Time graph for CIA 2901: Amy Bento - Kickbox Surge & Core Training
Intense, very creative kickbox combos alternated with even-more-intense cardio “surges.” You get the interest and variety of “dancy” aerobics with the energy and power of kickboxing. Each of the five combinations is totally different. They all feature a fast-paced mix of innovative kickbox-style moves (e.g. “an in-the-air directional change with a switch kick and a jump”). The even faster-paced surges are also mostly airborne (e.g. ninja kicks and jump tucks). Throughout, Amy’s amazing energy and perfect form are truly inspirational. Motivating dance hit music (e.g. “Whine -Up," "Don't Stop the Music” and “Do You Want a Piece of Me”). The ending core-focused floorwork uses a medicine ball. ©2009. DVD has: 5 premixes (32 to 52 min. alternate workouts), Chapter menus.

Love this, Exciting and Advanced
I love this kickboxing routine. Lots of fun moves and the direction given by Amy is excellent. She's also very fun and engaging without being patronizing. - posted by Jennifer on 8/5/2010
I LOVE THIS WORKOUT
If you love kickboxing then you want this DVD. I have had others in the past and non have compared to this workout. I was sore the same day and the next day I love it. Completely wet too when I was done and still ready for more. Amy is perfect at keeping you completely motivated thru the entire workout. This DVD is completely fabulous. - posted by Heather on 7/1/2010
Wow! This is a challenge!
This is my first Amy DVD, and it won't be my last! I normally run, or do Tae Bo or Powerstrike for my cardio. Amy has wonderful energy. The music is great, too! This felt like a super challenging gym class to me. - posted by Rachel on 5/13/2010
My New Favorite
I was so thrilled with Kickbox Xtreme that I bought this one too. Amy's style in general is just awesome for the advanced exerciser. If you plan to do a DVD over and over you can get tired of hearing the same instructions but with all 4 of Amy's DVD's that I have so far I'm thrilled that I can get an awesome workout to some great music and just have fun with little cueing. And every single one of them is completely different, no combos are alike on any of them so I truly have 4 completely different workouts that I can choose from depending on my mood. I'm a martial artist and I think she has put together the most fun, challenging combos all of which fit the music perfectly. My head is drenched after this workout! - posted by Andrea on 4/22/2010
love it !!
This is one of the best cardio dvd's I have ever tried. Amy is an amazing instructor and this workout is by far the most fun of any kickboxing workout I have ever done. I love that Amy understands the importance of great music and ever since I got this it's all I want to do :) Great job Amy, keep em coming. - posted by Maria on 4/21/2010
Fun! Great work-out.
This is a great work-out for someone who is looking for a cardio kickbox challenge. The cardio sections are easy to learn but WILL be winded! I'm an advanced exerciser and this is one of my favorite dvd's because the time flies by but I am beat by the end. The intensity blasts are challenging but short. Amy is upbeat without being chirpy and encouraging without being a military sergeant. I like this one a little better than Amy's Kickbox Extreme (another favorite) because I think the pace is better. All in all this is a really FUN workout with great music and a great trainer. - posted by Tauni on 4/10/2010
The Music Rocks and Boy are you sore after
I love Amy she is one of my favorite instructiors the music was pretty good. The first time I did it I thought the first combo was really hard and almost gave up but each time I do it gets better I've done it about 5 times now and I can really say its a good workout; Her energy is wonderful and I sometimes have to modify a little more than her modifier .. also I do not like stretch portion the first move seems hard on the back but otherwise great Amy Bento video Amy keep them coming - posted by itrish on 4/9/2010
Fun, Fast, and Sweaty
This workout is fun and goes really fast. I didn't have a hard time following her cues or moves at all. I think by my third time working out to it I wasn't missing a beat. I like the music. This workout gets you sweating! I wished I was sore after doing it so that was a little disappointing but my heart sure was pumping throughout the entire routine. - posted by Emily on 4/5/2010
Didn't like workout
Yes the workout is advanced, but the exercises involve too many twisting motions. Just because the workout is advanced, it shouldn't be unsafe. I didn't enjoy this one at all. Turbo Jam is much more enjoyable. - posted by Ebony on 3/28/2010
Loved It
I am always surprised when I read reviews from people looking for an advanced workout and then complaining about the workout being advanced. Part of the workout being advanced is not losing your heart rate, to 'break down' every move. The choreography isn't suppose to be 'basic' and 'easy.' Learning the complex moves is part of the thrill. Stepping off of my soapbox. It's a great workout. The moves aren't overly complicated, they are added in a fast pace. The music is upbeat (throughout). Amy and her crew are sweating with you without breaks. - posted by Trish on 3/26/2010

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.

Premixes
X
These are alternate workouts created by the manufacturer. They use the same content as the main program (i.e. the very same video footage). But the sections are re-edited into pre-made alternative workouts that you select from a menu. These are often condensed versions of the main workout.
Chapter menus
X
You can play only the individual workout segments you want by picking them off a chapter menu (one at a time).
Level
X
Beginner: Just starting out, very overweight or haven't exercised in over six months.

Intermediate: Active in sports, dance or any regular exercise (2 to 3 times per week).

Advanced: Very active in sports or consistently work out four or more times per week.

Aerobics impact
X
Lower Impact: Both feet never leave the ground at the same time. This minimizes stress on your knees.

Higher Impact: Includes movements like jumps, hops and skips. Very high-impact is called plyometrics.

Mixed Impact: This alternates or combines the above styles.

Aerobics choreography
X
Basic: The easiest to follow. It ranges from simple walking-style marches to sports and athletic movements.

Complex: More intricate combinations and patterns. They're ideal for people who like to dance.

Moderate: More interesting than Basic, less dancy than Complex.

Toning emphasis
X
Upper body: Arms, chest and back.

Lower Body: Legs, thighs, hips and buttocks.

Abs: Abdominals (stomach), core and sometimes lower back.

Total body: Tones all three of the above muscle groups.

Floor aerobics & toning
X
Definition: Includes two workout activities. The aerobics segments are fast-paced standing movements like marching, dancing and jumping. These segments require no equipment. The toning sections are slow, controlled movements working against a resistance. These may include Pilates and weight training.

Benefits: The combination of both activities provides a balanced workout. The aerobics burns calories, strengthens your heart and increases stamina. The toning builds lean muscles, increases your metabolism and makes everyday activities easier.
