Certified instructor description: Flowing, astanga-style power yoga designed to shape and tone your entire body. Brian has been teaching power yoga for 18 years; his technique is perfect, his cuing is precise (e.g. “soften your neck…”). He assures enjoyment with his calm, accepting attitude (e.g. “honor and respect your limitations”). The video’s first half features yoga basics — less intense routines that also help warm your muscles. The second half includes more challenging poses that require lots of flexibility (but one exerciser always shows easier modifications). Excellent production, quiet music. ©2000.

Bryan Kest's Intensive Body Sculpting

Awesome
I love this video! It's very intense and will make you sweat. It's also very challenging and I feel so renewed when I finish. Some parts of it I cannot do, but it will be something to work up to. While Bryan does not have the best speaking voice and he does talk a lot, there is a lot he is actually saying, so don't be put off by that. Overall, this is a great yoga video. - posted by Tess on 7/11/2011
Intense!
O.K., I bought this DVD about 6 months ago. I did it one time and the instructor talked so much, I had to turn it off after 10 minutes. The other day I was looking for a new yoga DVD and I started to read the reviews for this DVD. So many positive comments, I had to give it another try. It was so challenging. I was incredibly sore the next day. I do a lot of yoga (Rodney Yee, Shiva, Yoga works), but this kicked my butt. Again, the talking drove me crazy. It was too much for me, but I liked the workout very much. - posted by Shelley on 4/2/2011
Challenging Yoga Routine
This workout is a challenge - helps your but and abs get toned. I would definitely recommend this DVD! - posted by Elaina on 6/3/2010
talking the talk
I've practiced power yoga for 15 years and I have all of Bryan Kest's videos. I think this is a terrific workout, and yes, it is more advanced than intermediate. It works your hips, glutes, and thighs intensely. And yes, he does talk a lot but always about things you do need to hear and keep in mind when you're doing yoga (as he says-the real yoga). Yoga is about finding stability and ease in the pose and extending that to the mind. Achieving that stability and ease is an ongoing learning process. Yoga should train the mind as well as the body. I also like Rodney Yee, who doesn't talk. And it easier to focus when it is quiet because it takes less mental energy. Bryan, in my opinion, puts more demands on your ability to focus your mind partly because of the intensity of the work and because he does talk so much. But, I find the wisdom of what he says in practice comes back to me in daily life--that's part of taking the practice off the mat and into your life. - posted by Darle on 3/1/2010
The Best
I have been doing Brian Kest videos as well as attending several of his seminars for many years. When I first ordered his videos from Collage so many years ago (thank you Collage for introducing me to Brian) I too thought "you talk to much". As my practice grew, Brian is the one I turned to again and again because I liked the flow and challenge of his routines. I can't tell you when I started to hear what he was saying all I noticed was that I was using his words to advance my daily practice to a new level. He is the best. - posted by Maggie on 6/4/2009
Please Listen to what he's saying
I agree with the reviewer who recommends listening to what Bryan is saying. Once I relaxed into it and really listened to what he was saying, it's transformed my yoga practice. Part of the challenge is to slow down and remind yourself of your intentions, as he guides you to do. It's not about jamming through a workout, if you want that perhaps his videos are not for you. But if you're looking to start or expand your yoga practice and get more from it than you ever thought possible. You can't go wrong with any of his videos. His cuing is impeccable and he even makes you smile along the way. - posted by Jennifer on 12/12/2008
Hey, LISTEN to what he says!
Bryan is one the absolute BEST Yoga Masters of today. Maybe the greatest challenge coming from this video is taking the time to slow down and actually listen to some in-depth wisdom that Bryan shares with us in this particular dvd. This man is brilliant. I am a Yoga instructor myself, and I've learned so much wonderful knowledge from Bryan. I've witnessed my own students press too far into poses, holding their breath, clenching every inch of their bodies, not listening or being aware of what they are doing. If you want to heighten your Yoga practice, listen to Bryan, and listen to your body. Bryan Kest is a precious gift. You will LOVE all of his dvd's. - posted by Sandra on 12/11/2008
Have to agree with other reviews
I purchased this video because I really wanted a power yoga workout. I have been trying alternate workouts since I have had to cut back on running. Although this is a power yoga workout he TALKED WAY TOO MUCH. It completely threw off my concentration. I also felt we stayed in position too long. - posted by Candace on 5/10/2008
Good yoga workout
I agree with Gianna. Power yoga 1,2,and 3 are the best. He does talk way too much in this video but it is a great routine. I just try to tune him out and enjoy the workout. I also miss the tarzan hair. - posted by georgia on 1/10/2008
Great workout - but Bryan needs to stop YAPPIN'!
I have his "Power Yoga 1, 2, and 3" set and they are FABULOUS - even better than this one. Worth 5 stars easy, but my complaint for this one is he talks way too much. Instead of relaxing me, I'm getting anxious about him - he talks fast, too. Very nerve wracking when you're trying to do something like yoga. - posted by Gianna on 9/16/2007

Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
