Four complete workouts. Originally released as separate VHS tapes, they are now available as a two-DVD set. "Hi-Lo Heaven" is a fast-paced triathlon of cardio, fast cardio and cardio/strength intervals (done to a dynamic sing-along soundtrack). The innovative hi/lo segments include lots of "layered" combinations - you’ll learn a routine, add some moves, speed them up and then combine them with something new (lots of twists and pivots, not recommended for carpet). The ending section intermixes short aerobic intervals with upper/lower-body toning. "Step Heaven" is a tough, non-stop challenge with lots of fresh moves and a medley of your favorite vocal songs. It features three "stages." Stage one is tough with moderately complex choreography. Stage two is a true "boredom buster"-- something is changing on nearly every musical beat (e.g. "spin and straddle, over squat, kick front-knee straddle, walk the step ..."). Stage three alternates step aerobics with intense body-sculpting routines. "Still Steppin’" has lots of truly creative step choreography. All the steps seem to fit together like a jig saw puzzle - just when you "get" the move, the combination changes (always with lots of options so you can try a different pattern the next time). From fast-paced mambos and box step shuffles to unique patterns like "boom boom" and "zig zag arms," you’ll use every inch of your step (both sideways and pointed toward the TV). "Still Jumpin" is all classic high-energy aerobic combos --mambos and ponies, hop turns and grapevines, all with lots of interesting directional changes and arm patterns. The moves just seem to naturally flow from one to the next. And Christi’s add-on style means you can always drop back to a previous move. All four programs feature superb curing and Christi’s super-motivating, energetic-but-genuine attitude (it’s like working out with a friend). Lots of recognizable vocal songs, from "Funkytown" and "Dancing Queen" to "Turn the Beat Around" and "Smooth." "Hi-Lo Heaven" and "Step Heaven" require 3 to 10 lb. dumbbells. ©2000 & 2001. Christi Taylor's Fantastic Four

New Christi Fan!
I consider myself an intermediate/advanced exerciser. I enjoy step aerobics and dance-style exercise. I'm not necessarily great at it, but I can follow advanced choreography. I do not like kickboxing. My typical workouts include the Firm and Cathe. I am really enjoying this workout. I have used it 6 or 8 times now. I haven't done the advanced sections yet, but I have done the beginning step and low impact sections, as well as, the interval sections. I love the low impact routines (which is actually why I bought the DVD in the first place) Christi's cueing is excellent and the choreography is fun and a bit dancy. This DVD is really a bargain for the price. There's quite a bit of material on 2 discs. The sections are 20 to 25 minutes a piece with about 5 to 6 minutes for warm up and cool down. That means you can easily make this a 35 or 60 minute workout if you don't want to do the whole thing. I understand some people may say it's not intense enough, but truthfully, if you need to up the intensity, you can always add some jumps or arm motions to increase it. - posted by Christine on 7/21/2011
Highly Recommended! Christi is my favorite instructor!
I got this DVD about three years ago and can't believe I never reviewed this worthwhile purchase at such a reasonable price. There's so much to exercise to and there's combo menus to take your pick. Christi is my favorite because the choreography is original and in time to a really good variety of oldies from the radio. I always break a mean sweat and she thoroughly warms you up and cools you down to prevent injury. She instructs the steps and even if you can't get it, sometimes you can on a later try, or you'll be moving on soon to something you can do. I have a other Christi DVD's because she's so much fun! You can tell she wants you to have fun too! My only (minor) complaint is that I wish this DVD also included an abs section. I usually just put in abs from another DVD after this workout, if I still have time. - posted by Andrea405 on 7/7/2011
Best value for your money
This DVD by Christi Taylor provides the best value for your money if you are looking for excellent cardio exercises. It has 4 advance exercises – 2 HiLo and 2 step aerobics. It took me a week to master the routine. But after another week I am using this DVD more than Cathe F DVDs. I prefer Christi’s choreography. And it’s really a fun workout. - posted by Jimmy on 2/21/2011

