Time graph for Bryan Kest's Power Yoga for Weight Loss

Features Bryan’s “power flow” technique — fluid, deep-muscle poses designed to raise your body’s core temperature. The moves range from the basics like “cobra,” “warrior” and “downward dog,” to more challenging poses that require lots of flexibility (especially in the hips and abdomen). Throughout, Bryan is moving among the class — demonstrating technique, giving encouragement and suggesting modifications (e.g. “only do what feels comfortable”). The workout ends with a short segment of ab-targeted Pilates/yoga routines. Note: you’ll achieve a healthy mind-body balance and probably even raise your heart rate, but these moves are a little too slow to really “burn” much fat. DVD includes a six minute ab toning bonus (VHS does not). ©2002.

Bryan Kest's Power Yoga for Weight Loss

Very Disappointing
The workout was an OK, not great, yoga session, unlike some of his other videos, which I loved. But I had to return it--I just couldn't stand his talking! He never shut up! Either he was talking and you were just listening, or he was talking so long you were holding a pose for 10 minutes! It made me totally crazy. - posted by Judi on 8/1/2007

Not as Good as the Original Power Yoga Series from Kest
I love Bryan Kest's three original power yoga DVDs (actually, mine are so old they are VCR tapes). I had really high expectations for this DVD and I was somewhat disappointed. The pace was quickened such that the body and balance benefits of yoga were all but eliminated. I felt worse after doing this tape whereas with his orginal tapes, I always felt better, like my body allignment was better. Also, the atmosphere is lacking compared with the original videos. I like the length of the workout though. Easy to fit before work. - posted by Jessica on 11/4/2006
Challenging and FUN!!
This was my first of Bryan Kest's videos, and I'm hooked. I've just now ordered his original power yoga series because I love his instruction and the way he motivates. I couldn't do all the repeats the first few times I tried this video, but now I can, and I've got new lines of definition on my thighs. When I'm done with the video, I feel strong and envigorated, as well as centered. I highly recommend it if you've been doing beginner yoga videos for a while and are ready to move to the next level. - posted by Sheila on 2/14/2006
Great Workout!
I really liked this workout, but wish he wouldn't talk so much especially during "downward facing dog." This isn't my favorite pose anyway, but other than that it was great. I really sweated during the workout. I really like the flow sequence of standing exercises such as "triangle" etc. Hope he makes more. - posted by Rosie G on 7/18/2005
i love it
this is the most awesome yoga video! it moves along fast enough that i don't get bored, yet slow enough that i can keep up. it's thorough and exhilerating, but i don't end up feeling pained and exhausted. just wonderful!if you're looking for a yoga video that burns cals without leaving you feeling like you need a day or two to recover, this is it - posted by kristi on 6/17/2003
Wow
When I'm short on time ,but I still want a good yoga workout, I did this video. I still sweat like I'm doing an aerobic class or spinning class. I thought I was real fit until I started doing his power yoga videos. I'm in better shape and feel wonderful since doing the videos. - posted by TP on 1/6/2003
Excellent and Challenging
Out of all of the yoga tapes I have tried, Bryan Kest's are the best! This one feels more like strength training than traditional yoga, but is also soothing, and mindful of relaxation. Challenging for all levels, and if you are looking for a way to improve your posture, strengthen your back, and all of the muscles that support your spine, this is an excellent one to try! - posted by Julie- Bellevue WA on 1/1/2003
Great
I love this video. I love the repeat pose which i have never done before in yoga. It allows me a greater strecth and deeper intensity. The people in the video look great. This video is recommended.Wayne :) - posted by Wayne - England on 12/16/2002
Bryan Kest's Power Yoga for Weight Los
I really like this one. He talks a lot but he is soothing and reassuring. The "too slow" was good for me because I've had a lot of injuries to my shoulders and hips. I liked the adaptations for when my body can't do what I want to do. Great for the thighs. - posted by Darle on 9/16/2002
Challenging workout leaves you feeling great!
I have enjoyed all of Bryan's videos very much, but this is my most favorite! He is a very motivating instructor, always challenging you to do your best, but listening to your body and modifying the poses to honor your current abilities. This tape is different from his earlier ones in that there is a dynamic flow of poses; poses are repeated several times at a quick pace, and then held longer. You really feel the heat! I really felt it in my hips and legs the next day too! I know most people say that yoga is too slow to burn calories, and yes I still do cardio & weight training in addition to yoga, but Bryan Kest's power yoga, helps me to feel balanced, calm, and invigorated, so I don't head for unhealthy munching. I have removed over 20 pounds in the last few months, and I am coping with the stresses of life much better by being non-reactive, as Bryan has taught me. This is a video that anyone could do, to their own degree. - posted by Joan Harris on 9/15/2002
Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
