Certified instructor description: Seven workouts: four challenging Tabata programs plus toning and yoga sessions. Each Tabata workout focuses on a specific body area with fast-paced cardio and targeted toning. You can choose: upper, lower, total-body or core. Like all Tabata, you'll work at maximum intensity for 20 seconds, then "rest" for 10 seconds (repeated eight times, before moving on to a different series). While some sequences are aero/tone "intervals," most blend the toning right into the aerobics (e.g. jump squats that work the legs or "knee thrusts with a hop" that engage the abs). The cardio is mostly higher-impact, but Chris usually offers a lower-impact option. The toning uses fitness classics like push-ups, lunges and bicycles. The two toning programs are super-basic; the yoga workout combines flowing Vinyasas with static "holds." Very friendly cuing ("I will help you through this"). Two DVDs. Requires 3 to 10 lb. dumbbells. ©2012.

ACE HIIT Series with Chris Freytag

Excellent workout, excellent value
This is a great workout DVD with many different effective workouts that make it a great value for your money. I workout with Cathe, Michelle Dozois, and occasionally Jari Love. Chris Freytag is another workout leader that I can workout with because she is pleasant and no-nonsense and not cheer-leaderish. Also the workouts are challenging in their intensity, but not in choreography, so that you can pick it up quickly. There is repetition, as others have stated. However, I did not find it unpleasant, as you only stay on one routine consisting of four different exercises for only four minutes before you move on to a new routine. By that time, you are ready to move on and Chris then gives you a whole new set of exercises. All in all, this is a great effort by Chris and ACE. This is definitely worth the money. - posted by Tracy on 6/9/2013
nice workout
I liked the workouts on the video. They are effective and make me sweat. The only thing I don't like is the time I have to wait on the demonstrations. I just fast forward but it is a bother to do that. - posted by judy on 6/7/2013
Wanted to love it
After reading so many positive reviews I couldn't wait to try this workout. Unfortunately, I really do not like this workout. I found it to be boring and extremely repetitive. I am constantly watching the clock wondering how much longer until it is over. The two positives I have for the DVD are Chris herself and I do enjoy the stretching/yoga portion of the program. This may be an excellent program for those just starting out. I sooo wanted to love it!!! - posted by Kelli on 5/25/2013
Perfect combination
This dvd has helped me to use the weights I bought(but never used) at home. I can combine the workouts to compliment my personal training sessions at the gym. I can also decide how long I want to work out depending on my energy and commitments. The only thing I haven"t tried is the yoga which I am not so keen on. It is hard work but makes you feel so good when you are done! - posted by Joyce on 5/23/2013
Amazing DVD
I am an advanced exerciser with 100+ DVDs. Love this one! Short enough to do every day, the time really flies by, and I am drenched in sweat by the end. There is no tricky choreography to learn, so I feel that beginners could do this as she always gives a low impact option and you go at your own pace. - posted by Jessica on 5/18/2013
Love it
Intense workouts, nice combinations of high impact hiit and heart-rate sustaining toning. - posted by Laura on 5/17/2013
EXCELLENT!
Agree with comment that first section can be repetitive / boring, but overall this is an excellent, efficient workout. I highly recommend it. Will make me look for more of her offerings. - posted by Becky on 5/17/2013
Excellent DVD!
There are 4 30 min tough HIIT workouts that will really challenge you. The second DVD has 2 10 minute intense workouts with a 20 minute relatively easy yoga flow workout! This is a great buy - 7 different workouts with a great trainer! - posted by Susan on 5/9/2013
Not as tough as I hoped it would be
I agree with other reviews that this is more of an intermediate workout. I also think that the same exercises are repeated way too many times and that more effective exercises could have increased the usefulness of this workout. Overall, I liked the instructor, but she just talked WAY too much - it was constant and it got really annoying!! There are some creative exercises on the DVD, but I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it - not what I expected! - posted by Jennifer on 5/6/2013
Buy it! You will like it!
This is a great workout. Well worth the cost. A must for any DVD fitness buff. You will be happy with the results. I like the easy moves and no frills. It proves you don't need to be an acrobat to be fit. I wish more video followed suit. - posted by Joanne on 4/28/2013

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.
sample time graph
Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
sample time graph
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Aerobics & Toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
