Certified instructor description: A “classic” Firm workout with the legendary structure, fast pace and challenge of the original “Firms.” It’s effective and tough — most routines integrate intense muscle-toning within the higher-impact cardio (e.g. double jacks as you do bicep curls, squats as you do French presses). Using film from “Power Cardio,” a never-released 1999 production, this smooth-flowing program has the Firm’s original mansion set, large class and jazz-style music. The ending body-sculpting segment incorporates a variety of positions, techniques and equipment. Two sets of dumbbells and a 14" Fanny Lifter, or high-step, is required (a regular step will also work). A 2-lb. medicine ball, ankle weights and a barbell are optional. Does not use the Firm’s new Sculpting Stick. Led by Dale Brabham. ©2003. DVD has: Narrow screen, Close captions.

The Firm: Calorie Killer 2

Excellent Workout!
I really like this workout a lot. It's a no nonsense workout and gets right to the point. There is a mix of floor aerobics, work with the tall box, weights, plyo moves and floor work. It does move quickly so make sure you are ready or just do what I do and have your dvd remote near to pause it lol. It is a great workout and Dale's body is amazing! It is in a good time length too. I really enjoy this workout. It hits all of the body parts. My shoulders particularly were sore after this one. It is one of my go to workouts. I love it! - posted by Staci on 1/13/2013
Horrible!
This is not an Advanced workout. It is too easy and the choreography is very hard to follow. If you want a really good cardio workout, try one of Cathe Friedrich's videos. Much more advanced and easier to follow. - posted by Rachel on 10/26/2009
good tape for "in between" days
Dale's cueing is excellent, but there isn't enough time to change weights, or set up/move the box at times. Didn't like the music too much. Not as challenging as some of the other cardio or weight oriented videos, but it's still a good video for "in-between" days when you don't feel quite up to super hard cardio, or lugging all your weights out. I like Dale alot as an instructor. - posted by liz on 11/4/2008

LOVE IT!
I have several of The Firm workouts and they all top my list of favorites. This one is a really good blend of cardio and toning...well cued and easy to follow after a time or two. I'm always looking for something that will give me a really good workout in under an hour and this one fits the bill! - posted by Elaine on 1/9/2007
keeping it
I just bought this DVD. I am definitely going to keep it. Dale is a favorite. It is quite high impact and fast. My workouts lately have been quite sporadic so I wasn't able to keep up. This was previously released at Power Cardio. - posted by Nancy on 7/17/2006
This is great. Have all three Firm Cardio tapes.
I purchased this last fall and I like it a lot. I also have Burn and Maximum and the three make for a great cardio stressed rotation. - posted by Michelle on 5/22/2006
Great workout
The original calorie killer stinks and is likely to put you to sleep. To each his/her own but I thought this was a demanding well cued workout and probably the last "new" decent DVD the Firm/Good Times will release. - posted by Allie P on 9/24/2005
A very good workout
I think this is a good, solid cardio workout. (i'm an interm./adv. exerciser) The sections w/weights still keep my heart rate up and the all cardio sections make me sweat - more so than the original calorie killer, in fact - (altho I also like that w/o). I like to use it on a day when I want to feel like i burned some calories but don't have an hour or more to workout. For less than an hour, though, my favorite is still cardio burn. :) - posted by Diane A. on 6/9/2005
Classic Firm re-released
I never bought this video when it was first released, so I am grateful for being able to get a copy on DVD now. The time flies by in this workout, and you get a good dose of cardio. The majority of the weight work seems to be thrown in simply to help keep your heartrate up, while the rest (where you would use heavy weights) just seems like a tease. It still follows the classic Firm idea of aerobic weight training - but the emphasis is on cardio. - posted by Lulu Belle on 4/19/2005
Just not for me...
I am a huge fan of the FIRM, have been since I began it a year ago. But this workout just doesn't satisfy me. I DO get a sweaty workout from this but I just don't enjoy it as much as my other firms. I am now wishing I hadn't spent my money on this one and had purchased a different "older" firm instead. - posted by Michigan Firmie on 7/10/2004

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Narrow screen
X
When played on a widescreen TV, this program will show black bars on the left and right sides. On an older 4x3 ratio TV, it will fill the entire screen.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Step aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The step aerobics segments involve stepping up and down on a platform. The moves range from simple stepping to more choreographed exercises. These segments require a step bench platform. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
