Time graph for The Firm: Total Body Makeover
Four compact workouts — cardio, toning and two aero/tone interval workouts. Used together, these complementary programs provide everything you need for a true “total body makeover.” The aerobic workout combines dance and fitness; it’s taught with a fun, party-style approach. The toning program blends Firm exercises with Pilates in distinct standing and floorwork segments. The two aero/tone workouts include separate aerobics and toning intervals plus classic Firm toning-within-the-aerobics sequences. DVD requires 2 to 10 lb. dumbbells; it comes with a resistance band. ©2009. Note: This is a compilation of “Express” programs originally released in 2007 & 2008. DVD has: Region 1.

The Firm: Total Body Makeover

A worthwhile purchase giving value for money
I'm an advanced exerciser, and have welcomed this dvd into my rotation. I think workouts of all different lengths have a valid place, and I value these workouts because they can be slotted in after a very challenging and shorter workout, and keep me moving and doing a workout that will add value. I like the four packs because I travel for work, and having dvds with multiple workouts allows me to minimize my luggage. This allows me to have toning, cardio, balance and flexibility in the one disc. Very useful! On the specific workouts - I agree with the reviewer who remarked that the total body time crunch express workout does not, at 20 minutes, need five minutes of cooling down. I have the full workout for this, and the cool down does make sense for the longer version, but is odd in the express version. I enjoyed the pilates workout, with a Firm instructor I hadn't seen before, and particularly liked the standing pilates moves, which were new to me. Loved the hard core fusion - Allie del Rio never disappoints! Like other reviews, though, the cardio party is a favourite. I enjoy the interaction between the participants (although on one occasion, between Emily and Alison, it does seem a little forced), and they all seem to be having a good time - always a motivator for the home exerciser! It's a high energy workout, and I actually liked the fast-paced start from Alison (though I see another reviewer was not sold on this). I also enjoyed Allie's Latin fiesta at the end, although I am not keen on the drop in intensity that comes with the 'matador's snap'. I like to keep the pace up, especially in a short workout like this. But, overall, a good, versatile product that offers value for money and a lot of fun. - posted by Susan on 7/2/2010
Firm is Always Good
Good shorter workouts and also work well with doing 2 or 3 at the same session. I especially liked the dance party because it was fun. I am in good condition for 73 years. - posted by Ruth on 7/1/2010
Good workout, fast paced
This is a good workout, but was a little hard to follow with all the different moves. This is definitely for someone who has done a lot of aerobic classes and is familiar with all the terminology used. - posted by Ellen on 6/24/2010
The Firm Total Body Makeover
This video has a nice mix of workouts. These work when I have crunch time in the morning and I refuse to skip a workout. I have purchased many "The Firm" workouts and have been pleased with all of them. The only reason that I didn't give this one a five star, is that the last work out, "Cardio Party Express", starts out fast and continues this way through out the work out. I feel that there should be a more moderate start with a stretch and end with a nice cool down and stretch. Over all, I really like this video. - posted by Theresa on 4/22/2010
love hardcore fusion & cadio party
I really love hardcore fusion & cardio party, but I'm not in love with the pilates, a little too easy. Also, I wish the workouts were a little longer. By the time I workup a sweat, the segments over. But, I think it was worth the buy and I love the firm! - posted by Natalie Martin on 4/16/2010
great workout
I have a lot of workout videos and this has quickly become one of my favorites! I love that it's such a great mixture of weights, cardio, and pilates. It's also very easy to follow and because each one only lasts 25-35 minutes I don't get bored which I tend to do easily. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is, as with most workouts, every now and then when there's a step change the camera will stay a second too long on a face and not pull back to show the move, but I notice that happens in nearly every workout I watch, I'm picky. - posted by TONI on 4/5/2010
lots of fun
I loved the other Firm 4 pack so much I was really looking forward to this. I didn't realize the workouts were shortened versions of the originals. Nothing wrong with that, just unprepared. My favorite is Allie, she seems to have been freed to do her thing. Least favorite was Time Crunch. It's too short. Why do you need a 5 minute cooldown with a 20 minute workout. However, the info listed above is confusing. It should read 4, 2, 1, 3 as to the workouts on the DVD. - posted by Robin on 12/30/2009
What a gem!
I absolutely loved these workouts on this dvd and I loved the fact that they were all right around 30 minutes in length. On days when I am pressed for time, I can do one workout, or on days when I have more time I can do 2 of the workouts for a great 60 minute workout. I do need to mention, Collage is showing Total Body Time Crunch as aerobics & toning, and while the full length workout is aero/tone, this express workout on this dvd is toning only. It does start off with a 5 min. aerobic warm up, but the rest is all toning. So in short this DVD includes two toning workouts (Total Body Time Crunch, Sculpt-ilates), one aero/tone workout (Hard Core Fusion), and one strictly aerobics workout (Cardio Party). I also like how they edited out Annie's part in Cardio Party. I think she is adorable & great, but her section in that workout was out of place, in my opinion. Worth the great price - do add it to your collection! - posted by alivingroomathlete on 12/9/2009

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

X
This DVD is designed for US and Canadian DVD players. It will NOT play in most foreign country players.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

X
Workout 1: Moderate
Workout 3: Basic
Workout 4: Moderate
Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
