Certified instructor description: You get a lively workout without leaving your chair. By moving the large muscles in your arms and feet, you’ll burn calories and strengthen your heart. It’s an upbeat medley of varied music and interesting movements loosely based on sixty years of dance (e.g. Charleston, Swing and Big Band through New Age and Hip Hop). Filmed on a bright, multi-level set, these exercisers are just having fun — moving to the music and getting fit. Jodi Stolove has been teaching chair-workouts for years; she clearly knows how to motivate and energize her “all sizes and all shapes” class (while always providing lots of easier/harder modifications). ©2002. Chair Dancing: Through the Decades

Chair dancing thro the decades--wonderful
I have problems with my knees I was a little leary that sitting and exercising was not going to give me the workout that I needed but I sure was wrong. Wonderful recommend to all. - posted by Susan on 1/19/2012
Excellent variety! Great Workout
I'm recovering from foot surgery and needed to get good aerobic exercise going. I love the variety of moves and music. I would never have believed you could get your heart rate up sitting in a chair! Thanks for the great workout. - posted by Veronica on 8/22/2011
Best instructor and senior workout I have tried
Jodi Stolove is the best workout instructor in my opinion for everyone. I also do the workouts standing up. Some of the senior videos are so slow paced they almost put you to sleep. If you are active at all she is the instructor you want. I like ALL her video workouts and they are all different. It is good to switch your workout and use a different one every other day at least, in my opinion. - posted by sarge on 7/31/2011
Great workout
This is really a great workout, even sitting down. Gets your blood flowing, your muscles moving, and it's fun to do. - posted by Kaaren on 10/7/2010
Great workout
Chair Dancing Thru the Decades is an excellent workout, especially for the over 60's crowd or those with leg issues and not able to walk far distances! It's challenging enough to work up a little sweat, but not so much that you feel you can't get through it. The cuing is excellent. I plan on ordering more Chair Dancing videos. - posted by Valerie on 9/23/2010
Chair Dancing through the Decades
I am 53 and recently had foot surgery and not able to put weight on my foot for the next few weeks. As an avid walker (30 minutes a day), I was looking for something that would keep me sort of active. While not as aerobic as a regular 2 mile walk, with some modifications, Jodi's dvd does keep me moving and is fun too. I have also tried Jodi's original video and may try her Dancing around the World as well. It also made me aware how very little is available to disabled people and others who might benefit from a seated workout. Thank you Jodi. - posted by Linda on 7/18/2010
You will break a sweat with this video....
I bought this video for my mom who is 80 years old and can not get around very well. I do the video with her and although she can't keep up to well, it is good for her to try. I broke a sweat doing it and I am considerably younger than she. It is a good workout for everyone at all levels. - posted by Cynthia on 6/17/2010
Love This Exercise Video!
This exercise video provides an excellent workout. There are three fitness levels you can follow. Excellent instructions throughout the exercise routines. My husband and I do the warm-up, aerobics (twice), and cool-down. Highly recommend this product. - posted by Cindy on 5/28/2010
Useful, but not very exciting
Since I have severe arthritis in both knees, this Chair Dancing DVD will be very useful to me and will complement the swimming I already do. The workout is reasonable; if I keep my arms high and moving, I can get my heart rate up to the lower aerobic range. But the music is tame and very boring, and the instructor is too calm and not very motivating. I find myself wishing Richard Simmons were the guest instructor! - posted by Toni on 4/29/2010
I was so happy to find this video.
I'm 60 years old, have high blood pressure and weigh 230 pounds. Earlier this year (2008) I had a little angina, and didn't want to take Rx, so I started walking 30 - 120 minutes per day. A month ago, I injured my knee running for the bus. I tried to start walking again, but it just became too painful. I was getting a little depressed without my daily walks. I ordered this video, and --- WOW!! --- I could not believe it. It was a really good workout, almost like a walk, but even more fun. I just really look forward to it, and do it every day. Jody's cuing is so excellent, the music is simple, but catchy and fun, and the moves are based on real dances. Plus, she just seems like a great, good person. It makes me feel so good. - posted by Diana on 12/13/2008

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
