Certified instructor description: You get three updated workouts and their redesigned two-piece Fanny Lifter box (made of sturdy, lightweight polymers, it’s 14" x 14" on top and adjusts to 6, 8 and 14-inch heights). All three videos feature Firm master instructors, veterans from previous videos. But the setting and approach are completely contemporary — a bright, simplified studio and a friendly, personable attitude. “Cardio Sculpt” intermixes short, fast-paced aerobic segments within the surprisingly tough toning routines. It ends with challenging gluteal and ab work. The “Body Sculpt” video has 17 minutes of lower-body toning and 15 minutes of upper-body routines — do both segments together or on alternate days. “Ab Sculpt” works all four abdominal muscle groups in a compact 25-minute program. Each workout uses the Fanny Lifter to maximize results (e.g. it makes squats more targeted on the buttocks, ab crunches more intense). Intermediate/advanced level, but they do have one instructor showing easier modifications. Kit also includes a “30 Day Rotation” calendar and a small “Secrets to Success” booklet. Requires two to three sets of dumbbells (e.g. 3, 5 and 8 lbs.). ©2001. DVD has: Narrow screen.

The Firm: Body Sculpting System kit

Very well done!
I've used the Body Sculpting System DVD for almost three years. I constantly use these workouts. Especially when I feel less then inspired to workout (you know those days). I end up feeling good and more motivated. If you are new to the FIRM this would be a good set to start with. I am a FIRM believer so I admit my opinion is biased :). I've tried other DVDs and have either been bored or horrified due to the dangerous workouts which would result in injury. Is this DVD perfect - no. I too, fast forward on the ab workout since the warm up is a little long. Also, there is one section in cadrio scuplt that is a little awkward but that's it folks. I think most of you would enjoy this DVD set. Have Fun! - posted by Melinda on 7/23/2009
One of my favorite workouts ever!
I've had this since it came out. I got burned out from my local gym and after nine months of not working out, realized I was really out of shape. I've started my rotation of old DvD's for a couple of months, and I have been doing these three DvD's again for a month. I just LOVE everything about them. There isn't a second wasted, the cueing is flawless, the instructors are perfect. I love the fanny lifter and I am seeing results fast. Like a lot of others, I wish they'd make more fanny lifter workouts. I've also noticed the Firm works better when it is a series of three alternating DvDs. I always cross train to get the biggest benefits, but the Firm has done the work for me when they create a series. I like that. - posted by Lisa on 6/1/2009
This time I'm keeping it
I bought this set when it first came out and I used it a lot for a long time, then I moved on to more advanced workouts -- Cathe, etc. -- and I sold my BSS1 set. Recently I repurchased this set and I'm SO happy to have it back! It's like an old buddy. I went back to this set after becoming exhausted & stressed. Life got hectic, and even when I could find the time to workout I just could not dredge up the necessary energy to do most of the workouts in my collection -- so my workouts disappeared. I knew I had to do something, so I ordered Cathe's two intermediate workouts and repurchased BSS1 with the Fanny Lifter. My plan has worked perfectly! I eliminated the dread factor, I'm excited to workout again and I feel my energy coming back. I did cardio sculpt and body sculpt this week and I feel great. Lesson learned. I will get back to my advanced workouts again, but I will never again get rid of my BSS1 set. This time I'm keeping it. :) - posted by Marla on 5/10/2009
Cardio Sculpt
I bought the system (VHS tapes!) when it was offered in the infomercials, and it made me into an exerciser! While the other videos faded out of my rotation, I recently replaced my Cardio Sculpt tape with the DVD so that I wouldn't lose it. I think most of the Firm "accessories" are gimmicks, but that Fanny Lifter is the real deal. Some of the moves do seem a little dated, but they are still effective. I agree with other reviews that while there's not a lot of cardio, if you go all out you will keep your heart rate up all the way thru. Still a staple in my rotation after all these years! - posted by Kim on 4/28/2009
Addictive!
I tried this workout about 6 years ago when my then-roommate introduced me to it. A few months later I bought my own and to this day its still prominent in my exercise rotation. On the strength of this system, I have bought a number of Firm systems and videos, yet this one remains my favorite. Allie Del Rio's Cardio Sculpt is my absolute favorite in this system. I was never fit or sporty in my youth; I was one of those kids who talked their way out of all phys. ed. classes. But the cardio and weight training intervals in this video were mixed well so I didn't get bored or overly fatigued. Trite as it may sound, I saw results after 10 workouts... Me! I couldn't believe it. I have weighted up on many of the exercises since I first tried it, so it's still a challenge for me. I find the cardio segments