Certified instructor description: Varied, beginner-oriented moves in two different movement styles. Petra’s easy-to-follow cuing and contagious energy make this the ideal beginners’ program. The DVD has four segments: an 11 and 21-minute dance-style section plus an 11 and 21-minute athletic-style section (that you can program to play in any order, so the workout can be whatever length you want). The dance moves are all familiar favorites like step touches, grapevines and mambos. The athletic exercises are also proven basics like marches, repeaters and V-steps. The cuing is superb; Petra knows exactly how to instruct and motivate a beginner-level class (she’s been teaching for 20 years). ©2008. DVD has: Programmable chapters, Wide screen.

Cardio for Beginners with Petra Kolber

Great and Easy to Follow
I am getting back into fitness after a hiatus of several years. I usually don't look at anything that says "Beginner" but after reading some of the other reviews I decided to purchase Cardio for Beginners. I love it. I have no patience to learn really complicated and dancey choreography but this one has just the right amount of dance without being too complicated. Petra is great at cueing. I can see that when I finally get my fitness level back up this will probably be to easy. But I like it well enough that I will keep it for days when I don't have a lot of time or energy. - posted by Lynn on 2/2/2012
Fast-paced workout
I confess I had a hard time following the footwork on this video the first few times as the pace is very fast. It is however a safe aerobic workout, I am 60, in good shape, but do not like high impact workouts. The instructor is upbeat and encourages the viewer to have fun with the routine. Very high energy! - posted by Jane on 1/29/2012
Wonderful for the beginner or Active Older Adult
I teach a gentle cardio class's for AOA. This video is great for them, she moves slowly and explains the moves very clearly. There is enough repetition to learn the steps. I can recommend this to my students I like the breakdown between dance moves and athletic moves. You can combine the four different tracks to get the combo you want. - posted by Robin on 1/26/2012
Awesome for Getting Back to Working Out!
I absolutely love this workout. I have just started back to working out after regaining a lot of weight, and Petra takes you step by step back in a safe way on your joints back to fitness. I just love her attitude and gentle, real personality on screen. Her cueing is very good. All the moves are doable, and you can pick your style of workout for the day (athletic or dance), and both are fun. We can even work up to doing all the routines for an extra long fat burning workout. This video is the main reason I have realized I can get back to working out again. Just awesome for a beginner. - posted by Jenny on 1/19/2012
Good woorkout for beginners
This is a great workout for beginners. I consider myself a "strong beginner" with a bad knee and 45 pounds to lose. This workout wasn't too difficult, but still kept my interest and got my heartrate up. I liked it! - posted by Amy on 1/10/2012
Petra Always Delivers
Good tips, familiar moves (clues if you aren't familiar) Petra always is sassy and cardio oriented - this is an low intermediate set and suits me perfectly for days when I'm not up to master sweat but want to feel like I've done something. Can't go wrong with Petra. - posted by kathy on 12/29/2011
Fun workout!
I usually only do well with athletic workouts, but I can actually follow and do the dance segments. Petra Kolber is excellent with her cues and she makes the workout fun, so it is easy to do it. I also like that I can select and combine whichever workouts I feel like doing. This is a beginner workout, but it is great for days when you want a lighter workout. - posted by Wendy on 12/9/2011
Long, manageable cardio for weight loss
I tried out this Cardio for Beginners from the library and liked it so much I had to have my own! Petra Kolber keeps your interest with encouraging, different kinds of music, and varying dance steps. It is the long duration that ultimately burns the fat, and helps keep weight off. It is great for someone like me in my 50s who needs something low impact. You might need to work up to this if you are not accustomed to a 70 minutes workout, but it is worth it! - posted by Monica on 10/20/2011
Not burn fat!
Cardio for Beginners is good but it doesn't make me sweat. I don't burn that much calories. - posted by sonia castillo on 10/13/2011
Fantastic
I have really enjoyed this dvd. It is an upbeat and fun workout that was overall put together well. It is very user friendly where you can program your own workout. I also like the modest outfits worn in the dvd that are suitable for young children in the home that may be watching. I found the dvd easy to follow; Petra Kolber gives great prompts and directions with a positive and encouraging attitude. The aerobic portions can work up a sweat while I found the dance portions to be more mild, though still getting my heart rate up and breaking a little sweat but not as much as the aerobic sessions. It is great for beginners. If one needs more cardio, play the whole dvd extending the length of cardio time while increasing your body movements making the motions bigger or of more intensity, be creative! - posted by Sandra on 9/15/2011

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
