Certified instructor description: Motivating boot-camp style in an easy-to-follow program. You’ll feel the conditioning as you count the reps off with Ada. Alternating peak and recovery intervals, anyone can follow these super-simple moves (i.e. nothing more complicated than step-touch). Even the toning is basic: lunges, curls, push-ups. An interesting outdoor military base setting (e.g. parked helicopters). 1 to 5 lb. dumbbells suggested. ©1991.

Basic Training with Ada Janklowicz

Best workout video
Hello, I'm so happy I found this video again. I used to work out to it 15yr's ago. She got me in the best shape ever, about 6 months ago I had to go for physical therapy and I was telling one of the therapist there about basic training and that I wished Ada was back on tv that she was the best instructor she is very easy to follow and you really felt good after you were done. As the other comments said it brings back old memories. Ada's workouts are the only ones I never tire of. - posted by Cheryl Gaudreau on 4/9/2012
Can't believe I found you again
back in the day I worked with Ada and did every day for 3 yrs straight. I was cut and in the best shape of my life. I can't wait to be there again, muscle memory is great, and though it's been a looong time I've done it and off 3days here or there and know how quick it comes back. This is great. - posted by cindy on 3/24/2012
Love it
I had her vhs basic training workout video and I loved it so much that I wore it out. Now I am getting the DVD so I can continue to use this workout. It has truely been my favorite over the years. - posted by Tina on 12/5/2011
I suspect there's a lot of nostalgia in these reviews
but the workouts are very dated, VERY easy and frankly a bit boring. It's hilarious how the buff military guys use the same no-challenge weights as the girls do. - posted by Caroline on 11/8/2011
Love it!
This is a wonderful video. It's a little dated, but it's a good solid workout and I love it. - posted by Gisela on 4/21/2011
Love this video
Okay Ladies, this the workout for you. If you like Gilad you will love Ada. A fast paced fun video that gets you up and moving. Makes us older ladies feel like maybe we don't have so many years on us. This video will shape you up and have you hopping in a very short time. Made me sweat. I now have 16 Ada and Gilad tapes, and will have the rest to work out too. This fits well into my regular workout routine. Look good, feel good, all this is possible and more with Adas bootcamp workouts. Love this one too. - posted by Mary Anne on 3/31/2011
You inspired me
I loved working out with Ada! I still do!! I resembled her in the 80's workout 5'10" long curly black hair (now I'm 48)and still get a great workout with her Basic Training videos. Sure miss seeing her on tv. You inspired me Ada!!! Thank you, Maria Ohio - posted by Maria on 3/20/2011
Fantastic - like Classic Firm
I used this video 15 years ago, and just returned to it. It is fantastic. Ada's cueing is superb in every respect. I also like the classic Firms, and this video (although in a very different setting) feels more similar to the classic Firms than the new Firm tapes do. - posted by Sally on 2/5/2011
You Saved My Life
I have used Ada's tape for years for an at home workout. I got her tape but my husband accidentally taped over it, so I was lost until I found your service. Thanks! PS Ada has many programs; I wish there were more on the tape I bought from you. - posted by GWYN on 11/1/2010
The all time best workout....ever.
Back in the 80's and 90's, I used to do both Ada's workout as well as Gilad's. Over the years I stopped using workout videos and just rode my exercise bike. With a recent pinched nerve in my neck I decided to start again in order to strengthen my upper back. I am so glad they put this workout on DVD so that I could enjoy it again. It is just as good now as it was back then even though I am much older now. The movements are not complicated and yet they really make you stronger! I already feel much stronger after only a couple of weeks! Ada is easy to keep up with, and her voice is not annoying at all. I am easily turned off by annoying voices or music.... - posted by Roberta on 10/28/2010

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
sample time graph
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
