Certified instructor description: Twelve complete 46 to 68-minute workouts on twelve DVDs (plus an optional 15-minute stretch). This "Mesocycle #3" is the third part of Cathe's 36-DVD "Shock Training System" -- the most comprehensive body sculpting system ever created! Mesocycle #3 uses the highest weights with the lowest repetitions (8 to 12 reps per set set). It's the toughest mesocycle in the series -- designed to totally challenge your entire body. You get four workouts for each muscle group -- four "Chest and Back," four "Legs" and four "Shoulders, Biceps and Triceps." Each workout has 18 to 38 different exercises. As you’d expect from Cathe, they’re all advanced level and exceptionally well-cued. Requires dumbbells, barbells, a resistance band, an X-ertube, a stability ball, an inclinable bench and a step. A pull-up bar is optional. The production is superb; you'll love how Cathe has perfectly synchronized the music to each individual movement set. Note: This set also includes four bonus DVDs (for total of 16 workouts). These extra DVDs demonstrate the Legs series using a gym-type Squat Rack machine. ©2008.

    Plyo Legs are Fantastic |
| If you're debating to only get one set of Mesocycle, I would get this one because I think you get the most for your money. The Plyo legs provide a whole extra dimension to the series because it's like a cardio & weights circuit for lower body. The rest periods are short and the time just flies by. The rest periods in the upper body workouts are way to long for me even with really heavy weights, but the DVDs are chaptered so that you can skip within the rest periods to make them shorter or skip ahead to the next section. The warmups are actually very good except not in sync with the music (like others have said). I get around that by not looking at the TV which is doable since Cathe cues well, but I took one star off for that. Each DVD includes the same 15 minute (very good) stretch so you don't have to pop in another DVD when you're done, I like that, but there could have been a little more variety, or an option to choose a shorter stretch instead. - posted by holly on 1/14/2011 |

    Fantastic Series |
| I just completed the STS series for the first time. I am amazed at the difference in my endurance and strength. I use to hate push-ups, but now I love them. I used Muscle Max during my recovery week and could not believe that I had to increase my weights because what I lifted before I did this STS program were too light. The STS is expensive, but worth the investment. You will get results. At first, I thought the repetition would be annoying, but by week 3 it didn't bother me at all. Like any exercise program, you get out of it what you put into it. - posted by Monica on 7/31/2009 |

    Incredible Series |
| I can't believe how much of an impact STS (all three Mesocycles) has had on my body. I actually have very defined arms now, with biceps I had only dreamed of (I wanted more bicep), and I am much smaller all over, but with serious muscle definition. I really can't believe how effective this program has been. I am going to do STS again in a few weeks or in the Fall. It is totally full of variety (even though there is footage that is repeated some, but not a ton, and what is repeated is used in different combinations and in different ways. The repetition is necessary to change the body, and it is obvious that Cathe strategically determined what to repeat and where). STS is a work of genius on Cathe's part, and it is really Meso 3 that has kicked my butt into better shape, and I thought I was getting into great shape with M1 and M2, but I couldn't have done Meso 3 as successfully without doing M1 and M2, as they prepared me for super heavy lifting in M3. I know it is pricey, but STS is well worth the expense. It is designed to produce results and it succeeds, bigtime. - posted by w.o.w. on 7/18/2009 |

Like Plyo Legs the best! |
| I have just completed all three mesocycles of STS. I think my favorite workouts in the whole series were the plyo legs in this mesocycle! The workouts are fun because they are both cardio and strength, and there is a nice long warm-up and a real stretch at the end of each one!! Its the only workout in the series that comes with a stretch instead of having to do the same "extended stretch" for all 36 DVDs. Plyo legs is more like a boot camp style workout, and definitely gives you the intense cardio you've been craving after all that strength work! Otherwise, this cycle has the longest breaks inbetween because you use the heaviest weights and the least number of reps. Due to this there is a boredom factor, but I must say it is a strength builder. I can't believe the amount of weight I can lift, I would never have believed it. I don't see that much change in the way my body looks, but I am alot stronger in just three months. The first cycle had literally hundreds of push-ups, then the second and third had none!! Which I thought was a little strange. The series is advertised as doing a different workout everyday, however, most are repeated segments (in each mesocycle), just in a different order. My main complaint about this workout series is that the music does not match the warm-ups in any of the workouts (in mesocycles 1 & 2 also). It is hard to follow when the moves are not on the beat. Also, many other times Cathe will say "slow down" because the music is too fast. The series is pretty good, but Cathe's other strength training series are more enjoyable I think. Except I would rate this last mesocycle the best just because of the plyo legs - totally fun and not just about strength training. Although I may not be as explosive (or use as many risers on the step you jump up on to), I still work up a great sweat and have a good time with all those endorphins. - posted by Cheryl on 5/29/2009 |

Awesome Strength and Muscle Builder |
| I highly recommend this set of work-outs. I am at the end of a one month rotation of Meso 3. I have made significant gains in strength and some increases in muscle all over, too, though I don't look "bulky". My arms in particular are looking great!
For people who don't like to train their legs heavy, there's a set of Plyo Legs work-outs included that alternate plyo moves with lighter weight moves. The other legs work-outs are basic heavy lifting. You don't need a squat rack for them; you can use dumbbells or a lighter barbell plus a weight belt or weighted vest to provide a heavy enough weight.
It's a good idea to test your 1 Rep Maximums for these beforehand, as Cathe suggests. If you aren't using enough weight these won't seem as challenging as they should.
Meso 3 is not slow like Cathe's "Slow and Heavy", but there are lengthy rest breaks between sets, especially in the heavy leg routines. You'll need these if you're lifting heavy enough, because your heart will be hammering and you'll be breathing pretty hard!
It's important to point out that these are not 4 different work-outs for each muscle group; the exercises are the same each week but the number of reps changes. Plyo Legs is different and has some variety from week to week.
Both the music and Cathe are pretty low-key in these. I found nothing that is likely to start annoying me after frequent use.
The resistance band is only used as a marker on the floor, in Plyo Legs. There's no X-ertube used in Meso 3.
If you like fast-paced toning choreographed to music with a strong beat, these probably won't be for you. But if you want a basic, intense heavy lifting routine that will boost your strength and muscle, these are the ticket! I can't rave enough! - posted by Lara on 3/10/2009 |
