Certified instructor description: Two non-stop body-sculpting workouts led by a passionately motivating instructor (from TV’s “The Biggest Loser”). Both programs are designed to build strength while also burning calories. The secret is Bob’s intensity and the exceptionally quick movements (“how fast can you go? faster! faster!”). It just never slows down — you’ll end one series and immediately (and smoothly) transition into a new sequence. You get a varied selection of moves — from traditional push-ups and squats to isometric holds and compound exercises. The second program is an “introduction.” It features easier exercises and a less aggressive attitude (“just do what you can”). Requires 3 to 10 lb. dumbbells. ©2010. DVD has: Wide screen.

Bob Harper's Pure Burn Super Strength

Love this DVD
We love this one but it is not for the faint of heart! It is advanced and meets our need - This is a video that my husband will even do! - posted by Belinda on 5/15/2012
Intense!
Be prepared, it is intense - This is a great kick butt work out. Very challenging and yet very easy to follow. Good dvd! - posted by Belinda on 5/4/2012
WOW
Well, I managed to be able to do the 20 minute warm up a few times so far and just doing that had me sweating. I thought it was a good workout with just doing that. I have not gotten into the hour long workout yet but plan to venture into that even if I can only do some of it. I am in my 60's and I know that the fat burning part of the 1 hour is what I need to do to step up my game in order to burn more calories. I use other walking tapes and walk outside and have lost weight but now I really need to tone and rev up the metabolism more. I know this is the tape to do that, to take me to the next level I need. I am working my way into it. I don't expect to keep up throughout the hour but if I can handle some of the reps of all the exercises I will be happy. Anything I can do is a plus and he urges you to work at your own pace. - posted by Pat on 3/29/2012
Satisfied customer
This DVD gives you a good strength training workout. I do have 2 complaints, though. One is my forearms got tired before anything else making it difficult to do some of the moves. Also I didn't feel like my legs were worked quite enough-particularly my hamstrings. - posted by Stefanie on 2/23/2012
good .. but....
I did this DVD for the first time the other day. I could barely get through it.. not because it was too challenging.. which on a good note-- it is. However.. the women were just too over the top...the grunting, groaning... OVERDONE facial expressions...especially from the one doing the modified versions -just a little much...It was almost as if they had rehearsed the video 10 or 11 times in a row prior to taping the actual.... that's how EXHAUSTING the workout was for them.....As I mentioned, I felt the exercises were effective but found I was almost too distracted by the women's loud grunts... - posted by Susan on 2/16/2012
Not for Everybody
Love this workout. I'm 64 intermediate/advanced but found it 90% doable. Weighted pushups with rows will have to be a future goal of mine. The weights aren't that heavy, 12 lbs max.(used 15's sometimes) Rest of the time 12 or 8. Now for Bob, a few years ago if I ran into him on the streets of New York, I would have pushed him into the gutter! Hated this dude. Not so much, now. What I love about this series is that the other exercisers are huffing, screaming and sighing..Feel validated by this. - posted by Robin on 2/12/2012
Better Ones Out There
I just don't like his style...I feel like a dog he is attempting to train with his hand pounding the ground for emphasis and "in your face" prompting of crew as he walks around critiquing. The full body work out is challenging but just not motivating. The exaggerated facial and body movements along with the sounds coming out of one of the demonstrators tops what I see as a nurse with active labor patients. She's a hoot but not in a good way-like in a novice acting class. This combination of Bob Harper and the distracting side kick will keep this one on the shelf. The cost of returning it isn't worth it. I am 53 and have been working out at home(since Jane Fonda's first tapes) at the intermediate-advanced level with Kathe Friedrich , Jari Love, Jillian Michaels and one of the older Firms-Janet Jones oldie but goodie, prefer total body with weights. - posted by Lisa on 1/19/2012
Great routines. Definitely advanced
Bob Harper really pushes you. Expect a good workout. - posted by Nancy on 1/17/2012
Workout Flew By -- But the Pacing Is a Bit Too Fast
Not a bad workout. It's varied, so it flew by, and it hit many muscles. I do, however, agree with Debbie (below): The fast pace caused me to compromise my form. Had it been just a wee bit slower, I would have loved this. I'm an advanced exerciser who used the heaviest weights I could for this workout, but I found this less tough than Katami's workouts. Can't beat it for the price, though. - posted by Michelle E. on 10/31/2011
Painful(ly) AWESOME!
I bought this b/c I have Bob's other INSIDE OUT series and love them. I was looking for some heavy weights/low reps/good form. Which is NOT this, this is lighter-mid range weights with many reps plus cardio to keep that heart rate up! I've added to my mix, once or twice a week. IF I'm really in a time crunch, I also like to do the 20 minute beginner version, which allows me to load up on weight. It's a lot of arms and not enough chest/back, but I feel virtuous about fitting it on days when I don't have enough time. Bob rules. - posted by Kara on 10/28/2011

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
