The video that made Callan famous. It's a unique series of "deep muscle exercises"- exact, controlled, "pulsed" movements of your large muscle groups (e.g. precise leg lifts of one inch, not 12 inches). Designed to shape your entire body, these exercise video classics are personally taught by best-selling author, Callan Pinckney. With a gentle, soothing voice she carefully demonstrates each move and modification. Quiet instrumental music. 1986. DVD has: Chapter menus.

Callanetics with Callan Pinckney

Original Callanetics
I have used this exercise routine for many years. I am in my fifties and my bum has not gone as south as it would have and I have a nice pair of shapely legs thanks to this exercise routine. Also it is a great destresser. - posted by Margaret Boyle on 8/26/2010
Don't Underestimate This
An oldie but GOODIE! The first time I only did about half the workout and boy did I feel it. No jumping around putting stress on your joints. Gentle but effective. VERY EFFECTIVE. This workout is excellent for anyone who wants to target their hips, thighs and buns. WONDERFUL WORKOUT! - posted by Cindy on 8/5/2010
Unbelievable Part II
Yesterday, I completed my sixth Callanetics session and I have to say this is by far the best workout I've ever done. I'm no longer just in good shape, I'm in spectacular shape! I've never experienced results this dramatic- and in such a short period of time. My abs are more defined, my waist is tinier than ever, and my rear is noticeably lifted. I look like a dancer. Years of pilates mat work (not to mention yoga and tons of cardio) never gave me results like this. Though I'll continue to do cardio and yoga a few times a week, I'm not going to spend any more time on pilates. Callanetics is the best! - posted by Abby on 7/30/2010
Unbelievable
I'm a hardcore exerciser- 5-6 times a week over the last ten years; spinning, pilates, kickboxing, running, speed rope, yoga. My problem is an ongoing lower back injury that keeps acting up. I've been looking for something in-depth to build my core in a way that will finally cure my pain. I kept looking at the Callanetics sample video, but was so turned off by the dated look of it, and the deceptively "easy" looking exercises, I assumed it was no where near the intensity I needed. I finally gave in and ordered it, and just did my first workout. I WAS WRONG! This is INTENSE! And after a few minutes, the cheesy leotards and elevator music faded away because I was too focused on my burning and shaking muscles- especially the abs section! I can't wait to do this again and will post a follow-up on my progress. So far, I'm impressed. - posted by Abby on 7/22/2010
I got what I wanted
I had encountered the exercises in the book Callanetics years before but wasn't able to motivate myself to use them consistently. Recently a friend said she used the video & loaned the video to me. I found using the video kept me doing the exercises twice a week. So when my friend said, hey I need my video back, I ordered the same one she had. I am continuing to use it & the results are beginning to show. I really like Callan Pickney and am very thankful to her that she has made this specific type of exercising available to me.(I am 60 years old and appreciate a way to "turn back the clock"on how old the body looks.) - posted by Dorothy on 7/22/2010
EXCELLENT INSTRUCTION-EXCELLENT RESULTS!
I recently bought the fluidity bar on Craigs List and searched collagevideo (where I buy all my exercise videos) for barre type workouts. I decided based on reviews to give this a shot. The 80's format might be dated, but Callan Pickney is extremely thorough in teaching the correct technique for isometric type exercise, and it is the first place to begin for anyone considering callenetics/barre type workouts. I have always been a very strong, athletic woman who worked out with some of the toughest - Cathe, the Firm, and I find this workout has given me new definition and flexibility - something I have NEVER had. It's not a sweat, raise your heart rate type of workout - it's gentle and seems easy when you watch the video, but it is working your muscles DEEP inside and you absolutely do see results in a short time. - posted by Peggy on 5/6/2010
Just twice a week is all it takes for dramatic results!
I owned the original tape on VHS and, because I have bought workout tapes for years and always had my favorite 3 or 4 tapes, Callanetics has always been one of my favorites. When I first tried the tape I thought how effective can it be when it is paced slowly, with tiny motions added; yet I discovered that it's in its apparent slow pace that the intensity causes the toning and strengthening to appear in a very short time. The workout is thorough and will cause not only inches to seemingly melt away, but will give the leaner look one often sees in dancers. I knew when I saw Callanetics in DVD format I had to own it, as I don't want to be without it! - posted by Chris on 4/9/2010
Just get up and do it
Very good video. Used it many years ago on a vcr tape. When I tried to find it in cd format, Collage Video had it. The customer service was superb. In a day when customer service almost doesn’t exist, they came through shining. The video is great for all ages but better for 40 + years old as the stretching exercises are great for back and core support. I give it an A+. - posted by Ann on 4/9/2010
Not Good Or Bad
Although I Didn't Dislike The Original Callanetics, I Find I Like The Callanetics Evolution Better. - posted by Patricia on 4/3/2010
Callanetics
I have used Callanetics over a number of years and the results are outstanding. My posture changed so did my whole body shape. The most difficult exercises for my hips and thighs have now become my favourite exercises. The stomach exercises are my least favourite. But I exercise very muscles and very part of my body. This is the only exercise regime that works for me. It requires graceful gentle movements not rough ones and within a month there is a total difference. Try it! You will feel wonderful. I feel like a ballet dancer! Posture changes, skin is tightened and moreover your muscles will tone up too. - posted by Ama Plange on 2/22/2010

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
