Time graph for Amy Bento's In the Ring
A non-stop kickboxing challenge that uses a medicine ball or dumbbell to maximize effectiveness. It’s fast-paced and fun with exceptionally well-structured “kickbox choreography” (i.e. your upper and lower body are working together in true aerobic-style combinations). The upper-body moves range from punches and blocks to “speed bags” and “elbow smashes.” The complementary lower-body exercises include jump kicks, crescent kicks and “machine gun kicks.” Short medicine ball segments are inserted between the kickbox intervals. Moving the ball high-to-low across your body increases fat-burning as it engages your core muscles (and adds variety). Requires a 5 to 10 lb. medicine ball or a dumbbell. ©2008. DVD has: 5 premixes (33 to 74-min. alternate workouts), Chapter menus.

Amy Bento's In the Ring

A real blast!
I'm the first to admit I'm choreographically challenged, but this workout sounded like so much fun I bought it anyway. The first time I did it I thought I'd just do the warmup. But Amy's energy and the music carried me away and I ended up doing the whole thing. This is a fresh, original workout that's lots of fun - loved the med ball sections too! - posted by RedPanda on 8/3/2008
Fun...A bit of a learning curve
I am an advanced exerciser who enjoys all types of cardio and strength training. I love Amy's refreshing, yet challenging workouts. This workout, like most of Amy's workouts, requires a few attempts to get it down completely--Thus, it requires a learning curve. Don't expect to get it down the first time around and don't expect it to be broken down into baby steps. This is why it is an advanced workout with intermediate-to-advanced choreography. However, it is very possible and very doable after a few workouts. I love the music and Amy's no-nonsense approach. She makes working out fun again! Thanks Amy!! - posted by FitnessAngel on 7/16/2008
another great workout from amy!
this workout is really tough (even for me an "advanced" exerciser) but super fun. it took me three times to figure out all the choreography, but i like the challenge of learning the steps so i'm cool with that. i know a lot of people think her cueing isn't great, but once you know the gist of the combo, her cueing makes sense. this is my new favorite Amy Bento video and I've done it at least once a week since i bought it last month. - posted by annie g on 7/15/2008
What?
The description of this workout doesn't fit the workout. I find it very difficult to follow her and I can't see anything related to kickboxing here. Amy turns in the ring into a circus with her quirky moves and her poor form. - posted by Heather on 7/15/2008
Sorry not for me
I was hoping Amy would learn how to cue and pick up some technique. Amy is very hard to follow and really needs to cue ahead of time. - posted by LJ on 7/15/2008
It's more HiLo than KB
I love Amy so I was looking forward to a kickbox workout from her. This turned out to be a bit different than what I expected. It was more of a HiLo cardio with kickbox moves and you don't really focus on form. But I didn't enjoy this anywhere as much as her traditional Hilo, which is some of the best. I am indifferent to this workout; I may do it once in awhile but not very often. - posted by Hara on 7/14/2008
Maximum Fun, Zero Dread Factor
This is such an awesome workout! This was my first Amy Bento workout and I've since acquired her entire collection. There is a short learning curve to her KB choreography because she does longer combinations, but her cueing is spot on. This is a serious calorie burner, with minimal impact, great music and fun med ball intervals. When I'm done, I'm not wiped, just feel energized and accomplished. Really a winner! - posted by Joan on 7/14/2008
What a workout!
I have done this three times now. Definitely a five-star workout, no complaints from me! First time I could not catch on as the workout is fast-paced - which is great when you know the moves! And when you get the hang of it, Amy's cueing is perfect - when you are still learning it, it may feel like she's not cueing well - which I believe is due to the workout being very fast-paced, non-stop! - posted by Mari on 7/10/2008
Bad Cueing
Seems like a good workout, but Amy has horrible cueing, which makes it very frustrating. I have tried it only once, but have done lots of tapes and if they are cued properly, I can generally keep up. Parts of this I had to stop and rewind, but she just went into a move without no explanation. - posted by Paula on 6/29/2008
Deceptive
Started out and then built in intensity. On the whole low impact. Effective, thorough and covers the whole body. Amy, consider making more LOWER IMPACT, HIGHER INTENSITY workouts. There is a void in the market for this type of workout. She is the most creative out of the bunch. This is an excellent tape. Premixes allow the intermediate to grow into this workout or for use when you wish a shorter workout. Like the variety of moves used and how you have fused them together. Form much improved. Its fun as always with this lady. Recommend it. - posted by scotland on 6/25/2008

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Premixes
X
These are alternate workouts created by the manufacturer. They use the same content as the main program (i.e. the very same video footage). But the sections are re-edited into pre-made alternative workouts that you select from a menu. These are often condensed versions of the main workout.
Chapter menus

You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
