Certified instructor description: A truly comprehensive fitness series. While the program emphasizes time-efficient aero/tone interval workouts, it also includes aerobics, toning and yoga. With 13 different options, it's easy to choose the length, level and goal that's right for you. The interval workouts are body-part-targeted: total body, upper, lower and abs (one long and one short for each area). Their toning segments use familiar standing and floor exercises like bicep curls, reverse lunges and planks. The cardio intervals also integrate targeted toning (e.g. fast-paced squats for the lower-body aerobics). The one all-cardio workout is a kickbox blast. The two yoga programs build strength and flexibility with a free-flowing series of classic poses. Chris' instruction is motivating and friendly — she always has a warm, genuine smile. Kit includes an eating guide, exercise plan and tape measure. Requires two sets of dumbbells (e.g. 3 and 5 lb.). ©2012. Note: The five workouts on Disc 2 were originally released on Chris' original “10 Lb. Slimdown” DVD.

10 Pound Slimdown Xtreme with Chris Freytag

Love the workout
I really like this program but I'm really having trouble with disc one. They sent me out two replacements already and both of them aren't any good. They're very hard to load and if your successful with loading the disc introduction freezes up on you and if you get it to play it will freeze up while you in the middle of the workout. It's really frustrating. But from what I was able to do I like it. I want to keep it but its really giving me trouble, I can't fuss an waste Time trying to get a tape to load. I wish this tape was made better. It's a shame because the workout is good an I like Chris Freytag. Disc two an three are fine. I don't understand why there's so much trouble with disc one. I got to do two workout off of it since I purchased it. - posted by Margaret on 5/23/2013
Great!
I have been exercising for about 1 1/2 years. This DVD is challenging for me. I am thoroughly enjoying it and the way it is set up. She has a very nice voice and very encouraging. I tell my friends that this Xtreme workout is challenging, but not insane type of extreme!!! Love it! - posted by Brenda on 5/19/2013
Love it!
I have been doing walking videos with Leslie Sansone because I am 51 years old and just got back into getting in shape. I haven't worked out in about 15 years. After doing Leslie's videos I decided to challenge myself, and I chose Chris's workout. I love it, never knew kickboxing could be so much fun and such a great workout. I have arthritis, so the workouts that require plank positions cause me problems with my wrists and shoulders, but I find a way to work around them. This video makes me look forward to working out again. She makes the workouts easy to follow after at least the first time. I had to learn some of the moves, but very easy to pick up. The 10 minute Buns and Abs are great as well, tough, but effective. - posted by Valerie on 5/10/2013
You'll Never Be Bored!
I did the 4 week challenge included with this DVD & I always looked forward to working out with Chris. I didn't lose 10 lbs, but I did gain a lot of strength and running is definitely easier. The 6,40 minute extreme workouts are the perfect length. The 5, 20 minute recovery workouts really aren't what they sound- they are just as intense as the 40 minute extreme workouts, but shorter in length (perfect to add on to the 40 minute extreme workouts). The bonus abs & buns are effective. When following the 4 week challenge, I did substitute other forms of cardio (treadmill running, cardio DVDs or step aerobics) when kickboxing was offered more than 2x/week. Overall, a very effective and fun workout. - posted by Julie on 4/3/2013
Great workout!
I discovered collage videos a couple of months ago and decided recently after careful scrutiny to give Chris Freytag a try. (i have Jillian Michaels, Tae Bo, Insanity, etc.)I had never tried one of her videos and was pleasantly surprised! I consider myself in the intermediate to advanced range of exercisers. I have done 2 off the extreme workouts and one from the beginner set. The extreme workouts so far are perfect. I like Chris's no frills straight forward approach. Like one of the other reviewers mentioned.....you can add or decrease weights for intensity. When she does dead lifts and squats, I try to use 15 lbs. for upper body I use 10 and sometimes 8lbs. The beginner workouts on disc two definitely need to be combined to get a full workout, for me. I am 47 years old and have been working pt for 20 years. I definitely want to work smarter not harder and I think that this video set videos will accomplish that. I am looking forward to the rest of the workouts. Glad I have added Chris to my collection! - posted by Malea on 3/30/2013
These workouts are great!
I was not so sure about this program but it is plenty challenging and Chris is wonderful! She is encouraging and fun! The moves are easy to catch on to and you'll get a good workout in a short amount of time! Also, i thought the price was right. Great all around routines, highly recommended! - posted by Kim on 3/9/2013
Really love Chris
Chris is one of my favorites to work out with. She is very positive and motivational. I have several of her workout DVDs and this set has alot of promise. I have only used a couple of the 40 min DVDs, and cant wait to try the recovery ones...perfect for low energy days, or when i just dont have time for a full length workout. This is not for the advanced exerciser, but Im 48 and they work well for me. Id recommend these to any beginner who wants to grow, as well as any intermediate level person who wants a workout that will challenge them. - posted by Lois on 3/7/2013
Love This Set!
I really like this set. I am a 50-something and have been at the intermediate level for a year and a half and wanted to take my workouts up a notch. I love Chris' style of teaching and this set is just what I need to get to the next level. I'm not looking to lose 10 lbs but these are great for overall endurance training and muscle toning. I find them tough, just the right length and give me a great workout. Chris is very encouraging and challenges me to use heavier weights. And I can say in the three weeks I have been using these it has paid off as my pants are looser. I have not used any of the recovery workouts or the bonus abs and buns. I hope to check them out soon. This is a great set and I would recommend them to any one looking for a good, hard workout. - posted by Lynn on 2/28/2013
Totally Versatile, Extremely Motivating
What a well thought out exercise package! Chris has only improved in her teaching, motivating and form since her Prevention days and is fabulous throughout all these workouts. It's particularly good for mixing and matching into customized exercise. There are six 40-minute "Extreme" workouts, mostly in circuit format, alternating weights and cardio. Overall my favorite is the all cardio kickboxing one. The "Extreme" Yoga is mis-catergorized, though, because it is not in any way extreme. Then there are five 20-minute workouts intended for your recovery days. The great thing about these is that, within that 20-minute format, they are not Mickey Mouse programs; Chris packs a lot into them. Again, the yoga is the exception as far as intensity. The third DVD just has two 10-minute toning programs, one for abs and one for buns. I'm an intermediate/advanced exerciser and love these for my lighter days, but particularly enjoy adding a 20-minute workout to one of the 40-minute Extreme ones. Chris is marvelous and precise in her tips on form throughout, and her motivation is top notch. You get a lot of workout options for your buck with this wonderful compilation. - posted by Janny on 2/24/2013
GOOD WORKOUT, BUT-
The dvd quality isn't good. I've only used it a few times and it skips all over the place. I don't have this problem with any other dvds. It seems they went cheap when the manufacturers had dvds burned, possibly because there are 3 in this program. Too bad- I like Chris and the workouts are good- well-paced and challenging, but I'm going to return this. - posted by Parker on 2/8/2013

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
