Time graph for CIA 2901: Amy Bento - Kickbox Surge & Core Training
Intense, very creative kickbox combos alternated with even-more-intense cardio “surges.” You get the interest and variety of “dancy” aerobics with the energy and power of kickboxing. Each of the five combinations is totally different. They all feature a fast-paced mix of innovative kickbox-style moves (e.g. “an in-the-air directional change with a switch kick and a jump”). The even faster-paced surges are also mostly airborne (e.g. ninja kicks and jump tucks). Throughout, Amy’s amazing energy and perfect form are truly inspirational. Motivating dance hit music (e.g. “Whine -Up," "Don't Stop the Music” and “Do You Want a Piece of Me”). The ending core-focused floorwork uses a medicine ball. ©2009. DVD has: 5 premixes (32 to 52 min. alternate workouts), Chapter menus.

CIA 2901: Amy Bento - Kickbox Surge & Core Training

Best I have seen yet!
Amy Bento is fantastic. Her energy alone is invigorating. I am a trainer and spent years teaching kickboxing and she is fantastic. She is one of the few I recommend. This workout along with In The Ring are the best! - posted by Linda on 1/22/2010
More dvd's
I really like this workout. Very energetic and love the music. The music makes it more fun to work out. I hope Amy comes out with new kickboxing workout videos. I almost know all the kickboxing by heart. - posted by Martha on 1/20/2010
Back to Cathe
I am an advance exerciser with experience in kickboxing. I typically follow Cathe F. and have never injured myself in any way. I recently tried one of the fake side kicks, twisting back kick moves and tore my ACL. Very unsafe and therefore do not recommend this kickboxing segment. I will keep this CD, but just for the ab routine. - posted by Kathleen on 1/15/2010
Tough, but terrific
This is probably the toughest workout DVD I have ever done, and that's a great thing. The combos are tough, not just physically but mentally. You really have to have your brain turned on to remember the moves. The surges are short but brutal and not only push you to your anaerobic threshold, they challenge your muscles and balance as well. The "core refining" section is a killer--I did it without the medicine ball and I barely got through. Word to the wise: preview at least once before attempting this one, because while Amy does provide excellent cuing, she doesn't actually preview any of the moves in the combos before getting into them. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is in very good shape and is looking for a challenge both physical and mental. You'll be exhausted in the best way after doing this one! - posted by Nicole on 1/15/2010
OMG, what a workout!
This is for advanced exercisers! Also, don't try this if you have never done kickboxing before. I do Cathe Friedrich regularly and I would say this is on par with a lot of her advanced rigorous workouts. I watched it twice before I even attempted it because I could tell the moves would be tricky. This is SO MUCH fun! Great music, perfect choreography and Amy and the girls are wonderful as usual. This is not easy. You will sweat, but it goes by pretty fast. One of my new favourites! - posted by AG on 12/29/2009
Couldn't get into it
I thought I was used to Amy's complicated choreography but this one was too much for me. The moves are so complex and she doesn't break them down at all (or have a preview section like she does on some of her step videos) so I found myself just standing and watching, which obviously does NOTHING for my heart rate. I've tried it a few times but this one is definitely NOT going in the rotation. - posted by Judi on 12/28/2009
Amy at her best !
I have all of Amy's workouts and this is my all-time favorite. Not only is the pace of the workout perfect but the intensity is great. It can also be easily modified to be low impact or ramped up with weighted gloves. The music is really fun and the cuing is perfect. You will feel like you have worked every part of your body. If you like kickbox, you must add this sweatfest to your rotation. - posted by Maggie on 12/10/2009
Great Workout...Interesting Choreography
Well, I just completed CIA2901 for the first time. I have to say I really enjoyed the workout. I have not tried the pre-mixes yet, but I'm pretty sure I'll want to master the moves before I jump into a pre-mix. The choreography is very tricky, which can be frustrating in the beginning. But I suspect it will stave away boredom as time progresses and you "learn" the moves. Still, I think the challenging choreography is an advantage or disadvantage depending on how you look at it so I had to knock off one star for that. - posted by Janelle on 11/18/2009
Best Kickbox video ever!
This routine is very intense and it may seem hard to get some of the moves down at first. Once you learn the routine you'll be sweating and having so much fun. Amy's kickbox makes Cathe seem like Romper Room! You'll get a great workout with unique core training at the end. Music is great and Amy seems to be having fun. - posted by Loretta on 11/17/2009
Simply the Best!
This has got to be the best workout video i have bought from you. I was a little hesitant about buying it because the last step video I got of Amy's nearly killed me! This kick boxing video combines great imagination fabulous music and excellent motivation from a very professional instructress. Well done Amy and please could you do another soon please!! - posted by Ann-Marie on 11/6/2009

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Premixes
X
These are alternate workouts created by the manufacturer. They use the same content as the main program (i.e. the very same video footage). But the sections are re-edited into pre-made alternative workouts that you select from a menu. These are often condensed versions of the main workout.
Chapter menus
X
You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
