Certified instructor description: A unique workout that combines the grace and fluidity of ballet with the power and intensity of boxing (all designed to develop a lean, strong, flexible body). It’s a fusion that — somewhat surprisingly — really works. Both disciplines require repetition, finesse and mental focus. The toning intervals feature intensified versions of classic ballet moves like pliés and arabeques. The cardio segments are a true blend of dance and boxing (e.g. ballet-style footwork and jumps combined with boxing-style jabs and punches). The drum-based music and smooth transitions make it both motivating and easy to follow. 1 to 3 lb. dumbbells and a body bar are optional. ©2010. DVD has: Chapter menus, Wide screen.

WOW!!!
This is probably my favorite workout!! The music is perfectly cued and the intoxicating, hypnotic sound of Michael's voice really makes you want to strive! Perfect! You really cannot go wrong with this one! - posted by Wendy on 10/24/2011
Really different and fun!
I have to admit I don't like kickboxing, and I usually don't like voice overs, but I love this workout! It is manageable because it is broken down into Round 1, round 2, etc, and it plays really well from one to the next. Michael Olajide has a really sexy voice and I love his cuing, and Leila is very precise and easy to follow. the moves are great and effective without being so hard you just won't do it. this is definitely a new part of my library! - posted by Cindy on 7/19/2011
Great Workout!!!
This workout is not very challenging, but its very effective. I dont like 'dancy' workouts and there is one dancy segment that i Jump rope instead. Michael Olaiide is amazing. His voice is hypnotic. - posted by Regina on 6/3/2011
Love!
I love this workout....it isn't really advanced but I feel good all day after doing it. It's also a nice break from the usual cardio and weight tapes that I do. - posted by Shawna on 5/22/2011
Different & Fun
This was a fun workout! I generally don't like 'dancy' exercises, but the ballet segments were more along the line of squats. There is a little ballet dance routine; but I was able to improvise & make it doable for me. I gave it 4 stars because I thought the cuing could be better. Since Michael's part was strictly voice-over, there's no reason not to cue each change, especially when balance is so important. The boxing match between Michael & Leila at the end of the tape is really cute. - posted by Vickie on 4/29/2011
Love this workout!!!!!
Aerobarre is absolutely the best workout I've ever done. I would give it 10 stars if I could. Olajide's hypnotic voice and fabulous percussion rhythms really accentuate the moves. Fazel is beautiful and amazing to watch and follow. This workout is broken into rounds - and each round offers new challenges. I wear weighted gloves instead of using the handweights and find the balance segment with the body bar to be a challenge, so I use a table edge to assist my balance. This is a fantastic blend of ballet and boxing. I smile for hours after doing this workout! Clever and creative I'll do this one a million times. I would like more by this talented team. - posted by Sandra on 4/27/2011
Fantastic Blend
I loved this video with a blend of ballet and boxing. The music!! and voice was perfect! to carry the movement. The mix is great for the 50 plus exerciser who wants to sweat and have a lean and strong body. I would love to see more videos like this one created with boxing and more ballet movements to work the abdomen and legs! - posted by Sandy on 3/20/2011

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Chapter menus
X
You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
Wide screen
X
The program fully fills a wide-screen television screen. Note: These videos will display black bars at the top and bottom on a traditional 4 x 3 ratio TV screen.
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