Fun
This is an awesome and fun workout, though I wish the step portion were longer. It's easy to pick up the new moves after a couple times. Her music choices are great. And her enthusiasm, as well as the enthusiasm of her workout girls, is addictive. It's nice to see people smile during a workout because they are enjoying what they are doing, rather than moving manaquins with well practiced smiles. If you are relatively new to step aerobics or just want a fun workout this is for you. But it's not an advanced workout. - posted by Wendy on 2/13/2011
Enjoyable
Christi's workouts always cheer me up. These four workouts are imbued with her signature style and cheerfulness. As an advanced exerciser I found them not to be the most physically challenging workouts out there, but definitely sweaty and worthy of keeping in my rotation. The music is fun too. My one complaint is that she does way too many "hamstrings" to fill in while she's still building the combo. - posted by Bonnie on 10/15/2010
For the price
For the price it is worth it. I got two step tapes, which I like to do. Doesn't get my cardio up like I would like, but it is still ok. I don't like when people use the same step and then add one and then they do that step again and add another then do it again. The first move gets very boring cuz you have done it a million times. I like sets of three and then move to another set. Haven't done the two other tapes to write about them yet, they are floor routines. - posted by bon on 8/12/2010
New To Christi: Fantastic Four = Fantastic Value
PRO: Four full-length w/o for <$15; Christi's cueing & wonderful personality; Christi previews new moves & then asks group to follow; fun combos CON: Modifiers in background can be a distraction; minimal weight work in the two interval w/o; stretch too short; Christi too chatty during stretch MISC: Very dated regarding set design, clothing, hair styles (amazing how much changes in 10 years); Hi/Lo Heaven has all male exercisers....a first for any workout that I've seen, but they're fun to watch and exercise with; "Everlast" branding on clothing a bit distracting initially If you don't like complex choreography, be it on the floor or step, you won't like these workouts. To do any of these w/o without previewing is unwise. Even though I consider myself an advanced exerciser, I always preview new workouts even if I'm familiar with the instructor. There are always new levels of "advanced" to achieve, so I don't know why others score this low due to not grasping the choreography the first time. Sure, I messed up the first few times I did each w/o (even after previewing), but the point is to learn new moves and keep it fresh for both the body and mind. Aim for progress instead of perfection (although always remember to have good form). - posted by SMT on 6/20/2010
Feels like walking only more confusing
I really wanted to enjoy this, because the music is great and I wanted a longer work out with more interesting choreography than the Jari Love, Jillian Michaels, etc. that I usually do. So I ignored the warnings on the site and ordered it. It barely got my heart rate to 75%. The choreography is complicated, but it is also really repetitive- lots of stepping back and forth, knee ups, etc. I feel like I have been on a fast, long, walk by the end of one of these workouts. Not worth it for me. - posted by Maryna on 6/15/2010
Great Fun! Great Value!
If you like complex choreography or even if you think you might like to try it, you should definitely buy this collection of completely wonderful, fun workouts. I'm a Christi fan, and already owned the 2 Hi-Lo workouts on VHS, and have only tried the Still Steppin' step workout (and have pretty much nailed it after 4 tries), so I can't yet give a review on Step Heaven. The other 3 are really, really, great, heart-pounding, sweat-inducing, happiness-generating aerobic parties. Christi cues better than any other instructor that I've tried, and I've been doing videos since the 80's. Still Jumpin' is my all-time favorite Hi-Lo workout. Hi-Lo Heaven is very tough, aerobically, more so than any other I've tried. The Still Steppin' workout is very good, maybe not my favorite of her step workouts, though, I don't know why. Now I have to find the right frame of mind to learn Step Heaven, which looks really tricky - I'll need some real energy. Anyway - buy this - chances are you won't be sorry! - posted by Sara on 6/10/2010

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Definition: Includes two workout activities. The step aerobics segments involve stepping up and down on a platform. The moves range from simple stepping to more choreographed exercises. These segments require a step bench platform. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
