Ballet Body: Core Ultimate Tummy Tightener |
Like this in a different way |
| I have recently discovered barre exercise (most of them based on Lotte Berk's and Callanetics work) after having been a Jari Love and Kettlebell fan up till now. I stopped working out for about a year and a half and gained 2 clothes sizes and a tire around my middle and said, enough is enough. Somehow I stumbled on Pure Barre, and loved the physiques of women doing this stuff and realized thats exactly how I want to look, so I looked to see what collage offered in this line up.
To be honest, something about this dvd I just am not a fan of, but what I AM a fan of is the RESULTS. I don't get a warm and fuzzy feeling from this instructor, here or on her website, BUT this workout is a really good one. Because of that I also ordered her core training dvd.
I've been using these dvds, pure barre's mile high workout and physique 57's workout for three weeks (do each one once a week) and only for 30 min, and I am getting really good results. These workouts are not easy but they deliver pretty amazing results.
I also do a 15 min kettlebell circuit of my own before the 30 min barre workouts because I love kettlebells and will never give them up and because I want the extra fat burning, metabolism boosting that kettlebells deliver.
If you want a "barre body" this is a really good dvd to use. - posted by Theresa on 2/8/2013 |

Different than any other Barre |
| I'm a fitness instructor and it takes a lot to get me sore (I'm a cathlete too) I read the other reviews on this video they claim it was boring, bad cueing, blah blah, well to be honest with you I didn't find it fun (it's not Zumba) I found it EXTREMLY CHALLANGING and all I could think of was when is it going to be over my abs are numb, this rarely ever happens to me, I also tried the Legs to this series and it frys your legs, i couldn't walk (In a good way of course) I have to say I found another favorite (going next my cathe videos). - posted by Tammy on 1/24/2013 |

    Ab-solutely great! |
| This is a great workout video for me since I have so much ballet training. It uses very fluid movements and perked up music (instead of tinny piano music) to make this workout enjoyable and motivational. - posted by rumu on 1/3/2013 |

    Good exercises, poor production |
| This is a set of good and no doubt effective exercises that are pretty challenging. Leah Sarago does have a seriousness and intensity about her that will not appeal to all - I don't mind it that much. I assume the disembodied voiceover, as mentioned by others here, is perhaps a reasonable option for these kind of exercises. However, the set is not good, the camera angles make it hard for me to see exactly what she's doing and the most off-putting thing is the lighting. Shot in a strange kind of magenta gloom, Leah further confuses the already oddly angled camerawork by throwing shadows left, right and centre. This does happen on the other two workouts in the series, but seems to be more of a problem on the abs one. I like the exercises, but would use it more were it better lit and shot with a home viewer in mind. - posted by Pip on 11/2/2012 |

    cueing for alternatives |
| The problem that I had was with my head being off of the floor so much causing neck strain. We were only given alternative methods, if any, in the middle of the exercise. If there are alternative methods, it is good to know those right up front so you can adjust. Good ab exercises though. - posted by Cecilia on 10/18/2012 |

    Unmotivating |
| Yes, this DVD does work your abs. But the entire thing is so boring I could barely get through it. Personally, I do not like it when the instructor is off camera talking you through the workout. I assume the woman doing the actual workout is the instructor, which means the vocal part was taped at a different time. That being said, the two just do not fit well together. The cuing is awful and the instructor's lack of expression is anything but motivating. The workout has no flow and feels bland. I couldn't wait to pop it out of my DVD player and put it back in it's case. I immediately returned it. - posted by Shayanne on 9/17/2012 |

Interesting and effective, but not for me |
| Without a doubt, this video really does work your abs with some unique and truly effective moves that blend ballet, yoga, and pilates (all of which I love). I was sore the next day, and that is rare for me with abs. However, I found the video lacking in a few areas. First, there is very little in the way of warm-up, which is an issue for me, since I workout within 10 minutes of getting out of bed in the morning. I like a video with some flow in that area. Also, while the moves were effective, the video has a grueling feel to it. I was not at all excited to do it again, and I have some tough videos in my rotation. Leah could have put in some recovery-type moves, perhaps something flowing and stretchy (even if she had to lengthen the video a tiny bit). Last, and this is superficial, I didn't find Leah enjoyable as an instructor. She has a very serious, intense quality to her, which I personally didn't enjoy. That alone wouldn't be a deal-breaker for me, but combined with the other things I didn't like, this just wasn't for me. I ended up returning it. - posted by Rebecca on 7/6/2012 |

    Not a Good Fit |
| I was looking for an Ab intense DVD to work my midsection. When I saw this video, I thought it would be a good fit. Not only was it ab-specific, it also had some interesting, diverse exercises, something other than crunches to tone my abs. However, the DVD was disappointing. The fast-paced exercises were hard on my hip joints. I could not keep up with the pace without intense pain. No modifications were available. A slower, gentle version would have worked better for me. That said, it may work for you. - posted by Monica on 6/10/2012 |

    Oh Hello Abs! |
| I've been working out consistently for the past eight months and I've lost 20lbs total. When I tried this video it was HARD in such a good way. But because it was so hard, I don't think I would recommend it for beginners. But it's really an awesome video. It's helped trim my waistline (I've lost two inches there, using the ballet body series and running). One of my favorites. I've also noticed that this video goes by faster than some videos I own. It's supposed to be like an hour long, but I am so focused on targeting my abs that it feels like 30 minutes. - posted by Cara on 5/30/2012 |
