Certified instructor description: You get four fun and motivating workouts. From practicing the basic moves to a non-stop aerobic workout, this series is a singularly upliftng way to shape up. Veena and Neena Bidasha, twin sisters and bellydance pros, make it easy. Program one is mostly instructional -- you’ll learn and practice the essentials: hip shimmies, flowing arms and simple foot patterns. Then, the two “light” toning workouts — focused on your upper and lower body — intermix those moves with proven body-sculpting routines like ab crunches and inner thigh lifts. Finally, the fat-burning program uses mostly fast-paced Egyptian folk dances (plus classical bellydancing) to really raise your heart rate. Pleasant set, Middle-Eastern-type music. Comes on two DVDs or four VHS tapes. ©1999. DVD has: Chapter menus.

Really pleased!
I'd been wanting to buy a bellydance tape for a while and kept looking them all over...am glad I went with this one. I think this is a great way to exercise. Wish I'd come across this years ago. I've got a lot of upper back stiffness and this is really making me more flexible through that area-I've noticed a change after maybe doing the arms/abs section 5 or 6 times. Some of the floorwork abs are a little advanced for me but something to work towards. I like the twins and their attitude. Just real happy with this purchase! - posted by Katie on 5/25/2009
Still exercising with these after all these years...
I bought this set in 2002 for a college assignment where I had to learn something new. I understand the mixed reviews from both novice and expertise exercisers. Not everything works for everyone. In my opinion, these tapes are exceptional for reaching fitness goals and for the opportunity to resurface underlying sensuality. If one executes the moves properly, they are very challenging. Change up your routines every few weeks to keep your body challenged. This is the trick. Also, exercising an hour a day is essential with a day or two of rest per week. Currently, I double up these videos or I do one and go walking with a weighted backpack for a 1/2 hour. If one only does one type of exercise...all the time, your body will not be challenged and you will not be able to gauge whether a workout is truly "working." Your body reaps the benefits of exercise when it is at rest. That's why we should not do total-body workouts every day or the same type of exercise every day. Therefore, if you move on to something else for a little while (3-4 weeks) and come back to these tapes, you will see how difficult they are when you try to do the moves once again. I have been working out for 23 years, and I have learned what works best for my body. Thus, I supplement all exercise I do with walking every day because this is what I need to do to stay at a healthy weight and to feel good in my clothes. To sum up, the movements on these tapes keep me sensually shapely in ways that modern western exercise cannot do. And, I don't have to beat up my body in order to achieve this. I am hoping to bellydance with Neena and Veena well into my golden years. I supplement this set with Slim Down, Indi-Hop, and Bellydance Core Conditioning. I am about to purchase Bollywood as well. - posted by Lisa on 5/3/2009
Returned it
Having taken beginning classes, I was looking forward to this. But found it lacked several fun, effective moves that should have been included, and agree with an earlier reviewer that there are too many of some steps; the "genie" and bouncing on one foot. It did not feel like true bellydancing at all. - posted by Disappointed on 8/5/2008
Better Than My Dance Classes
I've taken Bellydance classes, but I tried Veena and Neena's material for the sake of convenience. Wow, was I surprised. Before trying theirs, I had come across a few others but wasn't impressed at all. I now do one of their tapes per day along with my weight training. It helps to keep me flexible. I don't find it too repetitive because I do a different tape each time. I've yet to tire of them. The dance/exercise is presented in such a way that you know the results are reachable. And it shows! I look and feel phenomenal. The sisters are quite personable. The instructions are very easy to follow, their costumes are beautiful, and their stage appearance is also great. The material has been perfect for my routines. I love the music as well. I've recommended them to all of my friends. - posted by S. Carr on 5/24/2008

I really like these tapes
I love these videos. I got them about 2 years ago to get back into exercising. I never did Middle Eastern dance before and there was no one locally who taught it at the time. Because of these videos, I've gone on to learning bellydance in a studio setting! Sometimes I will go back and do the videos because they are a nice short workout. - posted by Lynn L. on 3/2/2005
I Love these workouts!!!
As someone who has never done alot of cardio, I was excited to try these Bellydance routines. I have to say that I have truly enjoyed all of these tapes and highly recommend them to all of my friends. The workouts are extremely fun yet they are very challenging. I am glad I decided to give them a try. - posted by Pam on 1/28/2003

GREAT ACTIVE STRETCH- "LUBRICATES" HIP JOINTS
I'VE HAD THIS SET FOR A WHILE AND EVERY TIME I GO BACK TO THEM, I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW MUCH TENSION DISAPPEARS FROM MY LARGER JOINTS! FUN WORKOUTS THAT MAKE ME SEARCH FOR MORE MORE MORE BELLYDANCE! NEENA AND VEENA ARE PROFESSIONAL AND SWEET. I AM INSPIRED BY THE DANCE DEMOS AT THE END OF EACH SESSION. I AGREE- THE LADIES ARE SO APPEALING THAT I WISH THEY WOULD DO THE CUING, BUT THE VOICE USED IS ALSO PLEASANT. - posted by MB-NY on 3/2/2002
a mixed bag
I dearly wanted to like these videos, as I've been an exerciser and Middle Eastern dancer for quite some time, and wanted to fuse the two. A friend got me these videos as a three pack (no abs and arms) as a gift. First, all three start out with a brief segment where the twins twirl in full costume. Then you see a lovely shot of their terrace set, with a mural in the background. I call it the Nile. Then the sisters come out doing a dance, then they stop and give a pleasant intro to the videos. They are beautiful and personable. Then they start the workout. All the tapes are instructed in voice over completely. The Basic moves tape is a good intro to basic ME dance moves and isolations. It works fine for me as a warm up or cool down, and unless I'm having an active rest day, its not a whole workout on its own. The fat burning video had promise, but the steps are so repetitive... a beginner may feel uncomfortable bouncing around on one foot for over thirty reps, and a more advanced exerciser may feel bored by the lack of variety. The hip, thighs tape is very similar to the basic moves with some more hip variations put in. Overall, they seem short on instruction, there are some lunges where their knees go way past their toes, there are bouncing, twisting motions. At the end, they have some wonderful performances. I think loosing the voice over and using more variety in their steps would help a great deal in making these workouts as good as their dance performances. I would like to try other videos from them, they are clearly great dancers, and seem warm in their intros. Maybe a little experience making exercise videos, not performance videos, will help them capture the charisma they obviously have. - posted by linda on 3/11/2001
Great set of tapes
I recommend the four-pack as a great way to learn belly dance moves. I have several belly dance tapes, including Magical Motion and Woman Power Workout. I find Veena and Neena's set relaxing and a work out all at the same time! The relatively short work-out time is great for limited schedules and at the end of the day the tapes are great just for stress relief. - posted by BH - New York on 3/8/2001

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Chapter menus
X
You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning

Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
