Time graph for Core Secrets Kit with Gunnar Peterson
Includes a 25" stability ball, a pump and three videos. It’s the most comprehensive — and innovative — ball workout ever. You’ll begin with “Fundamentals” — a 24-minute personal one-on-one instructional program. For each of the 10 basic exercises, you’ll learn proper technique as well as its specific benefits (e.g. “this works the deltoids, for those low-cut fashions”). Then you get two actual workouts: the intermediate-level “25 Minute Full Body Workout” and the inter/advan “Accelerated Core Training.” Both programs have faster-than-usual pacing with lots of movement variety (e.g. altering the angle of a repeated exercise so it works the muscles on a different plane). Gunnar is an experienced, skilled instructor; his cuing is detailed and his attitude is supportive. Filmed in his stylish Beverly Hills studio, the production and camerawork are excellent. As seen on TV, includes journal and fitness flash cards. DVD offers a “shuffle” feature that automatically varies the workout sequence. ©2003. DVD has: Programmable chapters, Region 1.

Sorry, Meant to Give My Review 5 Stars
Sorry, I entered my review before checking. I meant to give it 5 stars, not 1. - posted by Stacey on 6/19/2008
Loved it! The Last Reviewer is Right!
The reviews seem to be half positive and half negative. Everyone who wrote how much they liked this system is correct. The fundamentals video is really easy, but it is only meant to be instructional for beginners in order to inform users on the proper form, etc. This is a great set for beginners. But don't let that scare anybody else off. I'm an intermediate/advanced exersicer, and Gunner's videos are some of my very favorites. I've had these dvd's for 3 years now, and I'm still not tired of them. The titles are not misleading, but all the dvd's will definitely strengthen your core, so much so that I was able to help my husband resod the whole front yard that summer without one bit of back trouble. Gunner strengthens your core, both your back and abdominals using everyday movements, not just stale gym style weight lifting. Also, I have a bad knee, and I have never hurt my knee on any of his videos-I think because he doesn't overdo lunges and squats. Also, these videos use the stability ball which I have found to be the best piece of equipment I own-it protects your back and gives you a fuller range of motion on stretches and strengthening. Gunner is fun and funny. Advanced excersisers can benefit buy using heavier weights or more reps. I highly recommend this set. Once you get the stability ball with this set, you can purchase other stablility ball videos, and you won't regret it. Your workouts will be more fun and more diverse. Also, I've learned that shorter workouts like these are just as good as longer ones, and they seem just as effective. I haven't gotten bored with Gunner yet. - posted by Stacey on 6/19/2008
Believe what you want to believe
First off, the "Fundamentals" dvd is really not a workout, but an intro to the ball. The "25 min. workout" rocks. I am way too busy not to have this and "Give Me 20" around. The "Accelerated Core" is also a great workout. I have moved up to 5 lb weights and I always feel challenged by these workouts. I have noticed a complete change in my body and my posture. He works out all opposing muscles, which is great. For those that say these videos are not challeging are probably complete 7 day a week workout nuts. If you are a normal person with a normal schedule who gets to work out a couple times a week, these are perfect for you, and effective. Gunnar actually made me look forward to working out. Thank God!!! - posted by Lori on 7/1/2007

Boring
This workout was kinda fun at first, but it really didn't do anything for me. However, the "flash card notebook" that came with it has some great exercises. You can do the reps you need to feel you've had a good workout, and you can mix and match. - posted by Toast on 3/7/2006
Completely Unimpressed
I consider myself an intermediate exerciser and I run 3-4 miles for cardio. I had high hopes for this set (my first try with a stability ball) but found there is no challenge to this workout whatsoever. I finished up the so called advanced DVD and began thinking that a nite laying on the sofa would be just as good. Pass this one up, check out Fitball instead. - posted by Liz on 2/3/2006
Not worth it
I bought this series about a year ago hoping for a good toning excercise program and have only used it a few times. I found Gunnar to be boring and his cueing was off. Sometimes you can't look at the tv and he isn't counting or anything so you're trying to figure out if you are following at the right pace. I agree with others that his reps are too short and fast. The only DVD I liked was the ab assault and even that was too short. I'll stick with my FIRM and Cathe Friedrich DVD's (she works you out with cardio, free weights and barbells). Cathe is so intense and really works the muscles to fatigue which is what I want. Oh...and that girl who is on with Gunnar gets on my nerves. Every time the camera goes on her she makes faces like the workout is hard. Talk about acting. - posted by Laura on 1/24/2006
LOVE! LOVE! LOVE!
Thank you, Gunnar! I have the entire set (all 14 DVD's) and I love them! I love Gunnar's style, too. Unlike other instructors that stop and use someone else to show you the form (I hate that) he does all the excercises. And he doesn't count out every rep, which I also hate. At the beginning of the year I tried Kathy Smith's "Project: You", Billy Blank's "Boot Camp" and the Yoga Booty Ballet routines. I'll admit I got real bored with them all. Then I discovered Core Secrets, to each his own but since I have all the DVD's I can't wait for more to be released. For those who said it's too easy and they didn't break a sweat have you tried the cardio routines, they're great. I honestly find myself smiling and saying right out loud, "that was good!" There's enough of a variety to keep me very motivated. I have about 50 workout videos and I'm glad I found Core Secrets. I'm a "bride's maid in training" and I'm looking & feeling good! Keep it up, Gunnar!!! - posted by Ronelle on 12/10/2005
Defitnetly for the pear shaped
I have been lifting weights for five years. Nothing has slimmed my hips butt and thighs, like these workouts have even my husband noticed the physical change in my body and he doesen't notice anything at least on me so if your a pear shape like me you need to get these workouts. - posted by Delores on 11/30/2005
Core Secrets
This is definately for lightweights (ie beginners). I too did not even break a sweat. The introduction video is basically just the E Channel girl (forgot her name) posing. I suppose if you're a beginner, it's fine, however, you would think the accelerated portion would be better. It's not. - posted by Marian K. on 10/28/2005
Not for me!
To each is own. Some may enjoy Gunnar's style. I don't. I find the workouts boring and ineffective. - posted by Kristine on 8/31/2005

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
