Certified instructor description: Exceptionally well-cued, it’s fast, fun and very dancy (Best Ever Step Training) . You’ll burn fat with a creative medley of layers and options, turns and directional changes (along with mambos and cha chas, wizards and boomerangs, box steps and ponies). It’s high-energy, non-stop movement, but you’re never out-of-control — each combo always builds on the previous one in a smooth, natural progression. Patrick’s instruction is great; his infectious enthusiasm blends with his clear cuing to make it all very do-able (but maybe not the first time through ). ©2003. DVD has: Chapter menus, Narrow screen.

Patrick Goudeau's B.E.S.T. Workout

Too Much Step Breakdown
This video is pretty fun; however, Patrick just seems to break the steps down so much that it becomes more difficult than it should be. Most of the step learning could be put in a tutorial chapter. That would leave more to-the-point, fun stepping and less "layering". - posted by Mel on 1/10/2010
Best step I've ever done!
It is complex, it is hard, but it's worth every minute. It has taken me weeks to learn every single step but I have had a blast and gotten a great workout the whole time I've been trying. I am at least 60# overweight but trying to find new things to get me in shape. I am always amazed at the stuff I can now do. I can keep up with the turns and find the whole thing very fun. If you don't like complex, skip this DVD. Keeping boredom at bay is a huge challenge for home exercisers, this won't happen with this DVD. I love Patrick, I look forward to buying many, many more of his DVDs. I turn up the sound loud, clear the room, and Patrick, Carrie, Nico, and I have a workout party! - posted by Amy on 2/20/2009
Noboby does it like Patrick!
I have been stepping for over 10 years and he is the BEST I have ever come across. Yea, he's very advanced. It's that simple. But if you wanna be the BEST you have to work with the BEST! You can't get it on the first time but if you take a class that you get completely the first time, I guarantee it consists of nothing more that repeater knee's and across the tops. My only change to any of his videos is that he would put me in them :-). That would be a dream come true! I will say in agreement, however, that the lighting in this video is a bit difficult to absorb. Great job Patrick! Keep 'em comming! - posted by Meaghan on 3/23/2008
Some good, some bad
I really liked the production and lighting and all that, but I'm a fan of videos that have a bit of MTV flair to them. However, like everyone else has said here, the choreography is really tricky. I usually like this sort of thing (Christie Taylor is my favorite) but Patrick's cueing is not very good. Here's an illustration: If there is an A-B-C-D sequence, I need all the parts cued, not just the first - especially when it's only the 2nd or 3rd time we've done it! I might give it a couple more tries, but fumbling around confused doesn't give me much of a workout. - posted by tory on 8/30/2007

Have Fun While You Work Out
I LOVE this workout! It took me three times to learn all the moves, but I had fun doing it and the sweat poured. Once you get it down, you'll have a blast because it keeps you thinking and moving. Patrick is very "up-beat", has a nice voice, beautiful smile, and is entertaining--(Note: He doesn't say annoying or dorky things). His moves are unlike any other instructor; that's what I like most . . . he's different. I do this workout over and over and can't wait to buy my next video of his. Trust me, you'll love it, if you give it a chance. It's difficult at first, but will rapidly become a favorite. Don't be a quitter, and you'll be rewarded. - posted by Lamb4Loan on 8/3/2006
Complicated yes.. good workout debatable...
I have been stepping for about a decade now, and enjoy complicated choreography. This is my first Patrick Goudeau workout, and I must say that I keep winding up with a heartrate way below my target rate and just total frustration by the speed in which he introduces new steps. I think a bit more repitition before "add-ons" would be helpful. I feel like as soon as I even start to get the hang of one move, he's adding on or changing it or adding razzle dazzle... Argh. I haven't gotten past the wizard yet, and don't feel much desire to put in all the effort for so few calories burned. Perhaps there is an easier to follow Patrick video which would help this one to make a bit more sense - posted by winobia on 3/25/2006
Big Patrick fan, but this is not one of his best
I own all of the G-Force workouts and Step My Way. I am usually quick at picking up advanced choreography, but I just cannot get this one down. I shelved this workout, too difficult to learn and keep up with this one. Buy step My Way instead. Advanced but easier to learn and less frustrating. - posted by Jill on 12/30/2005
His creative choreography is worth it!
Okay, the lighting is migraine-producing. The music isn't wonderful, even the sound is bad sometimes. However, Patrick's unique, fun and flowing choreography MAKES UP FOR IT ALL! It's so much fun. If I can't do a tape perfectly, I like that because I'm getting my money's worth. I won't saturate the tape after two showings and get tired of it. Patrick is great, and I want more! - posted by Gwenyth on 3/16/2005
So much Fun!
I have so much fun everytime I do this video. It took me quite a few times to get the moves but that's what keeps it interesting, isn't it. I think Patrick has very cool moves and contrary to most other reviewers, I thought the music was cool, too. - posted by Michelle on 2/5/2005
Hey, what's wrong with his hair
I saw this video for the first time a couple of weeks ago and I said to myself "Best Workout Best Instructor". I never give up on something, so about a week later I gave it another try and I put the TV volume up a notch. Boy did that help! Yes it's more dancy than most step tapes I own. Most of the moves made more sense. Sometimes we need to listen a little more and watch a little more closely instead of just doing the moves. You need your eyes and ears on this one and you have to think a little more (I guess you can say mental workout). It's not a sweat pouring workout, but if you like dancy step moves, this is the tape to get. And I think Patrick's hair is neat-it's different, but so what - posted by Denise on 1/23/2005

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
