Time graph for Cathe's Cardio Hits (Step Works)
DVD includes three complete step-aerobics workouts and a bonus abs program. The three complete workouts are: Power Max is a non-stop medley of hops, turns, propulsions and tempo variations. Includes unique moves like "six-count pendulum," "drop squats" and "360-degree hamstring curls." (2) Step Fit features an interesting mix of both new and classic step choreography. Some of the unique moves include "flying angels," "the rock press" and "power scissors" (an explosive double-jump lunge move). (3) Step Works is a higher-impact program with lots of power/plyometric options. The combos are intricate and very fast-paced (Cathe even suggests using only a 6-inch step so you can keep up). The final "bonus" segment features straight-forward abdominal floorwork. ©1996 1997, 1998. Note: VHS version ONLY includes the "Step Works" program. DVD has: Chapter menus.

Cathe's Cardio Hits (Step Works)

Love it!
These are hard, high impact routines, with most of the impact work done on the step. Each of the routines is aprox 60 min long. In Power Max she teaches very well, cuing the moves and direction changes so that I got it the first time round. Step Fit was a bit harder for me to catch on as she doesn't explain as much and Step works, while being the best of the three is really hard to do the first time, it has a lot of directions to figure, Cathe doesn't explain these and she uses moves from other workouts without explaining them at all (e.g. the 3 count hours she teaches in Power Max is used here without so much as a quick demo - she just says "this was tough in another workout", not even mentioning which!!). I find these to be minor problems since this is an at home video - do it 2-3 times and you have it figured out. All in all the steps are complex and you need coordination. I recommended doing the first time without a step. Intensity is high and can be moderated by changing step hight and doing less impact. The ab section is cut out from another workout and IMO has nothing special to it. - posted by Orion on 11/1/2008
Oldie but a Goodie!
I realize this dvd is over 10 years old, but when you are doing step, it doesn't matter! I bought this not long ago and did the Power Max, which takes awhile to learn but really liked it when I mastered. Did not do the other 2 workouts because I have only a certain amount of time in the morning to workout and didn't want to waste it all trying to learn new routines. However, today since we are all under snow and have a snow day, I popped this in and have worked all morning. I wish I had done them sooner - they aren't too hard to learn. Yes, it will take a while to master them all but they are really basic moves with a little polishing! I really like this dvd and will do it over and over I'm sure. Cathe is the best when it comes to step and cueing - no matter that she is wearing a thong! - posted by Marsha on 2/1/2008

Great Video! Caution: VHS tape is only one workout
Great video! I am pretty new to Cathe, and have mastered her beginning step videos, even though this one is advanced it is NOT impossible! I watched it through one time, and when I actually tried it I made it about half way through, and I was SWEATING!! If I keep at it I am sure I will be able to finish the video in no time. If you order the VHS version, beware, it does not have the 3 works out like the DVD, it only has 1 60-minute workout. - posted by Carolyn on 11/16/2006
THE best step video
I've been doing step aerobics for a while and this is (by far!) my favorite step video. All 3 routines are so much fun that the time flies by, and it's always a good sweat. Call me vain, but I have roomates and sometimes I feel like an idiot doing workouts made during that time period (thong leotards and all of that woo-hooing I mean, really!) but this is such a great workout that I don't even care. - posted by marie on 8/21/2006
Like a good friend, these workouts are always there :)
These workouts may not be brand new, but no one does cardio like Cathe! I enjoy all three of these step programs. They are challenging, pure cardio fun! I have fun doing these from start to finish. Whenever I don't know what type of exercising I want to do, I pull out this DVD and enjoy every step. Timeless cardio. - posted by Becky on 11/15/2005
Ready Step Exercise
First Cathy tape. Took the advise of some of the writers. I am sooooo glad she doesn't seem to have to change her voice and just steps and steps and steps. The instructors seem to have to throw in a child voice or change their tone for some reason, after awhile it drives you nuts. This instructor is there to work you. It is fast, fun and not quite as bouncy on the knees. I am looking up some more of her tapes now. Gin Miller is good too, but she does that voice changing thing and calls you babe all the time. lol - posted by Bon on 3/30/2005
Cathe knows how to design a good workout
THIS IS MY FIRST WORKOUT FROM CATHE, AND I HAVE TO SAY IT'S A PERFECT BLEND OF ATHLETIC MOVES AND A LITTLE DANCE ASPECT, BUT NOT TOO DANCY WHICH CAN BE VERY TEDIOUS IN MY OPINION. IT TOOK ME A WHILE TO GET THE MOVES DOWN, BUT ONCE I LEARNED THE WHOLE ROUTINE, I FEEL LIKE A PROFESSIONAL STEPPER EVERY TIME I DO IT. - posted by Jessicc@ on 11/24/2004
A Terrific Workout ! ! !
This was my very first Cathe Friedrich tape. I purchased it when it came out in 1998. I've been a Collage customer since 1987 and consider myself pretty advanced as an exerciser. Well, let me tell you, this tape was a humbling experience to say the least. It took me six weeks to get to where I could say I had it down perfect. From then on I was hooked and have since that time purchased all of her videos. There's no one like Cathe for superb cueing, and you really need that with the complex choreography. Give it a try - you won't be sorry. - posted by Sharon on 2/7/2004
better than the others
I really liked this tape and found it not to hard to understand. I thought it was easier to follow than Christie Taylor. This is my first Cathe tape and I intend to order others. I just wish they could use better music! - posted by gertie on 1/23/2004
hard core!
it took me 6 times to get this video. you need to eat all your wheaties in the morning before you try any cathe tape. i swear some days i just can't bring myself to do 'em but when you're done you feel like you can kick some butt!!!! - posted by Stacye Henderson on 8/28/2003

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
