Time graph for Amy Bento's Hi-Lo Xtreme

Fast-paced and super-challenging, it’s an ever-changing mix of non-stop cardio combos. You’re sure to burn fat, build stamina … and test your endurance. Don’t even think about slowing down; these wide-ranging moves only change from “fast” to “even faster” (in the “power up” intervals that end each combination). The exercises include pivots, repeaters and directional changes plus higher-impact ski jumps, power leaps and football-style plyo drills (the last combo is nearly all high-impact, but one person shows an easier variation). Throughout, Amy’s cuing and transitions are flawless while her energy level is amazing. Includes some “pre-mixed” workout options. Note: Better production quality, less “whooping” than Amy’s earlier programs. ©2006. DVD has: 9 premixes (33 to 118-min. alternate workouts), Chapter menus.

Awful
This workout is terrible! Does Amy have any control of her filming staff? If not, I can not totally blame her. They cut off her legs from the picture. You can't follow what she is doing if you can't see her feet. The music is terrible. The fact that you have to hear what she says to keep up, you can't put music of your own on. Well, that I guess doesn't even matter since her cuing is off. Can she count? It appears that she makes it up as she goes along, because she doesn't tell you what she is going to do until she does it. It is a shame, because she actually adds a bonus to the dvd by including portions of all pump strength and her strength dvds are pretty good. - posted by j on 7/14/2008
Tough workout!
This is one tough workout. I am an advanced exerciser who loves Cathe Friedrich's videos, so I wanted a video that competed with her advanced level. I had a bit of trouble learning the choreography, but after I rewound the tough segments a few (hundred) times, I was able to catch on (I'm no dancer, after all!). It's nice to be able to do a video that keeps my heartrate up at the level of a tough jog outside. I highly recommend this video. - posted by Teresa on 6/3/2008
Good Workout
There is nothing wrong with this workout. For the experienced video exerciser it's easy enough to follow. There are some moves where you go forward, backward, or diagonally. If you don't have the room, you can modify it to do it in place, or just side to side. The intensity is intermediate to advanced, about at the level of Cathe Friedrich. You will work up quite a sweat, but it's definitely doable. There are several premixes different in length and a couple of them have weight segments from All Pump Extreme mixed with the cardio segments from this workout which gives you lots of variety. - posted by dusty on 6/2/2008
My New Favorite
I am fairly new to Amy's dvd's but I love the two that I have, this one and Kickbox Extreme. This work-out is definitely challenging and fast-paced. I was able to get the choreography down after my first couple of times but it is a little tricky in places. I like that though, it keeps the work-out interesting for me. I also love having all the mix options, it's like having 9 work-outs on one dvd, especially with the APX mixes which includes strength training. Amy is so motivating and energetic, she is fun to watch. I highly recommend this dvd. - posted by Alyssa on 5/11/2008
Okay
The cardio is just okay. I agree w/other posts that the intervals between when you really work and it's less dancey are a better cardio workout. I do like the all pump premixes, though, so I gave it 4 stars for that reason. It does require a lot of space, but I have learned to modify for that. - posted by J on 5/9/2008
Good Workout
This is a high energy workout. I love Amy's enthusiasm. It takes a couple of run throughs to get all the moves down. I do agree with the other reviewers that this workout does take a lot of room. For that reason I didn't give it 5 stars, because unless I'm in the mood to move furniture, I don't use this DVD that often. - posted by Lineese on 4/23/2008
Definitely a learning curve
Amy's Hi Lo are just about the only cardio I like doing nowadays. The music is motivating, good cuing, even for a klutz like me, and Amy's energy is contagious. This workout is a space hog, but even though I may not have as much space, I make it work for me and I'm usually sweating buckets by the time it's over. - posted by CD on 4/1/2008
Eh....
The only thing I liked about this workout were the intervals in between each combo. I like basic moves though, nothing fancy or dancy. - posted by Mandee on 3/28/2008
sweat buckets !!!
Today i finally tried this workout after letting it sit for a good month or so; it's excellent! of course I couldn't keep up with all the choreography, but i'll get better. I highly recommend this one. has some great premixes at the end. - posted by fontella on 3/24/2008
Definitely for advanced exercisers
Wow - this is one fast, tough, kickin' workout! If you like complex choreography and fast music, this is the challenge you've been looking for. Be prepared to transition between moves quickly - Amy cues well but as the workout is geared to advanced exercisers, she does not explain or break down moves. The music was a bit too fast for my pace, and I consider myself to be intermediate/advanced exerciser, but that's just my preference. You will work up a sweat with this one!!! - posted by Amy from Mississauga, Canada on 3/24/2008

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Premixes
X
These are alternate workouts created by the manufacturer. They use the same content as the main program (i.e. the very same video footage). But the sections are re-edited into pre-made alternative workouts that you select from a menu. These are often condensed versions of the main workout.
Chapter menus
X
You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
