Certified instructor description: Led by Gunnar Peterson, it includes two separate stability ball workouts. The “Bun Battle” video lifts and shapes your lower body while “Ab Assault” is totally focused on your abdominal muscles. For maximum effectiveness, both programs are non-stop and fast-paced (a very time-efficient technique that maximizes results). These videos include exercises learned in Gunnar’s base “Core Secrets” kit plus new ball moves specifically targeted on each individual muscle group (e.g. “Atlas squat” for the buns, “Penguin crunch” for the abs). Throughout, Gunnar shows his experience and skill; his cuing is detailed and his attitude is supportive. Filmed in his stylish Beverly Hills studio, the production and camerawork is excellent. Requires 2 to 5 lb. dumbbells. ©2003. DVD has: Region 1.

Core Secrets Target Toning Set

Ab Assualt Review
I'm 48 and intermediate/advanced to advanced, and I love this workout. In fact I love all of Gunner's workouts. He's different, and he has a fun and very motivating personality. If you want results from a short workout, this is for you. You can make the workout harder by adding more weight. But the best thing is the stability ball-Wow! It will add a fuller range of motion to your ab exercises when you are on top of the ball. You'll feel muscles there you didn't know you had. It won't be a waste buying a ball because I have found I use it more than any other equipment I have. Cathe Friedrich workouts, The Firm, any core strengthening videos, you name it. You'll use it-it is a multi purpose piece of equipment believe me. Another great thing about this workout is it is a great way to get strong abdominals while supporting your back with the ball. Crunches are not the same on the ball-they are better! Gunner's workouts, including this one, are so much fun, time flies. And I'll have to say, I haven't gotten tired of this workout yet, and I've used fairly regularly for 3 years. - posted by Stacey on 4/28/2009
Love the Bun Battle!
I got the Bun Battle about a year ago and even though I've gotten quite bored with it by now I keep at it, because I know this video gives me results! I really feel the work and looove how my butt and thighs look after just 2-3 sessions. Gunnar's voice can get a bit grating though, and I find the music to be a bit stressful. I'm usually a Pilates-girl, at intermediate/advanced level. I've read the other reviews and am curious to find out what the certified trainers mean about Gunnar's bad form? What does he do wrong? I don't want to make the same mistakes myself! Other than that, I highly recommend this. - posted by Jenny on 5/10/2008
Bun Battle Review
This set is definitely worth getting for a variety of reasons. 1)Bun Battle is probably different from any video you have because it uses a stablity ball throughout. Don't let that discourage you because there a jillion videos at Collage that uses one, and you'll love it. The ball gives you a different range of motion to challenge the muscles, and it supports your back during exercises. 2)These workouts are short, but I like that because they are so fun it goes by in a flash, yet it's effective. 3)If you're tired of endless squats and lunges for your buns, try this because Gunner does not do too many repetitions on Bun Battle. And he does like 5 or 6 different kinds of squats and lunges, not all at the same time. You never get bored, and I've never had a problem with my knees on the Buns video either. Gunner's variety and brevity really help with sensitive knees I think. 4)I think you'll like Gunner Peterson because he's funny, motivating, and he doesn't seem like a stiff well-rehearsed instructor. I agree with the first reviewer who said he's more like a coach, a cool coach that you like, not like a gym coach from school you used to dread. It's fun having a male instructor on a video for a change also. 5) And lastly, if production quality is important to you, Bun Battle and the whole set will make you happy. The lighting, the music sound quality and Gunner's voice sound quality and the set are excellent-real professional. Great choice of music too- it doesn't dominate the video, and it doesn't grow old. I've had Bun Battle since this video first came out, and I haven't gotten tired of it yet. Mix it in with some of your other workouts, and you'll see results. My only gripe would be I wish Gunner would do less stretching at the beginning of the video and more stretching at the end of the video. - posted by Stacey on 3/22/2008

I was disappointed
Many of the moves here are good ones, but I didn't feel as though the workout went far enough to be effective for me. Also, Gunnar's style really did not work for me. He reminded me of some of the more annoying gym teachers I had in high school. It could just be me, but this one did not make it. I liked the other exercisers, though. - posted by Janice on 2/10/2008
Nothing New
I am very disappointed with this video, there is nothing secret about the Core Secrets workouts, they are just basic core training that has been around for many years. Also I am an ACE and NFPT certified trainer and Gunnar Peterson's form was awful in this video on more then one occasion. - posted by Adam on 2/10/2008
The worst video
This guy has no personality, watch his horrible form. I was sucked into buying this and regretted spending my hard-earned money on this video. I can't believe he trains the stars. I am a personal trainer and I could see all the things he was doing wrong. - posted by Ali on 11/5/2007
Ab assualt-not as great
I just bought ab assualt, I was quiet suprised that it wasnt as great as i thought it would be. the moves are the same. plus the workout is only 20mins. however i have gunnar's other dvd's like the give me 20, full body challenge, and the acceralated workout. those are really good and you feel challenged but the ab assult isnt as great!! bummer :( - posted by devi on 9/14/2007
yes it works!!!
I have always had a "big belly" since i started doing core secrets I can see that I don't have a belly anymore!! It's great, the workouts are awesome. I like the full body challenge and the give me 20!! It works for me and I'm sure other people who try it will be suprised too. Gunnar rocks!! - posted by vani on 8/31/2007
I love ab assault
I have been doing the ab assault for several months now. It does get easy after awhile so I keep increasing the weights. It is a good, quick workout that I do about 5 times a week. It never gets boring and prevents excuses for not doing it since it is a short video. I usually skip the warm up since I do this after my elliptical. Definitely a keeper. - posted by Sarah on 8/4/2007

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
