Time graph for Amy Bento's All Pump Xtreme
A challenging program that maximizes variety with multiple exercise variations using lots of different equipment. You can do the two-hour “killer” program or select one of the 39 to 81-minute premix workouts. Most routines feature “muscle overload” — several sets of similar exercises with no rest in between (as Amy says, “this is tough, but you’re tougher”). Amy also often modifies regular routines to make them more intense (e.g. a one-legged squat gets even harder when she adds a “dumbbell reach” across the body). Requires dumbbells, a barbell, a body bar, an X-ertube and a step. A medicine ball is optional. One 4-minute segment uses gliding discs (paper plates will work). It’s a well-produced program with excellent cuing. ©2007. DVD has: 8 premixes (42 to 81-min. alternate workouts), Chapter menus, Music only option.

Amy Bento's All Pump Xtreme

Great Variety!
APX is a great, great weight workout. I love the variety and the equipment used. Shaking things up are what keeps me interested and my body responding. You can easily divide this workout and do the compound weight/core work one day and the rest of it another day or use one of the many fabulous premixes. This can easily be turned into a 3 day split. I love, love, love the options and variety offered in APX. The only reason I give it four stars is for the back pull ups, you need too many risers and many home exercisers don't have that many risers so you HAVE to find a substitute exercise. Amy continues to offer innovative and unique twists to traditional weight lifting. Some of the moves have a nice functional feel to them. This is a workout to grow with and it's a total keeper! - posted by Angela on 4/3/2008
Too much everything!
This workout involves too much equipment, takes too much time & has too many sets. Sure, I was sore after doing the workout, but I think if I had done ANY muscle toning for over an hour, I would have been sore! The first time I did this workout (the shorter "express" version), I was not impressed with the workout itself plus it still took over an hour to complete. So I gave it another try, hoping to like it more. There's so much that I don't like about this workout that I don't think it'll be one I use often. I spent a lot of time switching equipment & fast forwarding over moves that had way too many sets. The second time, I used only dumbbells (no body bar & no band) & my transFIRMer step box. It worked just fine, but I never had time to do any abdominal work because I ran out of time. This workout has the potential to be one I would like if only they would create mixes that are a lot shorter (with less sets) & try not to be creative with all that equipment. For now, I think I'll just stick with The FIRM & Cathy Coffey-Meyer (NYC is a good workout). - posted by Melissa on 3/28/2008
Another Great Workout from Amy!
This is my second workout from Amy. I also have "Slo-Mo Strength Challenge." This is an excellent workout which features a new twist on allot of traditional exercises. Every part of my body got a great workout. I especially love the core work which doesn't feature one single crunch or sit up. This workout does use alot of equipment and sometimes I found it took me a minute to switch between exercises. However, that was a minor distraction for me in what I otherwise consider to be an amazing workout. I can't wait for more workouts from Amy! - posted by Pam on 2/3/2008
Too much equipment
I am an advanced home exerciser. Regular user of Cathe and Jari. Believe this to be a good work out. But could not get past the amount of stuff you had to have. I am sending this one back - posted by bschwarz on 1/28/2008
LOVE THIS WORKOUT
Love this workout. I bought furniture sliders from Home Depot, used them as my gliders. Ten bucks is better than thirty. Amy always rocks. - posted by STEPHANIE on 12/7/2007
Variety is the Spice of Life!
Amy Bento is cool! Her strength training moves are very creative. Although I am a die hard Cathe fan, Amy's dvd rates space on my shelf, and rates usage 1-2 times per week. Lots of equipment is required if you have it; but if you look around your gargage you'll probably find substitutes for what Amy uses. Amy's cuing and screen presence is excellent; she does motivate you! I guess these days most dvd trainers have a crew. In comparsion to Cathe's crew, Amy's crew needs some polishing. Great workout...not for the sedentary or the beginner. The dvd is well worth the purchase...less expensive than Cathe's but just as effective. If you want to purchase this dvd...go for it! - posted by Lizbeth on 11/15/2007
Revisted this one and it rocks
I forgot how much I enjoyed the leg segment and her abs. Amy has a fresh take on exercises and my body thanks her. Although she requires equiptment I used chairs for the chin ups. I am really glad I have this one in my library. I need to use it more often it's a gem for the money. - posted by Trisha on 11/13/2007
ok
I thought this would be great, but heck you have to have all this equipment to do this video and who wants to purchase all for just this video. It's ok and she does some different good tech. but, I think it's not worth the money. I rather stay with Cathe and Jari Love, by far. - posted by Laci on 10/9/2007
Effective and Enjoyable
The best instructors lead you into a trance-like state, sweeping us through workout,so we mentally dance through the hard work! Bento's instruction and voice let me float through this workout like that. I use a band for back work (Cathe moves) where she used a gadzillion risers for pullups, and I'm looking for gliders for the ab section. The rest of the workout uses equipment most of us have. - posted by Robin on 8/20/2007
Loved this too
I have been using this DVD in a rotation for the past month. My abs and legs see a huge difference. I really like Amy she is very professional. This one is a keeper! - posted by Janet on 7/29/2007

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.
sample time graph
Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Premixes
X
These are alternate workouts created by the manufacturer. They use the same content as the main program (i.e. the very same video footage). But the sections are re-edited into pre-made alternative workouts that you select from a menu. These are often condensed versions of the main workout.
Chapter menus
X
You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
Music only option

This feature allows you to play only the music, without any cuing (after you’ve learned the movements and you just want to do the workout without listening to the instruction).
