dance workout and someone who wants to pick up a few new moves for the dance floor!!! - posted by Tara on 9/23/2003
Sure to become a favorite
Not only is Gloria a great dancer, she is a great instructor. The way she breaks down moves makes them doable for anyone. It's a fun video. I would highly recommend it. - posted by lynn on 9/22/2003
Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.
sample time graph
Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Chapter menus
X
You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
Narrow screen
X
When played on a widescreen TV, this program will show black bars on the left and right sides. On an older 4x3 ratio TV, it will fill the entire screen.