really fun and I find the instructor engaging. I also still use Lisa Kay's Ab Sculpt and Jen Carman's Body Sculpt at least once a week too, and they are both challenging and fun after many years of use. Body Sculpt is divided into lower body first and then upper body. It is great for those days where I am feeling really pumped and want a challenge or a burn, though she does a great job of mixing the exercises so right as you're thinking you can't go on, she gives you a break on that muscle group. Ab Sculpt is really peaceful and only 30 mins. It's a good mix of traditional crunches and alternative ab exercises and as a result, you don't notice how much work you're doing. It's very calming and the time just flies. Lisa Kay is a great instructor. All in all, I would give this system a big thumbs up and recommended it to anyone, beginners and athletes alike! I went from a long life of being a tubby smoker who loathed and avoided exercise, to being someone who sits in work daydreaming about getting to go home to do The Firm. I love the clean stylized look and the warm and engaging. - posted by Liz on 3/31/2009
This is still my favorite...
I actually loved this set so much I got it for my niece. This was created back in 2002, so it is a little older. This is my favorite, if you are like I am and need less complicated moves in order to stay on track this may be for you. I got one of the other boxes (transFIRMer), and I could not keep up with the more advanced choreography and ended up taking it to a pawn shop. Now I do really like the TransFIRMation (which gives the knees a break from the box) and their new WAVE series, but there is nothing quite like the original. If you feel like the workout is not working, up your weights. So if you are uncoordinated (like me), this may be the set for you... :) Good luck - posted by Chris on 1/2/2009
STILL THE BEST
this firm kit is still the best workout!!! No matter how many other videos I get (and some are new favorites)this firm system is still my favorite. I always come back to it!!! - posted by Sharon on 10/30/2008
Solid Workouts
I bought this set because I got it for just a bit more than the Fanny Lifter alone would have been. I didn't anticipate caring for the workouts themselves much, because I typically prefer the older Firms under Bensons, parts tapes, etc. However, I really like CardioSculpt and BodySculpt(have not done AbSculpt because I'm just not the kinda gal to spend that much time on my abs). They definitely have a different vibe than old Firms, but they still are very effective for me. CardioSculpt is a bit skimpy on the cardio, but I find if I just really go for it all the way through, I get a decent cardio workout. The toning's good, Allie's great, and it's fun. BodySculpt with Jen, is a killer. I'd classify myself as a mid intermediate exerciser at this point and BodySculpt works me hard. I use 3, 5, and 8 lbs. and I don't see myself heavying up immediately with this. But I know I'll be able to eventually. I thought Jen's cuing and form instruction was really good on this one without being overbearing. I'm thrilled with both of these and have them in my rotation. - posted by Leslie on 7/30/2008
Still great after all this time
I bought this set about a year ago,and they are still in my rotation.Love cardio sculpt;alternating upper and lower body. Was'nt much cardio, but that did'nt bother me at all.Body sculpt..the lunges really worked my legs;was glad when that part was over. Also liked the upper body w/o.Ab sculpt was ok,the warmup was too long, but I guess if someone was working out for the first time,it was valued information. All in all I continue to get a great w/o with no dread factor. And it helped me on my journey on losing weight. - posted by Vanessa on 6/11/2008
Ab Sculpt...
I just tried Ab Sculpt for the first time, all the way through yesterday and have to say it is a decent workout. First what I did not like. I feel the breathing instruction in the beginning was WAY too long, you get the technique after about 5 minutes and the fact that this portion cannot be skipped is quite annoying as you HAVE TO do this section every time. What I liked is the different core exercises using pilates inspired as well as yoga moves. This was refreshing and I felt the use of the fanny lifter was also beneficial in several of the exercises, it gave them a different twist from the same old same old. Lisa seems a little stiff in this workout unlike her lead in Fat Blasting Cardio, I still think she is a great instructor despite. I will also keep this workout in my rotation when I want to focus on a longer ab workout. Love the Firm !!! - posted by Jordan on 6/3/2008

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

When played on a widescreen TV, this program will show black bars on the left and right sides. On an older 4x3 ratio TV, it will fill the entire screen.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Step aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The step aerobics segments involve stepping up and down on a platform. The moves range from simple stepping to more choreographed exercises. These segments require a step bench platform. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
