Certified instructor description: You’ll raise your heart rate into its fat-burning zone with a lively, fun and well-taught bellydance workout. It even tones your abs and lower body by emphasizing muscle isolations within these sensuous movements (e.g. hip thrusts, abdominal contractions). Twin sisters, Veena and Neena Bidasha, are friendly instructors who make it easy; they carefully instruct each routine and fully explain the subtleties of every movement (from “genie bounce” to “shimmy hips”). Motivating authentic Middle eastern music and setting. ©2001. DVD has: Chapter menus.

Bellydance Slimdown

Not very good
I was really hoping this would be a good workout but it is not. Should have heeded reviewers that warned about "the genie" move. Move was used way to much. Other movements are repeated too much as well. Did it once and am bored with it. What a disappointment. - posted by Joanie on 12/30/2010
Good Workout
This was the work out I was looking for. Its a beginner level workout but I still get a good work out from this 1. Over all a good workout. - posted by Kay on 4/9/2010
Love, Love, Love this video!!!
I just got this video a few days ago and usually I am not a video exercise kind of girl but I thought that I would try a dance one. So I got this video and I love it. You sweat a lot, you feel the burn, and it is SO much fun. I feel like I learned the basics of bellydancing and also got a great workout. I would recommend this video to anyone that wants to get a good cardio workout without doing the normal routine like treadmill or running. I exercise pretty regularly but this by far is the most fun workout I have ever done and I plan on replacing my normal exercise routines with this video. - posted by Shyvonne on 1/13/2010
Not Bad
Bellydance Slimdown is fun and different for someone like me who's never really tried this style of dance before. I find Latin-style hip movements really difficult and awkward, but my hips behaved themselves nicely for the more Eastern style of this workout. On the other hand, though, where something didn't come naturally I found it really difficult to adapt, and the routine moves along pretty quickly without offering a lot of time to figure out how to do stuff. While I enjoyed the video for the most part, there were several little things that bugged me about it. The cueing, for example, doesn't always quite match what's happening onscreen; it'll be a little ahead or a little behind. There's the issue of insufficient instruction in some areas that I mentioned above. Also, the video constantly falls back on the "genie bounce" between nearly every move. It's basically a bouncy step-touch with arms. It's a nice break between more strenuous segments, but I think it was perhaps a bit overused. A lighter touch with it would have kept it from becoming boring, and I would imagine that a more varied workout would also have been a better workout. There are also things to appreciate about the video, though. One of the less-technical aspects I liked was the appearance of the instructors. Although they're on the thin side of normal maybe, they're pretty regular-looking people; they're not hugely muscular or stick-skinny, and you can even catch a little glimpse of a muffin-top a couple of times. As shallow as it might be, that's encouraging to me. I also thought that even if the instruction was sometimes a little lacking, the video did mostly do a good job of making this style of dance workout accessible to me (i.e. a bare beginner). It got me up and moving and (except for the fumbly bits) made me feel pretty good about my body, actually. Even though I'm stopping short of my usual 15-session goal with this one, I'll probably try other belly dance/Bollywood workouts in the future, because this one has proved to me that it can be enjoyable. - posted by Sara on 12/7/2009
A marvelous intro to bellydancing
I purchased this video about 5-6 years ago. I still use it to this day to warmup before doing my weight/targeted training. I also own arms hip, and hips and they both great beginner bellydance video. I recently joined a gym that offers bellydance fitness classes and the instructor was impressed with my arm and hand stylings. It made me feel really good to hear it as if I could one day perform as an amateur. Thank you Neena and Veena!!! - posted by deewright on 1/3/2009
Fun even for the uncoordinated
At 46, I have never been able to dance-at all. I was surprised by how fun and enjoyable this video was, even from the first try. It felt relaxing even though it was a good light workout. The twins are adorable and very encouraging even though the cueing is done by voice-over. This is a charming video that gets me moving in ways that I normally don't, it feels great and has a nice toning effect. As you can probably tell, I am a little surprised by how much I liked this one. Great for shaking off stress! - posted by Laura on 6/26/2008
great cardio workout!
I have two other bellydance DVDs, and this one is certainly the most like a FITNESS WORKOUT. I loved every second of this short but powerful DVD. The music is particularly inspiring! One quibble: I would NOT rate this as beginner, but rather intermediate. I got up quite a sweat! Thanks to all who gave positive reviews, which inspired me to buy this. - posted by Bertha on 6/24/2008
Great workout
Okay, so i got the dvd and wow! it is a great workout. I work up a good sweat, still trying to follow it and keep up. I've done it 4 times with a day of rest between each workout. Now i'm just wondering how many times a week i should be doing this workout. Anyone know Thanks!!!! - posted by Sandi on 1/31/2008

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
