Time graph for Crunch: Candlelight Yoga

Gentle moves selected to “release tension piece by piece, breath by breath.” The moves are all genuine yoga but Sara Ivanhoe’s focus is breathing, flexibility, looseness and relaxation, not achieving the perfect pose. It begins with a very gentle “warm-up” stretch and it ends with just-plain-relaxation. Don’t be confused by the title; the set isn’t dark — it’s light and airy with brightly glowing candles. Quiet instrumental music with some soothing nature sounds (e.g. gurgling water, soft rain). DVD includes a bonus 15-minute workout. ©2002. DVD has: Chapter menus.

Crunch: Candlelight Yoga

One Of The Better Yoga Practices
I love Crunch videos and have been practicing yoga for almost a year. Sara Ivanhoe leads one of the most serene practices I've ever tried. Many of the postures are beginner/intermediate with modifications for the inflexible by a background instructor named Natasha. The music is slightly new age but doesn't interfere with the practice. Sara Ivanhoe is very encouraging and knowledgeable about yoga. She talks a little too much for my liking, but the DVD includes a "Music Only" section or I can easily tune her out due to the relaxing workout. There is also a bonus 15-minute-long Energizer section that wakes you up and gets you ready to face the challenges of the day. I definitely recommend this video for anyone who would like to try yoga for the first time and anytime to unwind. :) - posted by Lindsey on 11/2/2009
Good DVD
I have done this DVD twice this week and really like it. I've been doing Ellen Barrett DVD's and this is a nice break to mix in as it's easier on the joints and just very relaxing. - posted by Chris on 3/5/2009
Incredibly relaxing
Let me preface... I do not do a lot of yoga. I do a lot of cardio and strength training. But I was looking for something to wind me down. I really love this DVD. I put on just the white 'christmas' lights in my living room when I do this and I really sink in. I find it incredibly relaxing before bed no matter what time it is. I've done it after a glass of wine! The restorative poses at the end are so enjoyable. The one thing I wish was different: I wish it was a just little bit shorter. 43 minutes seems like a bit too much before bed. But that might just be me. :) - posted by Erin on 11/22/2008
Love This Video
I bought this DVD when I was looking for a relaxing yoga routine to do post-pregnancy. I had never bought a Crunch tape before... and was pleasantly surprised. The instructor, Sara, was excellent... and the whole mood/feel of the video is wonderful. It is a wonderful way to end my day. - posted by Karla on 9/7/2007
Excellent
The day after I used this video for the first time my singing teacher commented on how my posture had improved and that I seemed so relaxed. I told him I had done this video the night before and I felt it had really made a difference in how I was feeling. - posted by Carol S. on 7/30/2007
relaxing yes, but also boring
The first time I did this video I found it very relaxing. However, the next time it felt boring--there is a little too much talk (slow and quiet) that serves as filler. Some of the stretches required warmed-up muscles(at least for me--I'm not flexible), and this video does nothing to get you warmed up. I give it a mixed review and will be returning it. - posted by Amber on 7/10/2007

Favorite Yoga DVD
I'm not really into yoga. I'm stiff as a board and wanted something that was relaxing, would increase my flexibility, not be to spiritual but still be true yoga. Sara has a very calm unintimidating way about her. Very relaxing after a hard day. Highly recommend for people like me. If you're super flexible and advanced at yoga this would probably not interest you - posted by jf on 1/6/2007
I feel at peace...
I love Candlelight Yoga. If I could (time constraints not a factor) I would pop this into the DVD player on a daily basis. During the fall & winter I tend to have a bout with the lungs and Candlelight enables me to focus on my breathing patterns. This is especially helpful in the evening when I have a difficult time sleeping. I highly recommend this workout. It's an A IMB. Red Wiz - posted by redwizard on 11/5/2006
Very relaxing
I already have a power yoga workout which is very challenging, but I was looking for something on those days when I come home from work just fried. This video is perfect for that. The instructor's voice is so soothing and I like that she reminds me that I work hard enough in every other part of my life--that this should be relaxing time for me! I love it!! - posted by Amy on 10/18/2006
Absolutely Wonderful!
This is a really lovely yoga stretch! The set is beautiful with all the candles, and the workout itself is so relaxing! The instructor is really good, too, and she helps you to relax during the poses and get a great stretch. She doesn't talk too much - you have plenty of time to be in the poses and just relax while listening to the music. By the way, the music on this DVD is the BEST I've heard on any yoga workout (and I have a lot!). I haven't tried the "Energizer" bonus workout, but I previewed it and it looks good too. I'm very glad I purchased this! - posted by Andrea on 10/15/2006

Reading a Time Graph
X
Each workout shows a time graph of the workout sequence, from beginning to end. For example, this workout starts with a 10-minute warm-up and ends with a 10-minute stretch. In between, you'll do aerobics, then toning, then a cooldown.

Segments that include both aerobics & toning
Some workouts combine aerobics and toning. If the aerobics and toning are done at the same time, you'll see a "blended" graph. If the aerobics and toning are done in short, alternating intervals, you'll see an "interval" graph.
