Certified instructor description: A glamorous, very high-energy workout that includes four Latin dances and ends with straight-forward toning. You’ll burn fat and have fun as you learn the Merengue, Cha Cha, Samba and Mambo. It’s taught by the TV show’s star instructors — Cheryl Burke and Maksim Chmerkovsky (so you’ll see both male and female teaching styles). You’ll learn the base steps, then add some optional directional and movement variations (or you can stick with the base move to keep your heart rate elevated). Note: more “workout-focused” than the original video; it has more repetitions and smoother transitions. Not recommended for carpeted floors. ©2008. DVD has: Programmable chapters, Narrow screen, Close captions.

Dancing with the Stars: Latin Cardio Dance

DWTS
As a big fan of DWTS I could find no faults with this video. I am not a dancer so some of the moves are a little challenging and frustrating but with perseverance I get most of it. Great Video. - posted by Juliana on 1/3/2012
BORING!!
I have never done a more boring workout in my over 50 years of working out and dancing. The title should be can any cast member be more bored. Unless you're a professional ballroom dancer, some of the steps are too hard to follow. There is no instruction, just copy these movements. The dancers look so bored that I felt sorry for them, very little workout potential except for the toning section. - posted by Jeanne on 1/2/2012
Latin Cardio Dance
Cheryl and Maksim are my favorite stars. I love it, so fun to exercise, very good muscle toning and cardio/aerobics program. - posted by Aina Kim on 2/17/2011
I love Latin dancing
This is a very good video for someone that has never taken Latin dance lessons before. The moves were very easy to follow. It's a fun workout. I usually combine this workout with another toning workout. - posted by Kirsten on 11/27/2010
AN OK workout.
I do watch DWTS and admire both of the instructor's dancing ability, but they could have done a better job of instructing. It was like they were both uncomfortable instructing in front of the camera. Kathy Smith taught many of the same dance moves in her Latin Rhythm and Moves workout and did a much better job of it. Still, once you get going this is kind of fun. I especially enjoyed the Mambo section. For people who hate complex choreography, this is perfect. And if the instructors really annoy you, you can always do the "music only" option. I also like that it's programmable. The time went by quickly; before I knew it, the workout was over. - posted by carole on 6/26/2010
"I Love It"
I have had this work-out for a little while and finally I got around to actually doing it. I like it….No, I love it!!!!! . I like it so much that I immediately purchased the dance workout, and I intend to purchase the other two Dancing with the Stars workouts that will be available for purchase in December. I don’t watch the television program very much, so I was excited about this exercise program. At first some of the steps were hard to master. However, it gave me something to work forward to and now I’ve got it! The first time as I was doing this workout, I thought about a friend of mine who was never really into exercising. She took up line-dancing classes. She lost 20 pounds in about 2 months. She looks so good and her skin makes her look 10 years younger. Well, we all know that line dancing is not strenuous. My friend said that in her classes, they stress the importance of just moving your joints around. I think it was the magnificent Gilad that said in one of his workouts something to the effect of - if you don’t movet, you “rust”.!!!!! I am excited about any exercise that emphasizes the abs and the core. I am basically a thin person , but, the core is an area that could always use something extra. This exercise does not have you pouring sweat, but, in this case I am not looking to do that. The toning section is particularly good.. I am still so amazed at how these instructors find different ways to work the body. That is why it is important to have a variety to go back and forth with. The dancing just relaxes you and makes you feel good and beautiful ( even with curlers at 6 AM). I used to get dizzy doing the turns in exercise. Now it is a piece of cake. I just wish that I could exercise in my high heels like the girls do on the video, but, I will leave that to the professionals. Well, I giving this 5 stars because it is helping me to reach my goals. - posted by Nancy on 10/22/2009
A Disappointment
I tried to like this DVD but it was simply too slow and boring. The first Dancing W/ the Stars DVD is better. - posted by Nina on 4/20/2009
Terrific! I am sweating 10 minutes into it...
Low impact aerobic programs bore me after the first few times and I wanted to have fun burning calories. This DVD teaches basic steps and burns calories! I found it easier to follow after the first few attempts. I enjoyed the repetitive steps, giving me a chance to really learn them and memorize them. This is great for those who have sit down jobs and want to lose back and belly fat. I am very pleased with my purchase! - posted by Dee on 3/25/2009
very disappointing!
I love the show, but this was the most boring workout ever. It is the only DVD I have ever returned. Max seems bored himself and does not motivate. This one made me want to take a nap. The other unusual part is that Max includes push ups and other moves in the cooldown/stretch that would be more appropriate for a toning section. I have over 100 exercise DVD's and have never seem a cooldown like this. I was being kind by giving one star! - posted by Linda on 10/10/2008
Latin Dance Cardio
This dvd is good if you want to learn basic latin dance. Dont expect a lot of cardio and sweating. If you want to learn latin dance you should take a class. I would say its more of a light toning video. Its fun to use on your toning days or lazy days. If you want more toning wear one to two inch heels. You are using a lot of abs and lower body. I liked this DVD because it was customizable (you can choose to do 40 minutes of dancing and/or 15 minutes of toning with a 5 minute warm-up option) and I like a longer workout. What I did not like about the DVD is: 1) I thought that the instruction was just okay. Not enough advanced warning as to what was coming up next. Now we'll do a cha-cha and "GO"! 2) Thought the instructors were not as "fun" as the first DWTS DVD. They were monotone and looked like they were bored. 3) I wish the dance could have been 15 minutes instead of 10. - posted by Glossy01 on 9/28/2008

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Programmable chapters
X
At the beginning of your workout, you can select the exact segments you want to play that day. The DVD will then play all those segments in the order you chose.
Narrow screen
X
When played on a widescreen TV, this program will show black bars on the left and right sides. On an older 4x3 ratio TV, it will fill the entire screen.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Aerobics & Toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
